Work Header

The Dragon and the Cub: Year 0

Summary:

Yang had worked hard for this day. Years of putting up with Faunus racism, Qrow’s mysterious way of talking about her ‘parents’ and being rather lonely, she was ready to take the world by storm and find answers. But of course, fate got in her way again. This time in the form of a baby that was apparently her younger sister. Wait what?

Or:
Yang is 17 and Ruby is a baby, thus Yang has to become even more of a mom to Ruby then she is in canon.

Notes:

Second and hopefully last edit of chapter 1 so I can get done with chapter 2 at some point
I just did not like Yang Dawn so yeah

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Migration of the dragon!

Summary:

Beginning of the end. No wait too dramatic uh…
Oh who cares this shit is short as hell anyways 😭

Chapter Text

Patch: 6AM

A hand crashed down on the ringing alarm clock, breaking it to pieces. A soft yawn escaped the owner of the hand. Yang Xiao Long stretched as she got up from her bed. She spared the broken clock no glance as she moved to the bathroom, immediately turning the faucet on and washing her face with ice cold water.

As she dried her face with a towel, she took a look at herself in the mirror, huffing at how messy her hair was. Grabbing the brush on the shelf, she started slowly molding into its wavy appearance, finishing it up by sticking her cowlick out on top. When she stared into the mirror again, she smiled and began thinking.

She’d done it. She was going to Beacon. A fresh start from Patch. Not that the island was horrible, but it simply reminded her too much how her pare- Raven and Taiyang left her not long after she was born. Had it not been for her uncle Qrow taking care of her as much as he could and the help of Yue Xiao Long, her aunt and the closest thing to a mother she had, she wouldn’t be here.

As she stopped daydreaming, she was back in her room, stripping herself of her pyjamas, and neatly folding them and putting them in her large yellow and black duffel bag.Her yellow scaly dragon tail flicked and grabbed the luggage she’d be taking with her.

Leaving her room, the smell of food ran by her nose, causing her to forget any modesty she had and jump down the stairs.

"Ah Yang, I was wondering when you’d wake up!" A gentle voice ran out from the kitchen, causing the blonde to smile as she landed on the floor. As she entered the kitchen, purples eyes met cyan ones. There stood the most important person in her life (unfortunately Qrow isn’t around much due to that silly semblance of his). Yue was wearing simple gardener clothes alongside a straw hat. The woman was currently eating some ramen. Similarly to Yang, Yue was was a dragon Faunus, boasting a pair of white horns (the antler looking ones) instead of a tail.

Yang all but released the duffel bag from her tail and took a seat, immediately grabbing and biting down on a chicken leg. As she ate her food in bliss, she spoke with her mouth full.

"You didn’t have to make a full meal, I’m not gonna starve there." Yang’s lack of table manners never ceased to amaze Yue, who quickly slapped her spoon on Yang’s hand as she reached for the second chicken leg.

"Perhaps, but as I’ve told you, back in my time at Beacon, we only started getting full meals after we passed initiation." Violet said, drinking a bit of water. Seeing Yang about to speak, she quickly continued before the young blonde could, a smirk on her face. "And no, I still won’t tell you what it is."

Yang choked on her food as she received an answer to her unspoken question, glaring at the woman before quietly continuing to eat her food.

Soon both of them finished their food, Yue cleaned the dishes and utensils while Yang cleaned the table. Peeking at the clock once she was done, Yang smiled sadly, realising how fast time passed as it was already 8AM. She really needs to find a better way to do her hair.

Patch: 9AM, airport

"Remember to eat your veggies! And don’t forget to brush those teeth!" Yue ordered as she was hugging Yang, who was awkwardly hugging the woman back, her face red as they were in public.

"Yue, I’ll be fine. I’ve been getting ready for this for years." Yang said as the removed herself from the hug.

"Bah! You only got this far because of me young lady!" The elder dragon spat before frowning. "But truly, be careful Yang. I know some of your… "friends" are going to Beacon too."

Yang grimaced at Yue’s words, hating how true they were. Most of her friends only befriended her because of her being a rare Faunus. The only one who truly was friends with her wasn’t going to Beacon unfortunately, not that the two of them were always on the best of terms.

"I’ll be fine. I’m sure they’ll be… decent?" Yang chuckled quietly at the unconvinced glare she received. The dragon was thankfully saved by the calling of her airship and after a quick kiss on the cheek to her aunt, she ran off, duffel bag swinging around as it was held by her tail.

Now on her airship to Vale, sighing uncomfortably as her squished tail wriggled against the back of her seat before landing on her lap, Yang put her headphones on and some music, as she reminded herself why she chose Beacon.

Atlas Academy would probably kick her out once the racism got out of hand and she punched too many people. Not to mention Qrow wasn’t a fan of them at all, and the few times she spent time with him made her trust most of his judgment. Even if he was drunk half of the time. Shade was too far and she’d rather not spent the next four years in the desert, despite enjoying warm temperatures. And Haven… well that one WAS fine. But Beacon had some teachers who used to be students there. Teachers who possibly knew her deadbeat parents. And if none gave her answers or atleast potential reasons, well she’d just have to hunt them down herself.

She looked out the window, relaxing as Patch disappeared slowly from view. Yue truly was a great person, taking care of her when her brother all but abandoned her. She knew the woman saw her like a daughter, especially when she had suffered from miscarriage.

Yang made herself comfy in her seat, sighing as prepared herself to sleep for the rest of the way. She didn’t see any of her ‘friends’ yet, so it was a good idea to go early after all.

[Gonna kick their asses if they try to use me for popularity again…], she thought as she slowly drifted off to sleep.

Chapter Text

Location, Vale airport, 11:48AM

Yang let out a long tired sigh as the airship finally in Vale. It wouldn’t have taken so long but some kids caused a disturbance in the middle of the flight and the pilots were forced to land when they got inside the cockpit. But again, she was finally in Vale!

And she a lot of time to spare. Get used to the city a bit more, check out the places she hadn’t checked out yet, pray she doesn’t have an unlucky encounter with the Malachite twins. That was a fun night had it not been for the month of house arrest she received at the end.

As she descended the airships ramp, she caught sight of a sign being waved with her name on it. Her eyes narrowed in concern, no one she knew would be expecting her and this was mighty suspicious.

Approaching the sign, she saw a man holding it and a woman besides him. Both were wearing business suits and sunglasses, with the woman holding some sort of bundle in her arms.

‘Oh brothers, did I get stalked by some secret organisation and now they want to recruit me? Sounds like some cheesy movie scenario honestly.’ The blonde thought as she lowered her headphones to be around her neck as her tail curled on itself.

The man perked up as she approached, bowing his head forwards as the woman besides him copied. "I presume you are Yang Xiao Long?", he asked in a tone that told Yang he already knew she was who she was.

"Unfortunately, yes.", Yang answered, a tinge of venom in her voice that disappeared quickly, reminding herself she kept the name because of her aunt, not because of him. "Can I help you?"

The man nodded as a smile reached his lips. "Yes, you can. My name is Don Morton, I am part of the VNCC, «Vale’s National Children’s Care», and I believe we have someone for you." He said as he nodded towards the woman besides him, who stepped forwards and gently gave Yang the clothed bundle.

Yang raised an eyebrow as she took the bundle, her eyes widened as she looked down and saw a pair of silver eyes looking up at her, a tiny pair of black wolf ears with red tips at the ends twitching and the fluffiest black wolf tail with its own red tips wagging slowly from side to side.

The dragon Faunus’s eyes were widened as she mouth hung open, yet no words came out. She looked down at the baby Faunus, who gave a happy babble as she was snuggled in her bundle of a blanket. This had to be a joke right? Right?

Don spoke a moment later, snapping Yang out of her daze. "Her name is Ruby Rose, we found her and her mother in her home after we’d received multiple reports of yelling and concerns about domestic abuse. When we got there, we found her in her mother’s arms with no signs of the father. Her mother did not survive, as she appeared to have been poisoned to death. She was a huntress and we assume another rogue huntsman attempted to kill them both if the severed Hand we found says anything. DNA tests showed that her father is Taiyang Xiao Long and her mother Summer Rose. And since we are unable to find Mr. Xiao Long, we tracked you down, his daughter. We were originally going for your aunt but-"

The man was interrupted as Yang let out a snarl, baring her teeth, her eyes red . "That man is not my father. Hasn’t been in 17 years and won’t be now. Now, what the fuck are you implying?"

Don blinded for a second, suprised by the small outburst before coughing, deciding to avoid mentioning Taiyang again. He supposed the mention of the man had caused the young woman to overlook what he said. "Firstly, may I remind you that you are holding an infant and to avoid such language. Secondly, what I’m implying is that she is your half sister. Congratulations."

Yang looked at the man, then at Ruby, then at the woman and then at nothing. The gears spinned in her head as her face dawned with realisation.

"I HAVE A WHAT?"

Notes:

This only took so long because I was lazy lmao

Anyways, end notes from chapter one are still valid rn, Y’know, the Yang ship and friends and shit

Chapter 3: DECISIONS!

Chapter Text

Yang’s foot tapped anxiously against the ground as she sat on a bench in the local park, carefully holding Ruby in one hand while holding her scroll in the other, calling Qrow but for the third time being send to voicemail. Huffing, she cancelled the call before the drunk recording of Qrow’s voice finished its first word.

Putting her scroll down besides her, Yang let out an exasperated sigh as she looked down at Ruby, her eyes softening as the Wolf Faunus cooed at her. Don and his friend? Partner? Assistant? had given her as much info as they had on Ruby. Which really was only her age- being two months- and a document including her birthday, blood type and a few other things. She looked to the ground where her duffel bag laid, alongside a smaller bag packed with baby formula ingredients and some diapers, alongside a few other things such as toys. She wasn’t particularly excited about changing a baby’s diaper again, memories from when she volunteered at Patch’s kindergarten with her aunt re surfacing.

At the thought of Yue, the blonde looked back at her scroll. The only logical thing to do was to call her and have her pick up Ruby. But Yang couldn’t do that to her. The woman had given up so much just to take care of her and Yang didn’t want to doom her to another 17 years of raising another child that her brother abandoned. But with Qrow not answering his scroll, Yang truly was at a loss. She raised the baby to her face.

"What am I gonna do with you?  I can’t go to Beacon with my baby sister but I also can’t make you Yue’s problem. And I don’t want to send you to an orphanage or something, I’d be betraying everything I’ve been taught!"

Yang sighed as all she received in return was a gurgling sound as a bit of drool leaked from Ruby’s mouth.

For the next hour or so, Yang’s mind raced with ideas what to do, but it all came back to just handing Ruby to Yue, which was out of the question. She hadn’t even noticed a man sit besides her until she realised Ruby was curiously reaching towards the man’s mug.

"Curious one, isn’t she?", the man spoke, and looking up at him, she found him… strangely familiar if the glasses, hair, clothes and especially the cane in his other hand was anything to go by. It suddenly clicked in her head.

"You’re-"

"Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon academy. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you Miss Xiao Long."

The dragon’s lilac eyes widened in suprise.

"How do you-?"

"Know your name? I tend to keep track on how my former students do in their lives."

Yang scowled, partly at the man’s blitz fast answers and of his words. Ozpin smiled sadly at the scowl, setting his mug down, and out of Ruby’s reach’ as he raised his hand in a friendly way.

"I was talking about your aunt by the way. I am quite aware that you do not enjoy your parents being mentioned and thus I will do just that."

Yang opened her mouth but didn’t even get a question out as Ozpin answered it immediately.

"Your Uncle helps me from time to time and he’s had quite a few things to say about you. I made sure Yue also knew I was just a call away incase she ever needed support in raising you. Least to say Miss Xiao Long, I know almost everything about you. Now, what seems to be troubling you?"

Yang closed her mouth after her suprise was gone, looking back at Ruby. She was tempted to ask Ozpin about Taiyang and Raven, but decided otherwise.

"I… I found about an hour ago that Ruby here was my half-sister. Apparently my da- Taiyang couldn’t keep his dick in his pants and now she’s just like me. No father, no mother. I asked but the uh guy from the VNCC told me she had no living relatives left. I mean I do have my uncle and my aunt, but he’s not answering calls and isn’t exactly the best person to trust with a child, not like it’s his fault." Yang paused, rubbing one of Ruby’s ears as the baby Faunus cooed and reached for her fingers. "And my aunt… she’s a great person, I know that myself but… I don’t want her to have to raise another kid her brother left behind when she just finished raising me, Y’know? But I also know going to Beacon with a baby isn’t a good idea at all. I’m just… lost on what to do."

Ozpin nodded in understanding, eyeing the two sisters. He smiled at Yang’s willingness to keep the child. Bonded only by blood and yet they were already so close. ‘Oh Summer, your daughter is in capable hands.’, he thought to himself.

"While I cannot say your decision to not hand her to Yue is the best, I understand it is putting you at an impasse. Now, as someone who only wishes to see his students thrive, I believe I can help you. Within a few hours as you know, the airship’s to Beacon will arrive. With your agreement, I will be heading back and informing my staff of your… small problem and have proper accommodations ready for Miss Rose until you come to a decision."

Yang looked at the man in shock. Was he really-? Her expression when from shocked to a mix between happiness and the urge to tear up in joy.

"Y-You’d really do that? I- Yes, please. Thank you so much! You hear that Ruby? You’re coming with me to Beacon."

Ozpin smiled at the young woman’s excitement as she responded to Ruby’s baby talk. He grabbed his mug and stood up, beginning his way back to Beacon.

"We shall see each other again soon, Miss Xiao Long. I suggest you use these few hours to bond with your sister."

Once Ozpin was gone, Yang let out a long sigh of relief. It wasn’t perfect and she certainly hadn’t expected to meet the Headmaster personally, but it was a start. Perhaps she’ll keep Ruby around for a year before sending her to Yue, that way the older Faunus could atleast have a year long break. Now she just had to figure out how to deal with Ruby once aboard the airship. Oh well, she had a few hours for that.

Notes:

And Ozpin appears! I wouldn’t say I got him perfectly but what do you guys think?

It’s worth mentioning that the reason Yang is already so quickly attached to Ruby is because she isn’t in the ‘This is my daughter now’ phase. In other words she’s trying to be a sibling but is accidentally going down the mother route with her choices.

Anyways since it’s mentioned there’s still a few hours before the Beacon airships arrive, the next chapters will finally reveal our six other age’d up canon characters alongside my OC!
Last chance to guess who they are!
Speaking of, would you rather have 2-3 chapters with short parts about them or 7 chapters, one for each one?

Also I’m kinda proud I managed to write an almost 2K chapter on my phone. Once I get my own PC, I’ll hopefully be able to make them longer since my finger’s won’t hurt as much. I think?

Chapter 4: Atleast it’s not Atlas

Chapter Text

“But high leader-!”

”We’ve been over this mi sobrina. I need you in Beacon.”

”I’d be better off at Vacuo!”

”The Vacuo Branch has things under control. Sending you to that desert is not required. And your mother would have my head if I sent you to either Mistral or Atlas. Vale is the second best kingdom for Faunus, and I expect you to be able to convince some promising Beacon Faunus to join our cause.”

”But that’s not why you’re sending me there, is it?”

”…I fear things are getting out of control with the Vale Branch. But I trust none else then you to keep an eye on Adam.”

”He wouldn’t-“

”I haven’t accused him of anything. I simply fear he isn’t being… truthful about everything. Now, remember your first priority once you get there.”

”Confirm that a Dragon Faunus is indeed going to Beacon. I will not fail to have them join us tià.”

”I know you won’t Blake.”

Blake sighed as she remembered the conversation she had with her aunt. As much as she didn’t like being away from the main fight, this was important. Dragon Faunus were extremely rare and one would not only boost morale, but also bring hope to the few back on Menagerie who worry about the ones outside of their safe heaven.

A part of her didn’t take Sienna seriously about her worries about Adam going too far. Yes, he was violent, but that anger was only directed towards the unforgivable humans. He had taught her many things and was Sienna’s main pupil. Blake would confirm that the Vale Branch was fine and that it was just the nerves getting to her aunt.

But she still loathed the mission. She had to hide her White Fang armband and use a fake name to avoid the dots being connected to who she is. Back when she worked in HQ, gathering information, spying and sometimes helping on SDC raids she wore it proudly. Atleast her ears were proudly raised for anyone to see.

For now, she’ll do what she always does. Vale was still new territory since she’d only been on the outside of it when she was allowed at all. So getting to know the city, every sewer entry point, every alleyway, the location of former members and the hidden White Fang safehouses was optimal. The rest was irrelevant.

“I HAVE A WHAT?!”

The Cat Faunus flinched at the loud scream that probably was heard throughout the place. Whoever that was probably just had their life turned upside down. She shook her head and grabbed her scroll, one of the few the Fang had managed to get and that she couldn’t afford to lose. Adam wanted to meet up to discuss things.

‘Probably when I have to check in per day and for emergency escapes if things go south. Sienna really is worried over nothing. He’s still the same Adam I met. Now, let’s get this over with, only a few hours left.’

Notes:

And we meet Blake! Who didn’t leave the Withe Fang! And said White Fang is a bit of a mess as you can see. They’re not gonna ‘kill all humans!!!’ Atleast most of them. They do hate humans but they’re not gonna mindlessly kill them. Blake isn’t evil or anything. She’s… whoops I said too much already!
Anyways, got any ideas for a fake name for our favourite cat? Preferably one that still has one B in it
Also the Spanish words are Vacuan. I just randomly googled and in Fanon Spanish = Vacuan so uh yeah. Just a funny lil thing :3
Feel free to ask any questions about her family

Chapter 5: The bird, the winter and the poison

Summary:

Vesper is temporarily deleted with Mercury and any mention of him has been changed

Chapter Text

Robyn Hill

Her hand reached for her scarf, lowering it a bit from her neck. She knew that there would be a significant difference of temperature between Mantle and Vale, but this was still unexpected.

The blonde took in a deep breath, her lungs almost hurting after having gotten used to the cold air of Atlas. Walking off the airship, Robyn took in her surroundings, her violet eyes widening at how beautiful everything looked. And this was only the airport!

”If only Mantle had half of this…” she sadly thought before making her way to the exit. Step one, familiarise herself with the city she’d spend the next four years in. Step two, get to Beacon.

She had bailed on the chance to go to Atlas, mostly just to inconvenience James Ironwood. The mere idea that the man had expected her to go to his school was amusing. Maybe if he had been doing more for Mantle she’d have accepted.

Shaking her head, she made sure her quiver was attached and the arrow’s stayed in, before  gliding a finger trough the tip of her sword-bow, Riftweaver. Fiona had put a ton of work into the mechashift weapon and Robyn would make sure she returned to Mantle to pay her friends back for all their help. For Mantle.

Winter Schnee

Winter let out a sigh as the sun almost shone directly into her eyes as she exited the armored airship and put foot on Vale’s Atleasian base. Well, outpost was the actual word, but specifics weren’t important.

She closed her eyes once she had found a suitable bench to sit on. In a matter of hours, the airship would bring her to Beacon, giving her plenty of time to catch up with the Atlesian military’s ‘homework’ she’d been given. Frankly, she wasn’t happy to be so far away from Atlas, especially not with the knowledge her baby sister, barely two, would grow up under the watch of her drunk mother and neglectful father. Hopefully Klein wouldn’t mind doing what he’d done for Winter herself.

But despite her complaints, this was still of the outmost importance. The general trusted her with this mission, and she would carry it out. She owed him after all, for getting her out of that mansion. Even if it costed her her fathers ‘respect’.

”This transfer won’t interfere with your military status, I’ve confirmed with Ozpin that you’ll have time to learn about our military. But I truly need you in Beacon to keep watch on Branwen’s child. Everyone considers me paranoid, but you understand why Winter. Do not fail. Oh, and do have fun while you’re there. After all, Beacon doesn’t propose to have their students join the military.”

His words still ran trough her head. Winter opened her eyes and pulled her scroll from her pocket, her slate-blue eyes eyeing the picture of Yang ‘Xiao Long’. Whatever the reason for Raven Branwen’s spawn to suddenly appear after years of unconfirmed sights, Winter would find out.

Mercury Black

"And only come back when you’re actually eighteen!”

Mercury grunted as he was kicked- literally kicked- out of the bar by the Kangaroo Faunus who owned it. Well, he tried but he’s gonna have to wait a year before being allowed to drink. Qrow did tell him the legal age of drinking was 18 in Vale so there’s that.

"Oh well, could’ve been worse." His gray eyes shone brightly as he ran a hand trough his gray hair. The light sound of servos was heard as he walked. He pulled a bottle of beer he managed to snag from his jacket, smirking until he saw it was an empty one. Guess the old guy was used to getting bottles stolen.

Mercury threw the bottle into the nearest trash can andpulled out an old picture from his pocket, showing a younger him and a young dragon Faunus alongside an older dragon Faunus and an older man.

"Can’t wait to see your reaction when you find me at Beacon and not at Atlas Yangarang."

He put the picture away, thinking up all the possible reactions Yang could have. Probably gonna stumble all over her words.

"I mean, how did she believe that I actually was going to that place?" His movement suddenly blocked, drawing a sigh from the young man as he hit the locked leg with his hand. "Right, the legs."

Notes:

Decided to go for three chapters, a Blake focused one and two for the 6 others
No specific reason but consider this that it’s very likely that you’ll see Bumbleby as a ship

Anyways welcome Robyn, Winter and Mercury (Vester is gone for now)

Anyways what do ya’ll think of Robyn’s new weapon, and the reveal that just like Blake, Winter is after Yang? Guess how Yang and Mercury get along here!

New: Vesper’s dead (not) but now our boy Mercury is Yang’s bestie/mortal enemy >:)

Also can you tell I dislike Atlas?

Chapter 6: The champion, the Fashionista and Monke boi

Summary:

Sun gets to be silly in the title
That’s it
That’s uh that’s the summary lmao
Coco and Pyrrha exist I guess (I love them I swear)

Notes:

Chapter Text

Pyrrha Nikos

Pyrrha let out a sigh of relief as she got off the boat she had taken from Mistral to Vale. Her manager insisted she’d take a private airship or a luxurious cruise even after the champion had insisted that there was no need. Truthfully she had wanted to put her foot down but it felt wrong to do so to the person who’d helped build her career. Thankfully she’d managed to avoid conversation on the ship with the rich folk by pretending to be exhausted. Which wasn’t a full lie.

Between ending partnerships with several companies whose product turned out to not be as great as they advertised it to be, Pyrrha just wanted to get to know Vale. The people admiring her from a distance made things awkward but not as awkward as those who simply approached her and talked to her as if she knew them personally. She’d hoped Vale would make her more unknown compared to Mistral and Atlas, but it was wrong to believe that would happen.

Atleast she was by herself. No manager, no CEO trying to get her to sponsorship their product. Just her and the opportunity to go to Vale. To Beacon Academy. An almost fresh start. Hopefully, she’d meet a few people who didn’t care for her fame. Even if just one. One person who’d want to know Pyrrha Nikos as Pyrrha Nikos, and not the Pride of Mistral.

Coco Adel

Coco groaned as she threw the clipboard in her hands behind her, which was caught by one of the workers in the back, as she glared at her father.

"You realise this is basically a threat right?" Her tone was full of venom as her dark brown eyes narrowed at the man infront of her who sighed at his daughters aggressive nature.

"Coco, listen-"

"No, YOU listen. Adel Industries might be one of the greatest companies in Vale, but the moment Jacques Schnee brings his business to Vale in more then just dust deliveries, we’re gonna go down hard on anything dust and weapons related, and who knows, maybe he’ll just open better clothes stores then us and buy the And the only way to avoid that is to partner up with him? Yet here you are, in your chair doing NOTHING about it.” The fashionista’s hands clenched into fists as she tapped her foot against the floor.

"Jacques is… a difficult person. I can’t deny his demands without him acting on it immediately. I do not wish myself to associate myself with the SDC but I have to do it carefully. One wrong move and we will enter a company wat we want to avoid."

Coco opened her mouth, preparing another ramble but was shut up by her father raising his hand.

"We are not doing this Coco. Now go enjoy the few hours you have left before Beacon. I have business to attend while you go play hero."

Letting out a disbelieving scoff, Coco pushed herself off her chair, lowered her sunglasses over her eyes and kicked the chair trough the buildings window and down into the city. The hereiss then promptly stomped out of the room, her father shaking her head while the workers had concerned looks on their faces.

"Go play hero this. I have business that. Dust, how does that man make the things I enjoy sound like children’s things." Coco raised an eyebrow as she eye’d the chair stuck in the tree outside the company’s entrance, distracting her from her anger.

"…maybe some time at Crissy’s shop will cool me down."

Sun Wukong

Sun crunched down on the Apple he had stolen- after accidentally running into the seller and helping them pick up their merchandise of course- watching two cops ask around if they saw the “filthy Faunus” around.

Of course, the monkey Faunus hadn’t been fully suprised. He had been warned by his Clan and teacher that Vale wasn’t as uncaring of race as Vacuo was. While Vacuoans stuck together regardless if human or Faunus to survive the harsh desert, the other kingdoms were the same. It was just his luck that the authorities that figured out he was a stowaway on the ship he came by were incredibly racist.

Luckily they were also really stupid so he got away easy. Now he’s just need to go to Beacon, and once he was an official student he’d have an easier time. Hopefully. His teacher had told him to not break the law and while he had failed at that already, it was just an Apple. Not his fault he only had so much lien to spare! Which was fine, he was thankful he even got any. Starr would slap him if she found out he already got into trouble.

Well, he’ll just have to roll with it. But first, order of business, get a charger for his scroll. Seriously, he could NOT afford to throw it away like the last few he used to own.

Notes:

And we meet the final three. And more Atlas hate as you can see hah!

Anyways gonna ask but do yall think Winter, like Robyn, should have a different weapon? Her one sword becoming two swords is cool but also not really special? Im not saying adding a gun but I’m open to suggestions!

Which speaking off, should Robyn keep her truth/lie semblance?
And what kind of semblance would ya’ll like to see Vester have. I haven’t decided yet and id love to see other peoples ideas!

Chapter 7: Arrival at Beacon!

Summary:

Yang has a not so fun arrival at Beacon. Turns out people REALLY do have to stare at the baby she brought with her. Luckily (or unluckily) there’s atleast one somewhat friendly face.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Yang resisted the urge to lash out as she heard a pair of girls whisper behind her. Whether it was because of her tail or Ruby, she wasn’t sure, but gods was it annoying. The past half hour was awful. Everything was going well, soon to be students were talking to eachother and no one had even noticed her little sister. Unfortunately, the wolf Faunus had let out the most adorable sneeze ever when she woke up from the noise.

This of course got everyone’s attention and it came with mixed reactions. There were those who gushed over the baby, those who talked behind her back on how she was some sort of bimbo who fucked up badly, she really wanted to punch those guys. There were the racists with their wild animal comments which she promptly ignored.

Thankfully she was saved by everyone’s focus shifting to someone else. Pyrrha something? Yang would’ve cared more but she was desperate to get away from people, especially after noticing some of her ‘friends’. She was SO not ready to deal with that now.

Now she sat far in the back, near the window. Ruby was surprisingly… docile. She seemed more focused on people than on the noise around her. Well, that was a good she supposed. Meant she wouldn’t have to worry about crying for now.

Although she couldn’t shake off the feeling of being observed. Yet everytime she looked around, she saw no one looking at her. She doubted the cat Faunus in the corner was the culprit with how focused she was in her book, and the white haired woman on the other side definitely was looking in her direction but not at her directly. She didn’t have time to dwell on it though as a holographic image of a woman suddenly appeared.

The dragon Faunus recognised the woman. Yue had told her about her. Glynda Goodwitch, strict but caring. Supposedly a miracle that Yue survived four years with the blonde Huntress.

Yang tuned out whatever was being said, focusing on letting Ruby play with her finger. The baby babbled excitedly as she held on onto the blonde’s finger, trying to pull it into her mouth.

Yang smiled at Ruby’s antics, resisting the cub’s pull. Her tail pulled back from the seat besides her as someone almost sat on it. She immediately turned her head to yell at whoever did it but her words drowned in her throat as familiar gray eyes looked at her.

"Sup." Mercury’s voice was filled with the most smugness that was humanly possible and Yang desired to strangle her adoptive cousin.

The dragon Faunus spoke, her voice full of suprise. "Mercury?! What are you doing here?! I thought you were going to Atlas!" She flinched when she heard Ruby’s suprised yelp, immediately comforting the child.

"I lied. You should’ve realised that. I mean it’s not like Atlas is that great. Besides you’re the only person I trust with my legs. Also who’s the mutt?" The boy chuckled when his cousin glared at him and gave a half assed apology in return. "No but really, who is she."

"Long story short, she’s my half-sister and my dad did the same thing to her he did to me. No, Yue nor Qrow know about this because I’m figuring things out. Yes, she’s staying at Beacon with me- us. And no you can’t feed her dog food." Yang said as she gazed at Mercury who shrugged and put his hands in his pockets as the airship began to land.

"I wasn’t even going to say that Yangarang. But for the record, you’re making a stupid decision."

"Duly noted, that’s why you’re going to be helping me with her. She’s your cousin too now."

"Fuck you."

"Language."

Notes:

BOOM, the three cousins! Yes, Qrow adopted Mercury. No, you won’t get the lore, not yet atleast. Yes, Blake and Winter are stalkers. And no, Mercury won’t be making racist jokes. Only sometimes and they’re mostly gonna be jokes to Yang (or assholes, like Adam)

Chapter Text

Yang sighed as she ran her hand trough her hair for what must’ve been the fifth time in two minutes.

She had just wanted to snap at everyone around her that was constantly eyeing and whispering about Ruby. Had it not been for said baby and Mercury distracting her with his annoying self, she’d probably have thrown someone out a window.

The speech that Ozpin had given had been… interesting but she mostly busy keeping Ruby quiet and again, avoid throwing someone out a window. It didn’t help that she still felt a few stares here and there, much less the disapproving one from Miss Goodwitch. That was gonna be so awkward.

Currently, she was mostly just glad to feed Ruby her baby formula (thanks VNCC people!). Mercury was unfortunately further away, mostly because neither of them were sure if saying they were cousins, adopted or otherwise, would make the whispers worse or not.

Hopefully she gets on a team with him, that’ll be one less person to worry about making assumptions.

"Why did I think this was a good idea again?"

All she received in response was Ruby burping after finishing her bottle.

Blake carefully eye’d her target behind her book as she fed the wolf Faunus in her arms. Was this really the one who would bring hope to the Faunus? A not even 18 year old who already had a baby? No. There had to be more to it. She’ll guarantee that she ends up on the girls team and figure out why she had a baby.

She would also have to figure who that gray haired boy is. He seems close to the dragon, perhaps friends? But not siblings. Yet they act like it. Maybe he was the reason the girl had a kid? Did he guilt trip her into keeping the child? No, he was no Wolf Faunus, she could tell. That’s fine, she’ll figure it out.

On the other hand, there were a few faces she wasn’t as glad to see. One of the Winchesters children, whichever it was. Worse, Winter Schnee was here. Even if the news state that she isn’t the SDC Heiress anymore, it could be a simple trick to confuse the Withe Fang. She might have to get on the Schnee’s team first, coordinate with the Vale branch to get rid of her and then focus on the Dragon Faunus.

Some other, better faces were here too. A couple Faunus, none that recognised unfortunately. She could recruit them too. The most interesting one is the Monkey Faunus who didn’t seem to care about the Winchester. Very interesting.

There were also Mistral’s Champion and one of Vale’s most known Fashionista. The Adel’s were a good supporter of Faunus rights and Pyrrha Nikos had broken up several deal’s, wether it be cereal with too much sugar or a deal that would force her to speak against the Faunus.

Deciding she analysed enough, she blew out her candle, but not before smirking as Winchester was being chewed out by one Robyn Hill for grabbing the Monkey Faunus’s tail.

Notes:

A small Yang and decent Blake chapter, its definitely guaranteed now that Blake will be mama cat to Ruby :)

Decided to add a Winchester, but not sure wether or not it’s gonna be Cardin
I could do that this is Cardin Junior and that canon Cardin is Cardin Junior Junior

The other main 6 make small cameos, how do ya like that :3

Also, should the Emerald Forest thing be the relics like in canon or something different and new?

Notes:

This is one of many reasons I haven’t update the Raven idea thing.
Hopefully it’s decent enough.
Next chapter will include our favourite Rose!
By the way, Yang’s story here has her older than most characters. By the time we reach the RWBY timeline, she’ll be much older than most characters.

Feel free to suggest which other characters get to be aged up and who our Sunny little dragon will be shipped with, as I have no idea right now!

Decided to replace Violet with another OC, who is sibling to Taiyang. I did not like Violet and decided Qrow should get a friend whose sibling also left out of nowhere!
