The Spirit of a Hero: Reincarnation

Chapter Text

Once Chihiro was at Hawks' agency, she was escorted into a place where she can change into her hero costume, a simple yellow crop top, green pants with a red belt, and a black and copper bird mask. She was then led to a room where she saw…

“Tokoyami-kun!” Chihiro said in surprise when she saw her fellow bird mutant. His hero costume primarily consisted of a black robe.

“Sanada-san,” Tokoyami answered back. “It seems like we both had the same calling.”

“Yeah, isn't it amazing?” Chihiro said with shining eyes. “The number three hero, teaching us for a whole week.”

“Indeed,” nodded Tokoyami. Chihiro wasn’t sure, but he seemed to be eyeing her wings. “Although I do wonder…”

“What is it?” questioned Chihiro.

“It’s nothing, forgive me,” Tokoyami bowed.

The door opened, revealing the man himself.

Both Chihiro and Tokoyami tensed. Despite their excitement, they had the mind to be professional.

“So you’re here already,” Hawks acknowledged. “Come on, let’s go out on patrol.”

Chihiro’s jaw almost dropped. They just got here, and already they’re gonna get some action? This is gonna be fun!

If there’s one thing that can be said about Hawks, it’s that he’s really fast and efficient. The only one possibly better than him was Endeavor… but the less said about him, the better.

Chihiro and Tokoyami– no, Hawkgirl and Tsukuyomi, alongside Hawks’ other sidekicks, were barely catching up to him, and once they do, Hawks had already stopped the threat, forcing them to focus on cleanup.

It was frustrating for Hawkgirl. She took on this internship wanting to beat up some bad guys. She could tell that Tsukuyomi wasn't happy too. But even so, he kept chasing after Hawks.

“He's very spirited,” she heard one of the sidekicks said. Hawkgirl’s eyes narrowed, and then she smiled.

She’s not as zelous as Monoma, but if there’s one thing she could take from him, it’s that she’s not gonna lose to Class 1-A either. Hawkgirl followed after Hawks as well.

It was after yet another clean up when a new face showed himself. Well, kinda, since he’s wearing a mask.

“Aww, I missed the action again?” he lamented. He was a boy around Hawkgirl and Tsukuyomi’s age. He wore an orange bird mask, a jumpsuit, and artificial wings connected to a jetpack.

‘Seriously kid, beat it,” one of Hawks’ sidekick chided. “Even we can’t catch up to him.”

“Who’s this?” questioned Hawkgirl. The boy turned to her and smiled.

“I’m Hori Keitaro, Hawks’ future sidekick!” he beamed. He then pointed at Hawkgirl. “You’re Sanada Chihiro, correct?”

Hawkgirl was surprised. “You know me?”

“How could I not? You were at the Sports Festival after all.” He turned to Tsukuyomi. “You too, I suppose.”

“Um, thank you?” Tsukuyomi answered, unsure of himself.

‘Kid listen, you…” the sidekick chimed in before and idea came to him. “You know what? Whatever. You can tag along with us. It’s not like it would change anything.”

“...Huh?” Clearly, Hori didn’t expect this victory, but in the end, he just shrugged and accepted it.

And so Hawks’ sidekicks took off once more. Hawkgirl and Hori were flying together.

“So, if you’re trying to get Hawks’ attention this way, I take it that you’re a vigilante?” inquired Hawkgirl.

Hori looked away. “I wish I can call myself that. All I’ve done is show up after Hawks finishes.” His face morphed into a smirk. “I guess I should expect nothing less from the number two hero!”

Hawkgirl couldn’t help but smile at Hori’s enthusiasm. “We better catch up, then!”

“Right, Sanada-san!”

“Call me Hawkgirl!”

Hori’s eyes widened in realization. “Hawkgirl? Then I guess that makes me… Hawkman!”

“Are you sure we can find that thing here?”

“If my source is correct. It’s worth checking out.”

“I think I see something down there!”

“You’re right, can it be?”

And there it was. A grey skinned creature with an exposed brain, locked inside some kind of capsule.

One of the people in the group, a masked man, looked around and saw a lever. He pulled it.

The capsule opened.

The creature opened its eyes.

The group backed away as the creature exited the capsule. And then it spoke.

“Where… Grundy…?”
