Chapter 4: Date (Headphones POV) Pt 4

Summary:

This is from Headphones' Point of View.

Chapter Text

Date (Headphones POV)

A few days after we had that pizza, we began to get closer. I decided to take her out, wondering if we'd enjoy going out for dinner or ice cream or something together. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to make it special, because we've hung out and hung out since we were 4. Albeit, I did want to treat her. She's been a lot more sad lately, and she doesn't like going out and eating nearly as much as she used to. One day I went to her room, stepping through her clutter, and gently touched her face to wake her up from a nap.

"...yeah?" She groggily shuffled, groaning slightly from presumed tiredness.

"Wanna go out in a bit, Bobbles?"

"Uhh… as long as it's just me and you. I need to talk about Monday."

I nodded, "Just us. Wanna go to that breakfast place you love?"

I saw her eyes open, which was surprising considering her door was wide open in case Specs or Goggles saw. "I'd love that."

"Get ready, I'll be ready in 30."

I smiled, leaning in to kiss her, and then went back to my room.

Once we got to the breakfast place and sat down, I saw her carefully scan everything on the menu, which isn't normal for this place because she always orders the same thing. I did too, so I wasn't paying attention to the menu.

"Are you trying something new?" I asked.

She looked embarrassed, and hid her face with the menu, she lied, "uh… no, just trying to find the price."

"Honey, I'm paying. Don't worry about that." I tried to look approachable to her, but the waiter came over just as we were talking. She continued to hide her face until the waiter took our menus.

"Sorry about that…" she sheepishly said, sitting orderly at the table.

I nodded, smiling, but looked at her arms. They looked so frail, but I didn't comment on it. My hands moved towards hers, and we held hands at the table.

"It's okay, I get if you get embarrassed. I know you haven't been feeling the best…" I moved one hand and stroked her cheek slightly, seeing her eyes water slightly. I almost cried seeing her like this, but I knew that if I helped her she'd get better.

We got our breakfast, and we both enjoyed it. She ate relatively quickly, and we talked as I savored my food.

"I'm glad you decided on this place," she said, "haven't been here in forever."

"You wanted to talk about Monday, right?" I asked.

"Yeah," she nervously added, "that pizza was probably the first thing I've enjoyed eating in years."

I was confused, and I felt like a bad person for not knowing that she'd been sick like this.

"I'm not sick though, Headphones. I've just been… depressed. That's the best word I can think of. And, all I thought of and wanted was you. And, when you were around, which was a lot, I felt too sick to eat because I wanted to… I wanted to look good for you," She said quietly, "getting skinny and all."

I began to reason it out, especially with all the agent stuff. Everything also probably got to her nerves, making her jumpy and nervous all around.

"Oh honey… you don't ever have to worry about that stuff with me. You've always been beautiful."

"I feel more in control around you with an empty stomach," she said, "remember the throw-up in the bathroom the other week?"

I nodded, growing concerned.

"I also feel sick trying to hold in my… my emotions. They overtook my ability to act normal and be happy in public. I missed you, because that was the first time in years we were away from each other for more than a day."

Oh shit. I didn't realize how much of an impact that would have.

"Yeah. I missed you too, but I didn't know it would be that bad. Did Specs and Goggles stress you out?"

She nodded, "Mhm. Specs got mad when he saw my room. He's never gotten mad like that. I wonder if he had a bad day with his boyfriend."

"Hey, I can talk to him. It's okay." I reassuringly squeezed her frail hands.

"It's… okay? He seemed so mad that he didn't wanna be friends with me anymore. He seemed more like a dad than a friend."

"Yes, darling. It's okay, he didn't mean to sound that way. I promise you." I leaned in closer, looking at her face a bit.

"I love you," she whispered back to me, and I whispered back "I love you too".
