Work Text:
Seven years have passed since the defeat of Gyro, and a lot has happened in that time. After Gon and Pitou went back to Whale Island & Killua and Alluka went back to the Zoldyck
family mansion, the Succession Contest and the Dark Continent expedition were in full swing. The princes of the Kakin Empire dueled and fell left and right and the Phantom Troupe mafia war tears apart the group, leaving the three most likely candidates to inherit the throne remaining: First Prince Benjamin, Fourth Prince Tserriednich, and Ninth Prince Halkenburg. Halkenburg was the first to fall, and along with it the hope to dismantle the monarchy and make Kakin a more democratic nation.
An epic battle between Benjamin and Tserriednich ensues, but ultimately, due to his godlike Nen expertise, Tserriednich comes out on top, and all seems lost until Kurapika steps up to stop the supposed new Kakin monarch from taking over the world. Kurapika and Tserriednich fight, with Kurapika using the Judgement Chain to kill Tserriednich, and, because of the limitations set, Kurapika himself dies as well. The Black Whale 1 ship is sinking, with no clear winner in sight. A vote is held amongst the survivors of the sunken ship, and by an unanimous decision, Kacho is declared the new monarch.
After Kacho’s crowning, she reveals that the Nen Beast emulating her is actually her reincarnated form, having plans to make Kakin a constitutional monarchy. The survivors, led by Beyond Netero, Ging, Leorio, Cheadle, and Kacho arrive on the Dark Continent and meet Don Freecss. After some time exploring the Dark Continent, they return to the Mortal Realm to find the world at war, with Gon, Killua, and Pitou fighting Gyro, much to the shock of the entire group. A climactic battle for the ages then ensues: Gon, Killua, Pitou, Ging, and Don vs Gyro. Then, in an emotional finale, Ging sacrifices himself to defeat Gyro, the two of them dying together. A bittersweet victory had been achieved, and that day, July 20th, would be remembered as GT Day, the letters “GT” standing for Grand Triumph. This now brings us to the present day, with Gon and Killua, now adults, meeting each other again after 7 long years of peace.
Meanwhile, in the background, Leorio and Kacho got together, with Leorio inheriting the wealth of the Kakin royal family. It was a fitting end for him; from the beginning, he
pursued becoming a Hunter to obtain money, luxurious cars, quality alcohol, and beautiful women, and now, with the queen of Kakin at his side, all of his dreams had come true. On the other hand, Killua became a professional assassin. However, Gon had the roughest 7 years of the three. He had lost an arm permanently during the war with Gyro, and struggled to live with one remaining arm, taking up using a bokken like how the late Kurapika once did. Meanwhile, Pitou was still clinging to Gon’s side after all these years. As a Magical Beast, she had perpetual youth, and would live to be 900 years old.
“Say, Killua…after all this time together, we never fought each other. How about we go, just like old times?”, says Gon. “Alright, but don’t expect me to go easy on you”, says Killua. After this exchange, Pitou watches with an undying sparkle in her eyes as Gon and Killua duke it out in the wastelands they proposed to meet at, their Nen having developed even further over the years. She had no idea who was going to win. The two men were now equal in power, but Pitou hoped with all her heart that Gon would win. However, to her disappointment, the fight ends in a draw. Gon and Killua hug it out before parting ways once more. The same applied as what Gon said so many years
ago: “No matter how far apart we are, we’ll always be friends”.
Gon then returned to Whale Island with Pitou after his fight with Killua, for good this time. He finally decides to settle down with his childhood friend, Noko, after a hard decision between her and Pitou. He knew that with Pitou, she would outlive him, so ultimately he chose Noko so that he wouldn’t have to watch everyone he knew and loved die. Then, several years later, they have a daughter named Ginny.
Ginny was fishing at the lake her father had fished at when he was her age, catching the Lord of the Lake just like her father. She then brought the old fish to her father, now a
middle-aged man, having a confident demeanor. “Ah, so you did catch that old fish”, says Gon. “So I assume you want to go take the Hunter Exam?”.
“Nope, I just wanted to prove myself”, says Ginny with a smile. “I wanna stay here with you, dad”. Gon felt a sense of relief wash over him as he listened to his daughter’s words, glad to know that the cycle had been broken. The father and daughter embrace, with Gon weeping soft tears of relief as his wife, Pitou, Don, and his aunt Mito (now Ginny’s grandmother) gathered together in a group hug as the sun began to set in the distance.
