Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales

Summary:

It's been far too long since Hyperlaser saw Katana.

He's been too busy with Blackrock to afford a hangover, but now that he's finally free, he decided to meet up with his friend for a familiar night out drinking. He's starting to think that might have been a bad idea.

Notes:

hiii !!!! this is my first time ever posting to ao3 after writing fanfiction for like 5 years. this (first 10k words) was written in an autism fueled 24hrs so they might be ooc, apologies. any major mistakes please lmk !

somewhat headcanon heavy ! primary ones are that inphernals have hair and tails, because its fun. they also blush the colour of their horns.
also, hyperlaser can see without his helmet in this. not well, he's likely legally blind without it. also i gave hyper a prosthetic leg, its not specified but i intended it to be his right leg, and his other leg has a brace.

please heed the tags warnings ! hyperlaser has intrusive/suicidal thoughts so please be safe and dont read this if it may upset you at all !!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Hyperlaser was pacing his apartment in anticipation, watching the clock on his wall tick slowly as he waited. He was finally seeing Katana again, finally relieved of the constant missions and hits Blackrock was practically burying him under. The two hadn't met up for drinks in a while now, Hyperlaser being far too busy to get drunk with the demon and have to nurse a hangover the next day. They were meeting up at their usual bar at 6, and the mercenary eagerly watched his clock tick, second after second.

He pulled his phone out for just a moment, clicking it on to check his clock wasn't slow. It flashed on, the time matching what his clock read; 4:42pm. His background taunted him, a photo he'd taken of Katana, the first time the demon had met his darling Princess. She'd curiously come to check out her owner's new guest, and Hyperlaser had managed to snap a photo the moment the creature pressed her tiny nose to Katana's face. A light blush coated Hyperlaser's face as he stared at the Katana in the photo, stopped in his tracks until his phone switched off. His helmeted reflection taunted him almost, visor blank and dull compared to the flustered face behind it. He sighed, glancing at the clock again. 4:43.

Fuck it , he thought, I’m leaving now. He'd not planned to leave for at least another 15 minutes, but he couldn't wait any longer. His long tail swished in anticipation as he walked toward his door, grabbing his keys off his counter. The jingling alerted Princess, who'd been cleaning herself on the couch nearby. She prrt'd at Hyperlaser, trotting her way over, long black fur bouncing with her tiny steps. The mercenary waited patiently for her, watching as she jumped up to the counter next to him.

“I'm going out to see Katana, okay sweetie? I'll be back tonight, I won't be gone forever.” He spoke softly to her, his voice raising at least two pitches. She meowed loudly at him, aggressively butting the hand he'd outstretched for her. “I love you my pretty Princess, I'll see you later. Bye baby, I'll be home tonight. You've got plenty of food, dont ruin my couch.” He cooed, gently rubbing behind her ears as she leaned deeply into his touch. She meowed at him again, and leaned in closer. Hyperlaser did the same, and chuckled at the thump of her hitting her head against his helmet. He gave her one last pet, before grabbing his wallet from beside her, opening his door and walking outside.

He clicked it shut behind him, turning and starting down the hallway toward the elevator at the end. He hummed to himself absentmindedly, swinging his keys to the tune as he walked. He made his way into the elevator, down to the basement of the building where his car was parked. A thought in the back of his mind told him he probably shouldn't drive if he was going to be drinking, though it was quickly replaced by a louder thought. You should drive yourself home, maybe you'll hit a tree and finally rid the world of the burden you are. Hyperlaser shook his head, trying to get the idea to leave his brain as if shaking it out of his skull would work. God I need that drink, the mercenary thought to himself. The thoughts in the back of his head had gotten louder recently, and he wanted to drown them out, even if just for a night.

He tried to ignore the violent buzzing thoughts that echoed through his head as the elevator finally reached the basement. The doors slid open, and Hyperlaser all but ran to his car, opening the vehicle with a press of his keys. He climbed in, immediately locking the door behind him and checking the backseat. Nobody here to ambush and kill me, I suppose , he thought aimlessly. A voice in the back of his head wished there had been. He groaned as he reached across to his passenger seat, pulling open the glove box with more force than necessary. The objects inside clattered as it opened, settling after barely a moment. Hyperlaser ruffled through the drawer, quickly finding what he was looking for.

It was a small packet of cigarettes, one he claimed he kept to offer to other inphernals who asked. At least, that's what he told himself. He was determined not to get himself addicted, and he wasn't, if you asked him. As he drove out of his apartment building though, he lit himself a cigarette, rolling his window down and resting his hand in the empty space. He flipped open the visor on his helmet, bringing the cigarette to his face almost guiltily. It's for the stress, Hyperlaser told himself, even if it didn't really help the thoughts in the back of his head that told him to ram into every car he passed on his way. He pushed the thoughts into the deepest corners of his brain, lighting another cigarette without even realising what he was doing.

Forty minutes after leaving his apartment, he pulled into a parking lot just outside the bar. He snuffed his cigarette in the ashtray hidden in the door, and pulled his visor down with a sigh. He sat in his car for a moment, just breathing. He glanced at the clock in the car, noting it was barely 5:30. Katana wouldn't be at the bar for at least 25 minutes; he wasn't like Hyperlaser, so anxious about being late he would turn up sometimes obnoxiously early. The demon would probably be right on time as usual, so Hyperlaser figured he had time for another cigarette. Fucking hell Hyper, he thought, you don't need another smoke, you've already had two. He groaned, eyeing the packet sitting on his passenger seat. It wouldn't hurt though, would it? He could finish it before Katana arrived, and hopefully he wouldn't notice the smell of the tobacco on the mercenary.

Hyperlaser had barely finished convincing himself before he was reaching for the packet, pulling one out. He pulled open his glove box, shoving the cigarettes into the back and slamming it shut. No more tonight , he decided. He opened the door and stepped out of his car, patting himself down; keys, phone, wallet. He slammed the door shut, locking it shut with his keys before walking a ways away. A balcony sat nearby, overlooking the ocean, and Hyperlaser picked that as his smoke spot. He flicked his visor up a little, barely enough room for the cigarette. He lit it with a lighter he kept in his pocket, bringing it to his scarred mouth with a sigh. God, he hoped he didn't smell of cigarette smoke when Katana arrived.

~~

Hyperlaser had been staring out at the setting sun after he finished his smoke, watching as the multicoloured sky darkened with every minute. He vehemently ignored the ever loud voices telling him to jump off, that he wouldn't be missed and Katana would be glad he was gone. He'd been watching the sunset for a while, realising it was likely close to six; Katana would be arriving soon. The mercenary whipped around, feeling his tail hit the concrete balcony heading toward the bar, and his car. He knew he definitely reeked of cigarette smoke, and Katana hated the smell. Hyperlaser knew he had a bottle of deodorant stashed in his car, and he speed-walked over to quickly spray himself down.

As he reached his car though, he saw Katana distantly round the corner, expectantly looking around for his friend. Even though he had a mask on, Hyperlaser could sense the smile on the demon's face as he made his way to the mercenary. Katana waved at him, and he gave a quick wave back. Shit, shit, shit, fuck , he cursed, quickly opening his car and reaching in. He leaned over, ripping open the glove box once more, and pulling out the bottle of deodorant. Hyperlaser quickly sprayed himself down, stashing the bottle away again before quickly pulling himself out of the car. He stood up, shutting the door and locking it again, holding back a yelp of surprise when he noticed Katana had arrived next to his car.

“Hyperlaser! It is good to see you, friend!” The demon greeted him with a smile evident in his voice, something Hyperlaser loved to hear. He smiled in return, although Katana couldn't see.

“It's good to see you too, Katana. I’ve missed spending time with you.” Hyperlaser responded, worried in the back of his mind that the swordsman would smell that he'd been smoking. The two began to walk in step, as they always did, toward the bar.

“I've missed it too, my friend. Although I wonder, are you alright? You dove into your car with much urgency..” Katana asked, trailing off as he looked toward the shorter demon. Fuck, Hyperlaser thought, scrambling for an excuse.

“I uh- forgot my wallet in my car. That's all.” He finally answered after far too long, sweat threatening to bead on his hairline. He could feel Katana's stare bore into his eyes- even though both had their eyes covered. He held his stare for an almost uncomfortable time, before looking away with a sigh.

“If you say so, Hyperlaser. You know you can tell me anything, right? We are friends, that is what I'm here for.” The mercenary could tell Katana didn't believe him one bit. He groaned mentally, hitting himself for the shitty excuse. His tail whacked against his real leg aggressively, beating himself up for the lie.

“Yeah, I know. Thank you Katana.” The thanks was genuine at least. The two entered the bar finally, waving to the familiar bouncer as the demon let them in without a word. The two looked around, spying their usual booth thankfully free. It sat in a corner, close to the edge of the bar and secluded from the busiest part of the restaurant. Katana seemed to almost light up, grasping Hyperlasers much smaller hands in his and dragging the shorter demon along to their spot. Hyperlaser ignored the way his face flushed with the touch. The two sat down on comfortable, worn leather seats with content sighs. They sat in silence for a minute, music distantly blaring on the other side of the bar.

“Would you like to order, or would you like me to?” Katana broke their gentle silence, catching the mercenaries' attention. He thought over it for a moment, clicking his tongue in thought. They both knew each other's order by heart, so either could go.

“Would you mind?” Hyperlaser asked almost cautiously, looking over at the demon.

“No, I don't mind. Would you like any food with your drink?” Katana began to stand up, sliding his way out of the booth. Hyperlaser shook his head.

“No thank you, I ate on the way here.” The lie slid off his tongue with ease, practiced and and perfected after too many nights spent drinking on an empty stomach.

Katana gave a small nod, leaving with his wallet in hand. Hyperlaser sunk into his seat slightly, sighing lightly. He didn't realise how much he missed these nights with Katana, even if often he couldn't quite remember them well in the days after. The demon's comforting presence helped bury those thoughts digging their claws into his mind. He turned his head slightly, watching as Katana spoke with the bartender. He noticed absentmindedly that it was their usual- an inphernal he once learned was named Knife. He watched as they nodded, punching a few buttons into the till in front of them, taking the bux Katana offered. After handing him the change, they took a small receipt, handed it to the kitchen behind them and then turned to make their drinks.

Hyperlaser turned away as Katana turned to face the demon, suddenly finding the menu very interesting. He studied the menu like he didn't know it like the back of his hand, a faint blush creeping its way onto his hidden face. As he waited, he lost himself to his thoughts. He couldn't wait for Katana to return- whenever they drank, the demon always pushed his mask to one side, so he could access his mouth to drink. The way it sat meant Hyperlaser could see part of Katana's face, a gorgeous sight he had only seen a few times in full. In the back of his mind he felt his face grow hotter, and heard his long tail hitting the leather seat repeatedly, giving his excitement away.

He was dragged out of his thoughts by Katana placing his drink in front of him. Hyperlaser looked up suddenly, surprised but glad to see his friend. Katana placed his own drink on the table, before sliding back into his seat. He noticed at the same time Hyperlaser did that his shark-like tail was still wagging like a puppy, hitting the seat repeatedly. Katana cocked his head, looking at it before up at the mercenary. The question was unspoken, but obvious.

“Ah I was… just thinking. Nothing interesting, though.” Hyperlaser told him, refusing to elaborate. He could see Katana about to ask him to, so he quickly interrupted the demon.

“How about we share a toast? To… finally getting to go out drinking together again?” He asked, raising his drink- an alcoholic version of a popular soft drink he enjoyed. Katana froze for a moment, before smiling behind his mask and raising his own drink. It was a fancy cocktail he enjoyed, always a contrast to his bulky, stoic figure.

“If you insist, Hyperlaser. To finally going out drinking together again.” The two glasses clinked together, before both removed their facial coverings. Katana slid his mask to the side of his face- much to Hyperlasers enjoyment- and Hyperlaser moved his visor up his face. He just prayed his face wasn't a vibrant shade of blue anymore, before taking a drink. Katana noticed the mercenary had lifted his visor higher than usual- it sat just below his eyes, instead of just above his lips as it usually did. The demon made no comment, enjoying the view of Hyperlaser's face silently.

The pair sat in silence, simply enjoying each other's company, sipping their drinks. Hyperlaser had finished his, now sat staring into his glass, lost in thought. He wasn't quite tipsy yet, but he knew he would be soon- sometimes he was thankful he was a bit of a lightweight. Katana was still going on his, swapping between watching the other patrons of the bar, and staring at the other inphernal sitting across from him. Not long after Hyperlaser had finished his drink, the bartender arrived with a plate of food, and another drink in hand. They placed the plate in front of Katana, and swapped Hyperlaser's empty glass for the full one.

“I didn't order another..?” Hyperlaser wondered aloud, tilting his head in a way that made Katana blush. The bartender grinned a toothy smile, hushing the mercenary with a flick of their wrist.

“That one's on the house, a gift if you will. We haven't seen our two favourite regulars in a while, and we wanted to welcome you two back. Enjoy!” They began to walk away when Hyperlaser stood, reaching for them but not quite touching.

“Knife, I insist on paying.” He told them, beginning to pull his wallet open.

“Nonsense Hyperlaser! I insist on the free drink. Enjoy it!” They flashed a perfected customer service grin, laced with a genuineness not often seen from those in the business. They skipped away before he could say anything else, and after a beat of hesitation, Hyperlaser sat back down with a sigh.

“I'm surprised you tried to refuse, Hyperlaser. I know you enjoy those drinks.” Katana commented, smiling slightly as he watched the demon flush blue at his words.

“Well I-” He paused, unsure why he did it himself. “Enough about that. What food did you get yourself?” Hyperlaser was blushing a bit more now, embarrassed with himself for a reason he couldn't place. Katana hummed, barely audible in the busying bar.

“I got my usual, the Katsu curry. You know I enjoy their take on it.” Katana smiled as he spoke, picking up the chopsticks placed gently beside his bowl.

“Plus, I know you enjoy it too.” Hyperlaser nearly spat out his drink. His barely visible cheeks flushed an even deeper blue beneath his visor. He tried to casually place his drink down as he swallowed heavier than he meant to.

“I already told you, I ate on my way here. You don't need to share your dinner with me, Katana.” He subtly snuck a hand across the chair to wrap around his tail, forcing it to sit still and stop hitting the leather like a puppy given a treat. Katana had picked up his chopsticks, picking a serve up for himself.

“Don’t fret so much, Hyperlaser. It's simply to share in case you're still a little hungry.” Katana smiled, the corner of it visible behind his adjusted mask. Hyperlaser mumbled a thank you, his blush a deep blue on his scarred cheeks. He hid his face behind his glass as he took another drink, eyeing Katana as the taller demon ate almost gracefully.

They sat for a while as Katana ate, Hyperlaser only taking a singular mouthful of the curry. His face had been dark with a blush as Katana fed him- Hyperlaser hadn't a clue how to use chopsticks, and the swordsman refused to let him use standard cutlery. He'd sat back after the fact, looking down to hide his warm face, hand placed firmly on the end of his tail. Sometimes he felt it had a mind of its own, from the way it would give away his emotions no matter how hard he willed the shark-like tail to still. Even with his gloved hand placed over the tail, the tip whipped excitedly against the leather seats, thankfully too quiet for Katana to hear.

The night passed slowly as the two chatted about all the things that had happened since they had met last. Hyperlaser was 4 drinks deep by now, face flushed with a drunken hue as he giggled over just about anything. Katana was barely halfway through his second, though the slight blush on his face had nothing to do with the alcohol. He was midway through telling a story about Shuriken, and the mess that often followed the demon in Katana's stories when they were interrupted. A short demon had made their way over, movements clumsy as a long tail dragged behind them.

“Heyyyy, sorry to interrupt your little date,” They slurred, the two older demon's both flushing with embarrassment. “Do either of you have a cig? Bartender won't lemme have another until I get some air and sober up a bit..” They asked, cocking their head- nearly losing their balance- as their tail swished with a mix of sadness and annoyance. Behind his helmet, Hyperlaser perked up as he listened. He'd been dying for a cigarette, but Katana would never have let him go out on his own just for one.

“Yeah, I have some. I'll walk you outside and get you one from my car.” Hyperlaser stood as he spoke, shuffling out from the booth concentrated on acting as sober as possible. He stood next to the short demon looking at the unsure face Katana was giving him.

“If you insist, Hyperlaser. Make sure you come back quickly, I wish to finish my story.” It was mostly true, but the subtle ask for Hyperlaser not to have one of his own laced the air with what almost felt like tension. The mercenary only nodded, grabbing his keys and phone off the table and pulling his visor shut. He waved to Katana before leading away the drunken demon, nearly stumbling as he turned back.

The pair exited the bar, Hyperlaser only briefly pausing to make a ‘ cigarette break’ comment to the bouncer. The bulky demon nodded, smiling lightly before returning back to the cold glare they were giving the night air. Hyperlaser led the drunk toward his car, clicking it open with his keys, and opening his passenger door. He opened the glove box, shuffling around inside looking for the tiny packet of cigarettes. He found it, pulled out two- sorry, Katana- and put it away as quickly as he’d found it. He stood up and closed the door, locking it shut and turning to the demon who stood on the path nearby, rocking back and forth on their feet.

Hyperlaser directed them to where he'd stood before, seating them at a chair near to the edge of the balcony, where he leaned off the railing. He'd lit their cigarettes, breathing a sigh of relief as he took his first draw. They sat in relative silence for a while, the only noise being passing cars and the distant music of the bar. Hyperlaser lost himself in thought, thinking about Katana. He'd missed these nights with the swordsman, the way they'd chat about whatever comforting his disturbingly active mind. He was thinking quite hard, apparently, blue tinted face lost in concentration, tail swaying with affection. He didn't hear the inphernal he'd been with approach his side until they spoke.

“Sorry to interrupt your little date, Mr helmet man.” They slurred, cigarette gripped loosely in their claws as they turned to lean against the balcony, facing the bar. Hyperlaser jumped, nearly dropping his own cigarette as his face flushed a darker shade. He drew a breath of the smoke, holding it in for a moment before blowing it into the chilly night air.

“It's quite alright, no need to apologise. It wasn't a date anyway, we're just friends.” He managed to say, tail swaying a little sadder. He leaned his weight onto his prosthetic leg with a shuffle as the other demon looked at him with a drunken face of what was almost confusion.

“You ain’t on a date? I thought you musta been, your friend seemed pretty adamant about you not having a ciggy with me. Though since you are, maybe it shoulda been obvious you ain't.” They rambled obliviously, unaware of the way Hyperlasers heart clenched at their words. He had lied to Katana about not having a cigarette- sure, he'd not said anything explicitly, but they both know what he meant. He drew another breath of his cigarette, blowing away the smoke before turning and dropping it on the concrete floor. He put it out with his boot, noticing as the other demon did the same, awkwardly missing the first few times. The pair walked back inside, waving to the bouncer before going their separate ways. Hyperlaser tried to quell his burning face and beating heart as he sat back down with Katana, the other greeting him with a wave.

“You took quite a while out there, Hyperlaser. Did you have one of your own?” He queried, cocking his head in a way that made Hyperlaser blush.

“Ah, n-no. I simply stayed with them to ensure their safe return, is all.” The lie was stuttered out, unconvincing but Katana knew he wasn't getting any more out of the other. He gave Hyperlaser a discontented stare which he knew the other saw, before sighing and accepting the answer. He continued on with the story he'd been telling, watching with a small smile as Hyperlaser lifted his visor again, just as high as it had been.

Their night continued smoothly- as smoothly as it could, at least. They didn't have any other interruptions from other inphernals at least, lost in each other as they spoke. Katana had lost count of how much Hyperlaser had drunk, but knew it was starting to become a lot. The mercenary had swapped to beers- they tasted awful if you asked him, only good once you were drunk and wouldn't remember the taste. Katana had stopped drinking, satisfied with water. The hours had ticked by without a hitch, the pair only moving once as Hyperlaser demanded Katana come sing a song with him. The swordsman couldn't remember the name anymore, but it was a cheesy duet he had been surprised Hyperlaser knew every word to.

And if Katana had been lost in the moment, staring with a blush at the way the usually reserved demon was proudly singing to a crowd loudly cheering him on, Hyperlaser didn't notice.

The time had hit around 1am now, Hyperlaser's words slurred more obviously and his movements clumsy. Katana gave him an unsure look as the mercenary signalled for another drink. He'd become quite good at acting more sober than he was so they'd continue to serve him, much to Katana's concern. The bartender reminded the pair that the last call would be in thirty minutes, before walking off with a smile. Hyperlaser seemed almost concerned, drinking his beer with a half hidden frown. Katana noticed, leaning over slightly with a worried frown.

“Hyperlaser, maybe we should get going soon. I believe youve had plenty to drink, and the later we stay, the later a ride home will cost-” “No!” The demon was interrupted by Hyperlaser's shout, taken aback. He'd pushed himself from where he sat, aquatic tail flicking with half hidden anger, gloved hands slammed against the table. The two sat in silence for a beat, Katana staring up at the other demon's face, eyes barely visible. He seemed… scared, eyes wide with worry as he breathed heavily, his arms shaking slightly. Another beat passed, and Hyperlaser realised what he'd done and quickly sat down, face flushed blue with embarrassment.

“My apologies, Katana. I simply… don't wish to end our night so soon. I've missed our nights together dearly, and want to spend as much time together as we can. I’m unsure as to when we'll see each other again and I wish to cherish our time together for some time longer.” The mercenary slurred as he rambled, fidgeting with his hands as he looked in his lap, embarrassment lacing his words. A moment passed before Katana spoke, a worried smile replacing his frown.

“I missed you too, Hyperlaser. I suppose we can stay a while longer, if you insist.” A small blush crossed his face as Hyperlaser looked back up at him, smiling back. He breathed a moment longer, before picking his drink up, taking a swig and beginning a story he'd probably already told Katana that night.

Last call came and went, with Hyperlaser making Katana order a drink which he later stole off the swordsman. They chatted until the bouncer told them the bar had closed, and ushered them to the exit. The pair were the last to leave, quickly paying their tab and leaving with a wave to the bartender. They stepped outside, cool night air nipping their still exposed faces as they stood outside. They stood together for a moment, before Katana motioned to Hyperlaser for him to walk, leading the drunk to his car. The demon stumbled over his own legs, almost dragging his prosthetic along. Long hair hung from his hair, blocking his already blurred vision, long since having fallen out of its braid.

“Thanks for tonight Katana. I enjoyed our time together.” Hyperlaser slurred, turning to look at the taller demon with a drunken grin. His cheeks were flushed with drunkenness, smile slightly lopsided in a way that made Katana's heart flutter.

“Of course, friend. I enjoyed it too… I hope it's not too long until we see each other again.” Katana smiled back, blushing at the giggle the mercenary let out.

“Of course we'll see each other soon, I'll deny jobs if it means I see you sooner.” Hyperlasers face flushed a deeper colour subconsciously, his grin widening as the pair reached his car.

“Just make sure you can afford rent and food still, Hyperlaser. I enjoy seeing you, but I enjoy it when you aren't missing meals just to see me.” The memory of a previous night they spent together, Hyperlaser throwing up aggressively in a toilet. He'd barely eaten in the days leading up to their night together, barely having the bux. Katana had stood behind the shorter demon, holding his helmet in hand and rubbing his back comfortingly. He'd made the mercenary promise to eat properly, especially before drinking. Hyperlaser chuckled, sighing almost lovingly as he leaned against his car and stared at the taller demon.

“I’ll be seeing you then. If I’m home any later, Princess will make sure I know she's displeased.” He began to fish his keys out of his pocket, surprised when Katana grabbed his arm to stop him.

“You're not driving yourself home, Hyperlaser. You've had far too much to drink.” He stated, eyes narrowing slightly behind his mask. Hyperlaser looked up at the demon, glare barely visible behind his half open visor. His tail began to sway in an almost frustrated fashion as he spoke.

“No, I'm driving. Uber is too expensive, I've done it before anyway. I'll be fine,” He whispered one last word, “unfortunately.” Katana heard him, too close for his comment to go unheard. He frowned, concerned, staring at Hyperlaser with worried eyes hidden by a mask. They breathed together a moment, the mercenary breathing heavily as he swayed drunkenly.

“Hyperlaser. I wasn't asking you. I don't wish for you to bring harm to others, especially not yourself.” Katana said softly, placing a gentle hand on Hyperlaser's shoulder. Seemingly, that was a mistake.

“I'll be fine. ” He growled, ripping his hand away from where Katana still had his around the mercenary's wrist. “Hopefully I will bring harm to myself. Then everyone will be better off without me around! You especially, I know you want me gone and just won't say it to my face.” His tail was flicking around angrily now, his face contorted into a scowl. Katana took a step back, hands raised to show he meant no harm.

“Hyperlaser, I don't want you gone, and I know many who believe the same. I promise, I want you to stay around. I want you to stay with me.” Katana half mumbled the last part, taking a large, clawed hand and moving his mask out of the way. Hyperlaser's face softened with a blush for a moment before he shook it off, taking his keys out of his pocket.

“Don’t lie to me, Katana! I know you don't mean that. Nobody fucking means it! Nobody wants me fuckin’ around. Nobody!” He was nearly yelling now, unlocking his car and quickly stepping inside, slamming the door shut. He quickly locked it, glaring at Katana before he put the keys in the ignition, starting the car. Katana knocked on the window, staring pleadingly through the glass at Hyperlaser. The mercenary rolled it down an inch, pulling his visor down. Though Katana still barely glimpsed the tear that rolled down his cheek.

“Please, just drive safely Hyperlaser. I only wish for you to be safe.” He could feel the glare Hyperlaser was giving him, even with the visor in the way. The shorter demon gave a barely audible growl, mumbling a ‘ maybe’ before leaning over to his glove box, pulling out the packet of cigarettes and pulling one out. He lit one as he began to back out of the parking space, stopping as he was about to drive away as Katana quickly walked over.

“Please, call me if you need anything. I care, I promise Hyperlaser.” His words were gentle, caring, and his face was laced with genuine worry. Hyperlaser sighed quietly, before giving a small nod. He lifted his visor, placing the cigarette in his mouth as he drove off. Katana watched as he drove away, drunkenly and terrifyingly. Katana just about threw up, he was so nervous. Had he actually been drinking, he's sure he would have.

Hyperlaser had loud music blaring, trying desperately to drown out his thoughts as he drove. They told him to ram into every car he passed, every tree he drove by. Hit that accelerator and ram yourself into a fucking light pole, you know he wont care. He tried to argue, trying to tell himself that Katana would care. No he doesn't. You yelled at him, growled at him. He wants you fucking dead. He sighed as a tear rolled down his face, visor mostly down so he could see through the tears and drunken blur. Another cigarette sat in his hand, clenched so tightly it looked like it was about to snap. His other hand gripped his steering wheel deathly tight, shaking so hard he wasn't driving straight. He pressed harder on the accelerator.

He wanted to blame the alcohol, or the thoughts that corrupted his head and tried to get him to take them down with him. He knew he couldn't, that it was all his fault. He's the moron who blew up at the one person who maybe cared because he wanted Hyperlaser to just be safe. Katana's desperate plea for him to call an uber, to be safe, stuck in his head. The sadness etched into his scarred face that Hyperlaser adored broke his heart every time he thought more about it. He gripped the wheel tighter as more tears fell down his face, taking a long draw of the cigarette. He pressed harder on the accelerator.

Just end it already. The way you treated him? All he wants from you is your body mangled and broken beyond repair. Hyperlaser let out a choked sob, shaking as he drove, wind pricking his exposed skin as it raced past. Snow began to drift lightly from the dark sky, as if it wasn't already difficult to see. His already bad vision, the drunken blur that coated everything he saw, the tears welled in his eyes and now snow? Hyperlaser was pretty sure the Swords must want him dead. Maybe they're the voices in my head , he thought to himself, chuckling sadly. He was driving on a long, open stretch of road, barely in Blackrock territory, snow piled on the sides from earlier in the day.

Just crash already. Maybe Katana won't be so disappointed if he thinks you slipped because of the ice. Or maybe he'll be more disappointed. You'll just have to find out. A frustrated growl escaped Hyperlaser, choked out between sobs as he flicked the butt of his cigarette out the window. He put his hand back on the wheel, gripping it tightly though it didn't help the shaky driving. He pressed his foot harder once more on the accelerator, feeling the car speed up and the wind rush by faster. The tears were practically streaming down his face, and he could barely see the front of his car.

Fucking finally. Make it brutal, Hyperlaser. The thoughts in the back of his head growled with pleasure, and he let out one final sob of pain.

And took his foot off the accelerator.

And took his foot off the accelerator.

His car began to slow down, and he turned off the road into the snow pile nearby. The soft snow split as he drove into it, splattering over the sides of his car. He sat there, grip ever tight, shaking as he breathed heavily. Hyperlaser dropped his head against the wheel, letting out a cry as he shook. He ripped his helmet off his head, throwing it onto his passenger seat, crushing his cigarette packet unknowingly. His body racked with painful sobs as he wailed, shuddering with every breath he drew in. The chilly air wrapped around him, crushing him in a strangely comforting way as he sat crying.

He sat there for a while, sobbing into his steering wheel as the thoughts in the back of his head screamed at him to finish the job. With bleary, tired eyes, he reached for his phone. It flashed onto his background, Katana's adoring face mocking him. He glimpsed the time- 2:36am- and unlocked it. His hands shook as he struggled to navigate the phone, finding his messages app. He blinked away tears as it opened, clicking the first profile in his recents.

Katana.

~~~~~~
Katana had barely stepped inside his house, having taken his mask off and was in the middle of taking his shoes off when his phone rang loudly in the silence. He groaned a little- who on earth was calling him at this hour? He froze as he saw the contact flash on his phone- Hyperlaser. He quickly answered it, bringing it to his ear as it connected.
“Hyperlaser! Are you alright? Why are you calling?” He asked immediately, worry lacing his tone. A sob echoed through the phone, choked and painful and heartbreaking.
I'm sorry Katana.” Hyperlaser managed to choke out. “ I'm so sorry for yelling at you. I hope you don't hate me.” Katana could hear the sniffles between his words, his heart breaking even more.
“Hyperlaser… of course I don't hate you. I never could.” Hyperlaser let out a cry on the other side of the line, and Katana felt like he was about to cry himself.
Fuck, I'm sorry Katana. I’m sorry. Could you…” he trailed off, his words still slurring from the alcohol. “ Could you come and get me?” Katana didn't know his heart could break even more. Hyperlaser sounded… tired, broken. His voice cracked slightly as he asked, laced with a sadness Katana had hoped he'd never hear from the mercenary.
“Of course I can. I'll fetch Vine Staff, Shuriken and Slingshot. We'll come get you, I promise.” Katana said, tears pricking at his eyes as Hyperlaser let out another heartbreaking sob.
I'm sorry to bother you, and to make you bother those three. Tell them I'm sorry, please.” Hyperlaser was almost whispering now, his voice becoming hoarse with the sobbing. Katana told him he would, quickly walking to the spare room of his small house. He knew the three would be there, as they said they wanted to wait for him to return from his night with Hyperlaser. They were piled on the bed in a huddle, a movie long finished on the TV across the room.
“Vine Staff, Shuriken, Slingshot! Wake up, please.” Katana shook the trio awake, the three stirring with different levels of urgency. Shuriken woke nearly immediately, looking at Katana with concern; Vine Staff woke up a little slower, but bolted awake when she saw the swordsman's face; Slingshot barely woke up, only stirring and murmuring a ‘ the fuck do you want’ . Vine Staff punched him awake, the catlike demon sitting up and glaring at her before catching Katana's face. Hyperlaser was still quietly sobbing on the phone, though not audible to the trio. The three stared at him expectantly, and only once they were alert did Katana speak.
“We need to go and pick Hyperlaser up. He attempted to drive himself home after our night together, but has since stopped and asked if we could go and collect him. Let us go.” Katana didn't let the three say no- he knew they wouldn't anyway, so he began walking toward the exit. They followed behind him quickly, grabbing phones as they trailed behind the tall demon.
“We're on our way, Hyperlaser. We're coming to get you.” Katana said into his phone, listening as Hyperlaser let out another loud sob, audible to the three demons behind him. They all gave each other worried looks, speeding their paces to pass Katana.
Okay.” Hyperlaser's voice cracked over the phone, a small cry following. “ Thank you Katana. ” A single tear rolled down the demon's face as he heard Hyperlaser's voice, broken, coarse and pained.
I love you. ” A mumbled follow up Katana nearly missed. He stopped in his tracks for a moment- it was just the alcohol speaking, surely. It had to be, Hyperlaser would never feel the same way Katana felt. Yet still…
“I love you too, Hyperlaser.”
They were silent on the call for a minute, just existing together like that had been earlier that night. Katana reached the trio outside, who were all waiting in Vine Staff’s car. The passenger door was propped open for Katana, and he quickly climbed in, slamming the door behind him. Vine Staff gave him a side-eye before starting her car, beginning to pull onto the road toward Crossroads.
“Can you send me your location, Hyperlaser?” A beat passed after his question, and he worried the mercenary had fallen asleep until there was a mumbled response.
Yeah, ok. Can you put me on speaker really quickly?” Hyperlaser asked, sniffling a bit still. Katana made an affirmative noise, hitting the speakerphone button as he saw a message from Hyperlaser, with his location. Vine Staff softly greeted the demon, indicating he was now on speaker phone.
Hey you three…” He trailed off for a moment. “ I'm sorry to make you guys drive all the way out here for me. I should've listened to Katana. I’m sorry.” He sounded like he was crying again, a soft sob following his slurred apology. The three younger demons all felt their hearts break simultaneously as Hyperlaser spoke, Shuriken and Slingshot looking at each other with sad eyes. Katana was struggling to put in the address until Shuiken leaned over to give him a hand, silence echoing between the five for a moment until a voice spoke up.
“It's okay Hyperlaser. Any friend of Katana's is a friend of ours!” Slingshot smiled as he responded, cheerful as ever. A small sob was barely audible over the phone.
Thank you guys. You're all amazing. I'm sorry.” His voice cracked a little again, and Katana nearly shed another tear. The four were driving to him by then, gps glowing brightly in the dim moonlight.
“We're on our way, Hyperlaser.” Vine Staff told the demon, smiling a little. “We'll be there as soon as we can.” She finished, pressing her foot on the accelerator a little harder. Katana gave her a glance, before turning the phone off speaker and bringing it back to his ear.
“I'll be there soon.” He muttered into the phone, only hearing sniffles in response. They were both quiet for a moment, Katana listening as Shuriken and Slingshot whispered quietly to each other.
“I'll hang up now. I won't go anywhere, promise .” Hyperlaser told Katana, still sounding so sad the swordsman wanted to cry himself.
“If you're sure, Hyperlaser. You can ring me again if you need while you wait for us. I'll always pick up.” Katana heard Shuriken gush in the backseat. Hyperlaser made a noise of affirmation before speaking.
I know. I'll see you guys soon?”   It was more of a question, and Katana made his own noise of affirmation in response. A beat of silence passed between the two, before Hyperlaser hung up on the other end.
~~~~

As soon as he hit the end call button, Hyperlaser let out a wail. He didn't want to hang up. He wanted to stay on that call until Katana arrived and held him tight and told him it was all okay. He wasn't even sure the demon would do it, that part was just a prayer. He would have stayed, but it felt almost awkward with the other three inphernals. So Hyperlaser hung up, and immediately started crying again.

He felt so awful for making Katana come halfway to Blackrock just to come pick him up, and needing the other three to come with? Hyperlaser was starting to wish he had crashed and died. The thoughts in the back of his head echoed the thoughts at the front, reminding him how terrible he felt. Not only do you need to bother Katana, but the other three too? Fuck you're pathetic. You really should have hit something and been just a mangled corpse for them to find, not a sobbing mess.

Hyperlaser let out another sob, loud and choked out painfully. He scrunched up into a ball on his seat, burying his face in his knees, long hair falling to the sides. His body racked with sobs, shaking as he wailed loudly into the quiet air. His tail wrapped its way around his bundled legs, tucking itself in under his prosthetic. He just sat there and cried his heart out, tears soaking into his pants. He was surprised he hadn't run out of tears, if he was being honest.

He sat there for what felt like forever, his back cramping painfully as he sobbed. Suddenly, bright lights pierced through the dark night and pulled up behind him. Hyperlaser looked up, glancing at the pink car- Vine Staff's. They were here. He sat up properly, untucking his tail and throwing the door open. He stumbled out of his car and into the snow, looking up to see Katana already clambering out of Vine Staff’s car. The swordsman saw Hyperlaser standing there, weak and shaking, barely able to keep himself standing. He took off from beside the pink car, stomping through the snow toward the mercenary. Katana practically crashed into Hyperlaser, picking him up and hugging him tightly, pressing the shorter demon's scarred face into his shoulder as he began to sob again.

Hyperlaser's wails echoed out into the silent night, muffled by Katanas haori. A large hand found itself in the mercenary's hair, tangled amongst the long strands comfortingly. Muttered apologies spewed out of Hyperlaser's mouth, slurred by the alcohol and tears. Katana hushed him gently, softly repeating ‘ it's okay’ until the shorter stopped apologising and just cried. The two held each other for a while, crying together as they stood in the slowly falling snow.

The trio Katana had arrived with half watched awkwardly, deciding to turn to each other to talk instead of intruding.

“I didn't know Katana could run- Hey!” Slingshot was cut off by Shuriken punching his shoulder, followed by a small glare from Vine Staff.

“Sling, his best friend just drove twenty minutes heavily under the influence. It's no wonder he was worried.” The pink demon spoke softly, glancing over at the pair, who were still holding each other. Slingshot mumbled something inaudible, watching as Vine Staff trudged through the snow toward the two older demons.

“Hey Hyperlaser..” She started once she was beside them. Katana looked up and at her, his back to the demon, before swinging the two of them around so Hyperlasers face was hidden away. He moved the hand that had been playing with the mercenary's hair away, covering his face more. Katana ignored the way his heart fluttered at the tiny whine Hyperlaser let out as the hand was moved away. And he definitely ignored the look Vine Staff was giving him at the response he'd garnered from Hyperlaser at the movement.

“We're gonna get you home, Hyper. Did you want me to grab your helmet? Or do you want Katana to grab it?” The mercenary shook his head, still buried in Katana's haori.

“No, it's ok… I trust you three.” He mumbled, face turning to look at Vine Staff slightly, tears still welled in his visible eye but a small smile stretched over his lips. Vine Staff could smell the beer- and cigarette smoke- on him, but smiled back. She noticed the mottled scarring that stretched over just about every inch of the demon's face. His skin was spotty and discoloured, his eyelashes patchy beneath the scars. She noticed mangled, cobalt blue horn stubs on the sides of his head, a little higher than the ones on his helmet. A wave of pity washed over her before she blinked and remembered what she was doing.

“If you insist.” She nodded, glancing at Katana. He smiled at her, blinking away a few tears as Vine Staff waved over the other two demons.

“So what's the plan? I'll drive you two in my car, and Sling will drive Hypers-” “He is not driving my fucking car.” Hyperlaser interrupted the pink demon, turning to glare at Slingshot. Vine Staff and Shuriken started giggling, Slingshot stepping back with a hand on his chest in mock offense.

“Wow Hyper! I can't believe you, what did I do to deserve this treatment!” He exclaimed, pretending to angrily glare at the mercenary.

“I heard what you did to Sword's car. I am not allowing that to happen to my own vehicle. Vine Staff can drive mine.” Hyperlaser stated matter-of-factly, burying his head back into Katana. Vine Staff went to protest, but quickly snapped her mouth shut at the glare she was receiving from Katana.

The tall demon buried his hand back in Hyperlaser's hair, the mercenary immediately melting into the touch. His tail started wagging excitedly, throwing snow around as Katana played with his hair. Hyperlaser had a hand around Katana's waist, playing with his short, fluffy tail. When Katana looked down to gush slightly at the sight, Shuriken quickly snapped a photo, grinning to himself. After a moment longer, Katana mumbled something to the shorter demon in his arms. Hyperlaser grumbled something back, something about Katana being warm, but pulled away from the inphernal. He and Katana trotted around to the passenger side, picking up the former's helmet off the seat. Hyperlaser let out a small whine at the packet of crushed cigarettes, leaning down to see if any were still intact. Katana ignored the way his cheeks heated up at the soft noise.

“Maybe it's a good thing they were crushed. You're getting addicted to those things, Hyperlaser.” Katana commented, earning a drunken glare from Hyperlaser.

“I’m not addicted!” He defended, tail flicking indignantly.

“I could smell the smoke on you when I arrived at the bar. And when you returned from your trip with that other demon.” Hyperlaser flushed, embarrassed. He'd really hoped Katana hadn't noticed. He made a hmph noise, turning back to his crushed cigarettes and sifting through the broken packet. Hyperlaser fished out a mostly intact one, pulling out his lighter and igniting it quickly.

His move earned a soft glare from Katana, who took the packet out of his hands. He threw the crushed cigarettes back into the car as Vine Staff was climbing in the front seat, her blinking, surprised at the packet. She gave a concerned look toward the pair on the other side, who were still having a staring contest. Hyperlaser blew out the smoke in his mouth, away from Katana, and stuck his tongue out at the taller demon, giggling drunkenly. Katana sighed affectionately, dragging him away from the three younger demons. The trio were left to chat while Hyperlaser finished his cigarette, Katana standing nearby and admiring the almost graceful way he smoked it.

Shuriken climbed into Hyperlaser's passenger seat, glancing around. The car seemed quite fancy- no wonder he wanted Slingshot far away from the driver's seat. The siblings buckled themselves in, chatting to Slingshot who was leaning in the open passenger window. Once Hyperlaser had finished his smoke, the pair walked back over to the cars. The younger demons paused their conversation as they approached, all three noticing the way Katana held Hyperlaser's hand.

“Let's head off, it's already quarter to four in the morning.” Vine Staff stated, looking around herself for the keys to the car. Hyperlaser pulled them out of his pocket and threw them across to her, which she grinned at.

“God Vine, have you heard of speaking fuckin normally? What the hell is a ‘quarter to four'?” Slingshot whined, earning an eye roll from both Vine Staff and Katana.

“It means its three-forty five in the morning, you fucking idiot Sling. Now go get driving! Hyper looks like he's about to pass out in the snow.” Shuriken interrupted, shit eating grin plastered on his face. Slingshot was about to argue when he turned to face Hyperlaser, noticing Shuriken was right. The demon did look like he was about to pass out, leaning his bodyweight against Katana. He simply nodded instead, catching Vine Staff’s keys that she threw at him.

“Right, I'll lead. Let's go!” Slingshot said, waving as he ran off to the pink car parked a ways away.

“Don't crash my fucking car!” Vine Staff yelled out the window, making Shuriken burst into loud laughter next to her. Katana smiled to himself, leading a stumbling Hyperlaser to the other car. He opened the back door, ushering the mercenary in and climbing in himself. He did both of their seatbelts up, Hyperlaser too busy giggling over the plush backseat of Vine Staff’s car. Katana nodded to Slingshot once the pair were buckled, and received a nod in return as he fired the car up. He watched as the catlike demon waved to the siblings in Hyperlaser's car as he passed them, pulling out onto the road and beginning the drive home.

“I hope Princess is alright…” Hyperlaser mumbled to himself, leaning against Katana with a sigh. Katana flushed red slightly, smiling at the shorter demon next to him. He lifted a hand to Hyperlaser's head, digging it into his long hair, the mercenary responding with an adoring sigh and leaning further into Katana.

“I’m sure she will be.” Katana comforted, brushing through Hyperlaser's long hair. His shark-like tail hit the fluffy seats of Vine Staff’s car excitedly. His face flushed a deeper shade of blue as he subconsciously started making noises Katana noticed were akin to Princess's purring. Katanas face flushed a deep red, smiling as he continued to almost pet the demon.

Slingshot glanced in the rearview mirror, smiling giddily to himself as he watched the two cuddle. He heard mumbling between the two, and tried not to eavesdrop. He decided to mentally sing songs to himself, humming the first Flipside song he thought of.

“I love you, Katana.” Hyperlaser mumbled, slurring his words still as his blush deepened. Katana paused his petting for a second, before returning to the comforting motion.

“I love you too, Hyperlaser.” Katana smiled, listening to the way the demon's tail hit against the seats. Katana's own tail fluffed up behind him. A moment of quiet passed between the two before Hyperlaser looked up at the red demon. Katana paused once again, cocking his head slightly.

And in one swift movement, Hyperlaser pulled himself up and kissed Katana.

It was brief and messy, but incredible in every way both had secretly imagined for months. Hyperlaser pulled away after a moment, a lopsided giddy smile stretched wide over his scarred face. Katana gave him a smile as well, though couldn't hide the slight grimace on his face. Hyperlaser immediately became worried, shrinking back slightly.

“You taste like cigarettes.” Katana stated bluntly, smiling at the demon. Hyperlaser paused for a moment before bursting into a fit of giggles, bumping into Katana's side with an adoring grin. The laughter caught Slingshot's attention, who glanced in the rearview and nearly choked as he watched Hyperlaser kiss Katana once more. He quickly looked away, focusing intently on the road in front of him. The mercenary was still giggling while he kissed Katana, pulling away after a few moments and returning to lying against him. The swordsman returned to running his hands through Hyperlaser's hair, the two sitting in relative quiet together.

The only interruptions to their peaceful moments afterward were the sounds of Hyperlaser's tail hitting the seat, and his purring. Not long after their kiss, Hyperlaser fell asleep, tail slowing its attack on Vine Staff’s seats, his purr quieting. Katana continued to play in the mercenary's hair, although the late night was starting to get to him. He yawned widely, catching Slingshot's grin out of the corner of his eye as the demon drove them through Crossroads. Slowly, Katana also fell asleep, head resting on top of Hyperlaser's, hand dropped to lay around the inphernal’s shoulder.

~~

Eventually, the five demons and two cars made it back to Katana's house. Slingshot parked the car, hesitating before electing to not quite shut off the car. He turned around, pulling out his phone and snapping a few photos of the two, fast asleep against each other. They looked so peaceful he didn't want to wake the pair, the way Hyperlaser's tail still wagged made him smile. Slingshot finally clicked the car off, pulling out Vine Staff’s keys as the two siblings exited Hyperlaser's car, locking it behind them. Shuriken went to ask Slingshot a question through the open window, pausing when the catlike demon shushed him. He pointed at the pair in the backseat of the car, barely stirring when the car turned off.

Slingshot finally climbed out of Vine Staff’s car, gesturing for her to wake the two older demons. She nodded, and the other two started toward the door, aiming to head inside. Vine Staff opened the door opposite the pair asleep, leaning over slightly and shaking Hyperlaser awake gently. He stirred with a groan, blinking slowly at Vine Staff. He cocked his head at her, face still flushed blue.

“Let's get you two into bed, hmm? How's that sound?” Hyper perked up a little, a comfortable bed sounded really good to him. He turned groggily, and shook Katana awake. The swordsman had a similar reaction to Hyperlaser, and the shorter smiled at him drunkenly.

“Vine says you got a bed… sounds warmmm…” Hyperlaser giggled to himself, slurring his words as he backed out of the car, nearly tripping over himself had Vine Staff not been there to catch him. Katana blinked a few times, before following the demon and climbing out of the car. Vine Staff shut the door behind him, texting her roommate to lock her car for her as she walked behind the pair of older demons. She heard the car click behind her, smiling softly as she followed the two inside and pulled Katana's front door shut.

Slingshot and Shuriken were standing near the entrance, the former holding a pile of clothes- something for Hyperlaser to wear, she assumed. The pair watched as the three of them pulled their shoes off, Hyperlaser struggling with his own boots. Once he pulled off the second boot, the trio were surprised to hear a metallic clunk against the floor, though none said anything. Vine Staff guessed correctly about the clothes, seeing as Slingshot handed them to the mercenary, commenting that he hoped they fit. Hyperlaser nodded thankfully, burying them in his arms.

“Thanks for picking me up you guys.” Hyperlaser slurred, tilting his head like a cat as he smiled at the three. They nodded in return, smiling back at him softly.

“We're just glad you're alright, Hyper.” Vine Staff said, watching the way he flushed a slightly deeper blue and leaned into Katana.

“Sorry about that all…” He mumbled, tail wrapping around Katana's leg. Vine Staff noticed the way the swordsman blushed at the contact.

“It's alright Hyper. Now you two should go get some sleep, we're gonna do the same.” She smiled at the pair, waving as she, Shuriken and Slingshot walked away to Katana's spare room. The two older demons watched them walk away for a moment before one spoke.

“Bedtime. I'm fucking tired.” Hyperlaser said bluntly, making Katana chuckle as he led the shorter to his bedroom. He opened the door, not bothering with the light as he led Hyperlaser inside. Even though it was dark, the mercenary gushed over the size- it was probably as big as half of his apartment, a large, comfortable looking bed sat in the middle. Hyperlaser trotted over, sitting down on the edge, turning to watch as Katana closed the door behind him, following the shorter to the bed. Hyperlaser placed the clothes Slingshot had let him borrow beside him, glancing at them. Loose shorts, and a t-shirt with a print he couldn't read in the dark.

Katana went to open his mouth, explain that he had a privacy screen he could change behind when Hyperlaser simply unbuckled his pants and dropped them to the floor. Katana flushed a deep red as he watched the blue demon awkwardly climb out of the pants, picking them up and placing them on the bed. He took his jacket off also, then followed with his dress shirt beneath it, added to the pile with his pants. He'd turned toward the bed, and Katana, and the swordsman was thanking himself for not turning the light on- Hyperlaser was standing there in just his boxers, completely oblivious to Katana's blush that was as bright as his red horns. He watched as the mercenary awkwardly slipped the shorts over his legs, before pulling the shirt over his bare chest.

Katana shook himself out of his daze, turning to change himself. He quickly grabbed his own pyjamas- his jinbei, which lay neatly on the end of his bed. He quickly changed into it, ignoring the stare he thought he could feel from Hyperlaser.

“You’re hot.” Hyperlaser said, as if it were fact. Katana froze, halfway through pulling his shorts on, face burning hot. He glanced up to see the shorter demon staring at Katana from where he sat on the end of the bed, his tail whipping the bed excitedly. Katana mumbled an awkward thanks, his own tail fluffed up in embarrassment. He finished pulling his shorts on, walking over to the other side of the bed where Hyperlaser had begun to struggle to take his prosthetic leg off.

Katana crouched down, assisting him in clicking off the mechanical limb. He pulled it off gently, glancing at the stump that was all that was left of the mercenary's leg. Katana shifted slightly, beginning to loosen the brace that wrapped around his other leg. Hyperlaser watched him intently, tail still excitedly hitting the bed. The swordsman felt his own tail fluff up a little more, sliding off the brace eventually. Katana pushed himself off the floor, placing both aids beside the bed, close incase Hyperlaser needed them. He took the mercenary's clothes, handing him his phone before placing the pile at the end of the bed on the soft ottoman.

Katana made his way back to his side of the bed, watching out of the corner of his eye as Hyperlaser pulled himself under the blankets. He settled in with a content sigh, smiling drunkenly at Katana as he climbed in himself. The two laid next to each other for a moment, laying an almost awkward distance apart. A beat passed, and Hyperlaser rolled over and attached himself to Katana's side. He cuddled into the larger demon's side, settling in with a soft hum as his tail flicked under the blankets. He buried his face into Katana's chest, which made the demon blush a bright red.

“Thank you for tonight, Katana. Sorry again…” Hyperlaser mumbled into the demon's top, nuzzling further into him.

“Anytime, Hyperlaser. Whenever you need me, I'll be there.” And after a moment he added, “I love you.” He felt Hyperlaser grip him tighter, smiling into his chest.

“I love you too, Katana.” He smiled wider as he felt the demon lean down slightly and kiss his head gently, beginning to purr slightly. He mumbled a goodnight, his eyes finally shutting for the night. Katana returned the goodnight, closing his eyes and leaning further into Hyperlaser as they fell asleep.
