Chapter 1: Robin's Fault - Narrated by Bart
Summary:
(Totally not Bart's)
Chapter Text
If anyone asks, it was Robin's fault. Hopefully no one asks, because that would mean they KNOW, but– if they DO, it's Robin's fault! Definitely not Bart's fault in any way, shape, or form. Nuh uh.
Robin was the one to crash the ship! He was even the one who suggested the trip in the first place, AND the one who offered Young Just Us's services and then tricked the rest of the team into going above and beyond and catching the perp! All signs point to Robin as the fault-taker. Bart can attest, and Kon would probably even back him up! Maybe.
...Or Cassie?
Definitely not Robin, though, because Robin doesn't blame himself. Kon says Robin always blames one of them and Kon's probably right. Bart should probably know, because he's been here, but who cares! Point is, it's Robin's fault.
What's Robin's fault? Oh, uh...
Okay, so it obviously started in space. Robin insisted that he get to learn how to fly the spaceship first because he apparently is "the only person who'd actually read the instructions except maybe Cassie, sorry Cassie" and therefore he gets the first turn at the controls. By "the first turn" he of course meant "the one to fly them to Myrg so Doiby can actually teach them how to fly a spaceship". And then, what nerves, Robin CRASHES THE SPACESHIP! Lucky them, he crashes the ship into a habited planet- but immediately they are pestered for papers!
Oh, what a horrible government, so attached to formal papers- and of course, they have no papers, so off they go to the dungeons! And there, they meet the King, of course. Cool guy, really, if not for the paper-obsession. A bit sad, though, because the Queen just died and he has NO CLUE who killed her! Robin negotiates their freedom as payment for figuring it out (See? It's Robin's fault) while the rest of them try to find a way out.
The King took his sweet time getting back to them, of course, because he had to fill out forms (Ew) to give them permission to go out to solve the mystery. Robin took this time to (Finally!) actually tell people what he agreed to. Kon snarked at Rob a bit for offering help before asking them, but everything was okay because Kon probably would've done the same and Robin pointed that out and Kon couldn't deny it (His spluttering was extremely amusing). After that, Robin passed along the brief the King had given him and the King came and collected Young Just Us for the investigation. He said a bunch of words, but what matters is that Robin solved it real quick once they got the details and they went and picked up the perp who killed the Queen (Her sister who thought the King'd marry her if the Queen was dead, yikes) because SOMEONE (Robin) thought that the King wanted them to capture the assassin when actually he just wanted them to figure out who it was.
The whole thing was over rather quickly, which just meant that the King felt he owed them MORE than just freedom. Young Just Us all tried to convince him that they'd be fine with just freedom and their ship repaired, but the King INSISTED that they get another gift. He offered his daughters' hand in marriage to ALL OF THEM. Panicked and not wanting an arranged marriage, Bart blurted out (And this is why he has to specify it was ROBIN'S fault) "We're already married!"
The King, for SOME REASON, immediately went "Oh, I should've guessed. Of course you four are married to each other- I'll just have to help you update your marriage forms for here, then."
Young Just Us TRIES to get him not to without revealing that the King's wrong (And they can't do that for weird legal reasons, at least according to Robin once they were left alone. Still not an excuse for BITING THEM every time they tried to say that, ROBIN) but in the end the King wins. (At least they managed to convince him not to add his daughter in, he got DANGEROUSLY close)
When they eventually get somewhere out of hearing range of the King, the other three immediately blame Bart. RUDE! They give up pretty quickly though (And by that Bart of course means they got side tracked by pestering Robin for the reasons for the biting), and they talk about plans! They can't escape until their ship's fixed (Which is going to take FOREVER), so they just have to deal with the King's attempts the help them "plan their second wedding" (that's actually their first because THEY'RE NOT MARRIED) and then never talk about this again once they're off. It's not like any of their mentors would find the marriage certificate since it's from a random planet. Probably.
Bart goes to bed that night certain of one thing:
THIS ENTIRE SITUATION IS ROBIN'S FAULT.
Chapter 2: Plans and Preparations - Outlined by Tim
Summary:
(And only a few existential crises)

Chapter Text
As it turned out, alien weddings do differ from Earth weddings or even Kryptonian or Amazonian or future weddings, at least from what little Tim knows. He certainly knows more now than he did before. The alien wedding planning process (or at least re-wedding planning process) goes like this:
0.5. Married people share a bed (not a big deal, Young Just Us usually sleeps in a pile on days they're together anyway, but it's still probably worth mentioning)
"Ah" Tim stops in the door of the bedroom they had been guided to "I definitely should've expected this"
"What?" Bart asks, peeking out from behind him "Oh! Cuddle pile!!"
Tim snorts, and steps aside just in time for Bart to sprint onto the single (extremely large) bed. Kon and Cassie trickle in after him.
"Bart! You better not be taking the center!" Kon calls after him. Cassie snickers.
Bart whines, but shifts to make room for Kon on his right. In Standard Young Justice Cuddle Pile Formation™, Bart is leftmost, then Kon, then Tim, then Cassie, and finally, if she's there, Cissie. Anita, Suzie and Lil Lobo never join in; Suzie's unfortunately incorporeal and cuddle attempts usually just make her sad, Anita usually perches somewhere off to the side, and Lil Lobo leaves as soon as the action is over. Kon plops down on the bed with a huff. Since no one's calling out positions, Tim's pretty sure it's safe to assume they're going Standard for this.
Kon sinks into the mattress with a relaxed sigh. A moment later he looks back at Tim and Cassie "What're you doing? C'mon! Bed's nice"
Tim huffs but, after the necessary alterations to make his uniform comfortable for sleeping, joins the others on the bed. Cassie is faster, already burying her head into a pillow on the right side of the bed by the time Tim spreads out in the center.
"I'm so glad my mom doesn't know what we do on our missions" Cassie murmurs into the pillow. Tim chokes laughing, because yeah, he gets that. He feels the same about B. Kon makes a disgruntled sound and flails an arm to shut Tim up.
Tim lets out a final few snickers, but acquiesces to Kon's wordless command to just sleep. They'll figure it out in the morning.
1. A time and date range are selected (usually a month after engagement, but Young Just Us bargained down to a week (which they will regret); then the re-wedding is to last one day)
"Please?" Bart begs, holding his hands together above his head, kneeling "I don't want to wait a month to leave!"
Tim's lip twitches. He's amused, he'll admit it, if only in the safety of his own mind. "If you can find a way to present the case to the King without being offensive, sure."
Bart lights up. "Thank you!" and then he speeds away.
"Check with me before you present it!" Tim calls at his retreating back. Hopefully Bart heard him.
(Bart did check with Tim first, though whether that was because he actually heard him or if Bart just figured that would be good to do is still up for debate. The angle Bart ended up going with was "We have business to attend to elsewhere and we wouldn't want to miss out on it". It worked, though Tim's still trying to figure out if that's a good thing or not.)
2. The guest list is decided on (subject to change at any point; since Young Just Us didn't bring their family, they got stuck with everyone in the castle as theirs)
"Oh god, we're totally going to be expected to kiss, aren't we?" Tim realizes as soon as they step foot back in their temporary bedroom.
"Yyyeah?" Bart says, coming to a stop "Probably?"
"Why do you say that?" Kon asks, a bit bewildered.
Cassie turns to Kon and informs him "Newlyweds generally kiss at the end of weddings, and since we're going to be in front of strangers..."
"Oh" Kon sounds kind of strangled, face stained a vibrant orange.
Tim buries his head in his hands "My girlfriend's going to kill me if she ever finds out about this"
"All the more reason to never talk about it ever!" Cassie cheers. Tim's pretty sure she's just hoping her mom never finds out.
2.5. Symbolic objects are selected for each missing family member (Young Just Us has a breakdown that night because oh god they're actually doing this and their families have no idea)
"Alright, who are we including?" Cassie asks the group, pen in hand ready to write down their decisions
"Anita, Lil Lobo, Suzie, and Cissie" Kon says immediately "Just because they couldn't come doesn't mean they don't deserve to be here"
Cassie nods "Of course, I already wrote them down. Anyone else? I'm also including my mom."
The other three share pinched expressions.
"Max" Bart volunteers "Kon can have Clark, even if he's a prick"
Kon makes a choked grossed out noise "No, no, Clark doesn't get to attend. How about… Dubbilex?" The other three immediately veto the idea. Kon pouts, and Cassie, Bart, and Tim exchange looks and silently agree to torment Clark when they get back. It sounds like he did something again.
Tim makes a face but says "I guess we should probably include B and Nightwing. They're not my family, but I feel obligated. Maybe Spoiler, but it kind of feels disrespectful to invite your girlfriend to your wedding" Based on Cassie scrunching up her nose, she agrees.
"What about your parents?" Bart asks, hanging from the ceiling "You have those, don't you?"
Tim shakes his head vehemently "They wouldn't show up to my real wedding if it wasn't public" He does not, in fact, miss the murderous looks the other three share. He just ignores it.
"Well" Cassie says, looking down at their list "Object time, I guess"
"B's a batarang and Nightwing's a bird statue" Tim says immediately "I have spare batarangs and there's probably something resembling a bird in one of these shops"
"Bart?" Cassie asks "What's Max?"
"A clock" Bart informs them.
Cassie nods "Alright, now for the rest of Young Just Us"
"An arrow for Cissie" Kon suggests "And a bottle for Suzie"
"Cissie could also be a gold medal" Bart points out
Tim waves a hand "We probably don't have one of those. An arrow is easier. Anita could be a doll?"
Cassie nods her head "Sure, yeah, those work. Lil Lobo?"
There's a moment of silence as they think of something before Bart blurts out "A wheel! Because, y'know..."
"Yeah, sounds good" Tim nods, instantly getting it. Kon and Cassie start nodding too a few seconds later.
"Let's go! Maybe this won't be too hard after all!" Kon cheers.
3. A location is selected (they look for several hours and then just go with the castle gardens)
"I don't knowwww" Kon whines. The rest of the group isn't doing much better.
Cassie claps "Okay, that's it. No more being indecisive, we're just going with the castle gardens."
No one has the energy to argue, even if Tim barely restrains a frown at going with their first choice after so long looking.
4. The spouses (and yes, marrying multiple people is normal here) get presents for each other (kind of like wedding rings, but anything that can be kept on them at all times works)
While they're wandering around looking for locations, Tim sneaks off to buy jewelry for them. He's pretty sure the others also sneak off to acquire their own gifts then.
5. Food and drink is decided on (it's apparently a requirement for there to be each spouses' favorite food)
"Nothing too weird or hard to make" Cassie requests "The King was kind enough to say he'd find the food vendors for us as long as we put together a list of foods" Tim raises his hand "Tim?"
"Zestis?" Tim suggests
"If you brought any with you" Cassie reluctantly replies "I'm not asking the King for any energy drinks"
"Pie!" Kon requests "I'm guessing we don't get to have normal Earth fruits?"
"You'd be right" she grimaces "This place has zero trade with Earth"
Kon and Tim mimic her grimace, but Tim points out "Less likely for our mentors to find out about this?"
Cassie relaxes a touch "You're right." She exhales "At least there's something good coming from our misery?"
"Can we try a bunch of staple foods here?" Bart asks eagerly "So we know what to list?"
Cassie sighs fondly "Yes, Bart, we can"
"Let's go!" Bart pumps his fist in the air
"I'll open the spreadsheet" Tim adds, resigned to a day of food taste testing.
Kon snorts "Remember to grab the edibility tester!"
"I'd never forget!" Tim calls back as he walks away to grab his statistics tablet.
(It wasn't that far away, they'd already tried a few different foods the day before while looking for locations.)
6. The spouses have to write their "new" vows (Young Just Us agree to be genuine in their vows, if tweaked a bit to sound more romantic)
"Is this cheating?" Tim wonders aloud "Am I cheating on my girlfriend?"
"No" Bart says
"Maybe" Kon hedges
"Yes" Cassie informs him
Tim scowls "It was a rhetorical question!"
"No it wasn't" Kon snips "If it was rhetorical we would know the answer"
Tim falls back onto the bed, groaning "Why is writing vows so harddddd"
"Skill issue" Bart chirps happily, easily dodging the batarang Tim throws. To be fair, he threw it knowing Bart would dodge.
"There's no way you aren't struggling just as much as I am!" Tim protests
Tim sits up just enough to catch a glimpse at Bart's evil grin. "I'm done, actually"
"No" Tim says "I refuse. You're not."
Kon and Cassie snicker at him, the traitors. He glares at them to remind them that they aren't done either.
6.5. Waste another day panicking because if they're being genuine then this kind of actually counts as getting married and oh god they're doing this
Tim lays face-down on the far-too-comfortable bed, listening to Cassie panic about this while Bart doesn't understand why she's panicking and Kon pretends not to understand why she's panicking. Luckily, Tim's internal screaming has yet to upgrade to external screaming.
"Does this mean I can no longer say I'm single?" Kon asks
Tim makes an inarticulate sound of distress. Bart vibrates at an audible frequency (his happy vibrations, Tim notes) and probably nods. Cassie flat out says no.
"Bart, have you even dated someone before?" Cassie asks
"No, why?"
Cassie looks a bit despairing "Are we going to be your first kiss?"
"No" Bart says, and Cassie looks relieved, but Tim knows- "I kissed Robin ages ago"
Cassie screams into her hands.
Kon chimes in "Is he a good kisser?"
"Oh, yeah, it was great" Bart vibrates at louder frequency "I haven't actually kissed anyone else before but I doubt they're as good as him"
Kon hums "Well, that'll change soon, I guess. Unless you want to change it now, as practice?"
Tim looks up blearily to see Kon wiggling his eyebrows. Dork. Bart's up in Kon's face and Cassie's still screaming into her hands. "Sh'dup Cassie" He grumbles "You're almost as loud as Bart's vibrating"
Cassie does not stop screaming. Tim takes it upon himself to unpeel himself from his bed, glance at where Kon and Bart are making out, and then go over and snap in Cassie's face.
"Hey" Tim says "Walk?"
She nods sadly.
They leave.
(Unfortunately, when they return later that day Bart takes it upon himself to inform them how the kiss went. Apparently it was about on par with Tim. Kon was too much of a blushing mess to rate Bart's in comparison to other kisses he's had but they're all pretty sure Bart made it to Kon's number 1 spot.)
7. Remember to stay in shape because apparently ritualistic combat is part of re-wedding ceremonies here.
Cassie grins at Tim from across the gym as they finish their stretches. Luckily, the King let them access a good enough gym to spar in. Kon counts them in.
"3"
Tim gets into a ready position. Cassie mirrors him.
"2"
They both step forward, beginning to circle each other
"1"
Tim analyzes Cassie and Cassie analyzes him in return.
"Fight!"
Cassie dives in first. They've sparred enough times for Cassie to know that she has to. She ducks down for a low kick at his legs but Tim cleanly dodges and takes the opportunity to hit her with a twist of his bo staff. Cassie rolls with the hit, popping back up and going in for a punch that Tim blocks. He winces slightly at the twinge of pain. He blocked wrong and his poor arm is paying the cost. He steps back and goes to hit her with the bo staff again, but this time she blocks it.
Normally in a fight, Tim takes the time to analyze his opponent and strategize, but here he already knows his opponent, and he's just here to warm up.
Tim pulls his bo back and then tries again lower. She blocks again. He steps forward, she tries to punch, he barely dodges. He swings, hits, and they rotate. Cassie pushes forward, punching and kicking. He blocks or dodges most hits, but she manages to get in a few. He gets in just as many in the openings she leaves with her barrage of attacks.
Tim sidesteps another kick and then crouches away from a punch. He tries to sweep her legs out from under her, but he only gets one leg. She pivots and turns his attack into a kick into his chest, and he shoots up, hitting her with his staff. She grins at him and he grins back. He extracts himself from punching range and they spin around each other, looking for another opening.
Tim strikes. The first hit is blocked, but she doesn't dodge the kick. She falls back and Tim darts forward to pin her. Cassie lets him.
It's a moment of them breathing, Cassie pinned with Tim's bo, before Kon and Bart start cheering. Tim smirks, and offers her a hand up. She accepts, a glimmer in her eyes.
"Alright, who's next?" Tim turns, addressing the room.
8. Oh right weddings need entertainment, go find some (Young Just Us only start a few fires looking)
Tim looks up to see Bart and Kon sprinting into their temporary bedroom, slightly singed and with guilty expressions. "What did you two do."
Their expressions quickly morph to their best i'm-totally-innocent looks "Nothing!" Kon insists at the same time Bart explains "Wewerelookingforentertainmentandwesawacoolgameandwekindamaybeplayedtoofastanditexplodedandtheownerwasreallymadatussowejustran"
Tim pinches the bridge of his nose. At moments like these he's glad he trained his brain to understand Bart even when he's talking fast. Cassie snickers in the background, because apparently she's mature enough to be in charge of wedding planning but not mature enough to deal with Kon and Bart.
"Did you at least find something viable to serve as entertainment?"
"Yes!" Bart says, vibrating "Wefoundsomeothergamesandsomecoolguys"
Kon shrugs "We didn't actually ask anyone though, we figured the King could do the convincing for us"
"Okay" Tim sighs "Give Cassie a written list so she can ask, I'm going to go make sure you two didn't break any laws"
"Gotit!" Bart nods rapidly.
(The answer was that they didn't break any laws but they did break significantly more objects than Bart claimed. Tim wastes several hours trying to make it up to all the shop owners. At some point he drags Kon and Bart out to join him because apologies are easier to accept when it's by the people who actually committed the act.)
9. Make a wedding music playlist (the King wanted a live band but Young Just Us managed to convince him to let them just play some music from their speakers)
"Make it stopppp" Tim whines, covering his head with a pillow.
Kon, Cassie, and Bart ignore him and continue going through music. Ten songs later, Kon calls over "If you don't participate you don't get a say in what music plays!"
Tim groans, but reluctantly shows his face "This one sucks. Don't play it."
Kon notes that down, having taken over as music organizer three songs in. Bart is fidgeting, trying his best to not vibrate loud enough to impede their ability to gauge whether it's a good song. Cassie's head is down on the table but she's still in a better mood than Tim.
"Can we take a break?" Tim begs "We can go eat something!"
Bart shoots up "Sure if I get to pick where!"
"Go for it" Tim tells him, once more collapsing his head onto the bed.
"I'm up for a break" Cassie says, perking up a bit.
Kon pouts, but turns off the music. He knows when he's outvoted.
10. Flowers!
Tim slumps into the table in defeat. Cassie pats his back "It's okay, Tim, it doesn't have to be perfect"
A groan sounds from the downed Robin. Kon, on the other side of the table, is in a similar condition. Kon's the one to break the news "They don't have real flowers. Only weird possibly sentient alien ones."
Cassie winces "Well, it is an alien planet. C'mon, let me see"
Tim briefly unsticks his face from the table to slide a brochure of 'flowers' to an open spot at the table. Cassie sits to look over it, her wincing getting more and more pronounced as she looks at it.
"I-interesting, um" Cassie squints "What about this, uh, 'nice' blue one?"
Kon peers at it "The King's allergic to that one."
Cassie makes a wounded noise.
"You know what, we're in the garden anyway. We don't need flowers." Tim decides.
Cassie takes another glance at the pamphlet and quietly agrees. Kon doesn't even do that, just gives a thumbs up and walks away.
11. Have the wedding
And then suddenly it's the day and they realize that they completely forgot that weddings usually need special outfits.
"It's fine. This is fine." Tim murmurs, pacing and running his hand through his hair "We're superheroes. It's perfectly normal to not change outfits, even for a wedding. Yeah."
The other three snicker at him.
(He's not convinced, but it's too late now)
Notes:
in the google docs version, the steps are just indented and not bolded or centered, but i ended up changing the formatting bc i couldn't figure out how to do indents in ao3 and it looked better bolded.
sorry that cass isn't mentioned, i couldn't figure out what she was up to at this point in the timeline and i'm trying to be at least mostly canon compliant. maybe if someone tells me i'll go back and edit her in.
i also really hope i don't regret putting in ritualistic combat into this wedding! i haven't started writing that yet bc i'm stuck on the vows, but the practice spar wasn't too hard so i'm hoping it won't be TOO painful
final note! please comment when + how you want the hero community at large to find out about the marriage. i'm being indecisive, but i'll put my final decision in the end notes of the next chapter- that means you all have a week to comment suggestions that i'll actually pay attention to.
up next: the wedding
Chapter 3: Pins and Promises — Illustrated by Kon
Summary:
(Somehow, not the weirdest thing Kon's taken part in)
Notes:
the original chapter title for this was "alien re-wedding" (and that's what i wrote the summary to pair with) but i decided that "pins and promises" sounded cooler, lol.
this chapter was actually SO hard to write. possibly because i wrote it almost entirely outside of actually being in a writing mood. and it's only "almost" entirely because i wrote a paragraph or two of this part back when this fic was a oneshot, pretty much finished the first paragraph of the chapter later on, and then wrote the rest in the past two days (plus today) because i didn't have any more time to procrastinate.
anyway, hope you enjoy my suffering!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Kon's pretty sure none of them slept more than an hour the night before the wedding. He certainly didn't. The entire time he was just remembering the feeling of Bart's lips against his, heart speeding up at the thought of a repeat . He's straight, he's not sure why he's so flustered by the thought. At least with Cassie it makes sense. So yeah, he didn't sleep much. As for the rest of the team? Bart was practically vibrating straight through the floor. Robin was in and out of bed all night, pacing and murmuring and making last minute tweaks to the schedule. Being in the center, Robin's restlessness impacted all the rest of them. Cassie might've slept, Kon's not sure. He kept getting distracted by Bart and Robin.
When morning comes, they get ushered away from each other to get ready for their fights. They don't have any special outfits or armor and aside from Robin's bo staff, they aren't using weapons, but they're still given time to make necessary adjustments. Kon replaces some of the pins on his jacket with others from his collection to better fit the occasion and forgoes his sunglasses. The earrings he chooses are heart-shaped golden studs. He knows that they all got some pins and paint to customize their outfits slightly, but he's not entirely sure how each of them have decided to use that.
Kon doesn't have to wait long before being called out, only finishing his stretches a moment before the King's voice booms out about the start of the first fight. First up is Robin versus Kon, a fact he refuses to be nervous about. He's fought Robin before, obviously, and it's distressingly hard to actually pin him. Since pinning the opponent for five seconds is the win condition, he's just hoping that Kon himself is harder to pin.
The arena is pretty large, with the floor made up of pebbles and the occasional larger rock. There's even some really big rocks, going up far past even the tallest of the team. When his name is called, Kon walks to the center of the arena, stopping about five feet away from where Robin is waiting for him. On the way, he scans the crowd for the other two, giving a wink and a wave when he sees them watching.
When he arrives in front of Robin, he sees that his opponent has adjusted his cape— now painted so that the yellow edges also have red and blue stripes— to be asymmetrical with one side crossing over to the other at the front and slicked his hair back. He also added pins with each of their symbols at the clasp point. His bo staff, held loosely to his side, has four stripes of color— red, yellow, green, and blue— near the tip. Powers are allowed for the fight, so Robin got to keep his bo staff to make up for the lack of powers on his part whereas the rest of them have to do without any sort of weapon.
The two fighters greet each other with matching grins, going into fighting stances as the King counts them down.
"3"
Robin adjusts his grip on his bo staff.
"2"
Kon maps his surroundings with his TTK.
"1"
They both get ready to move.
" Fight! "
Immediately, Robin darts forward, barely dodging the spray of pebbles as Kon uses his TTK to try to trip his opponent. As he destabilizes the ground beneath Robin, he also darts towards him. He has to go an indirect route to duck and dodge Robin's bo, but he manages to close the gap fairly well.
Kon redirects his attention back fully to his own body— it's way harder than it looks to move and use his TTK to disrupt his surroundings at the same time— just in time to get a punch redirected by a clever twist of the bo staff. He ducks down to kick at Robin's legs in hopes of a pin being easier if he's already down and barely manages to roll when his movement disrupts the pebbles he'd just moved and he falls over. Robin also falls into a roll, though, so in a way Kon succeeded, even if now they're once again at a distance.
They get up at around the same time and Kon leaps forward once again because he can't really do much at range. This time, Robin holds his ground and just goes for a wider stance instead of a twist away. Kon punches, and Robin's barely too slow to block. If he hadn't reinforced his stance, he would've fallen to the ground. Unfortunately, he did, so instead Kon's wrist is hit a moment after his fist connects with Robin's chest and Kon spins with the motion, pulling back his fist and, by extension, his entire body. Robin continues the motion with his staff and Kon leans back to dodge the blow and then takes another step back to stabilize himself.
This time, Robin is the one to dart forward, pressing forward with a quick rotation of his bo staff to prepare it to press into Kon's chest. Kon backpedals fast, relying on his TTK to stabilize the ground under him even as he stumbles slightly. That's how he's alerted to the fact that they're approaching one of the larger rocks, a little to the left of behind him. He jumps backwards, grabbing onto it to get the height advantage without losing his ability to TTK the ground.
Robin takes a step back, bracing, presumably because the only real next step Kon could do is jump onto him. Points to him, because that's exactly what Kon does. Robin skids backwards with the force of Kon coming down on him, falling over and successfully getting pinned. He tries to get out, but his attempts to leverage pressure points to get Kon to release him fail because he goes for one of the points that humans have but half-Kryptonians don't.
Five seconds later, and the match is over. Kon gets up, offering a hand down to his teammate with a grin. Robin huffs, but accepts it.
The two of them walk together to the stands where they'll tag out and Cassie and Bart will go into the arena after a brief break for them to get ready and stretch. They apparently hadn't bothered to make their outfit modifications prior to going down for their fight, so Kon doesn't get to see what they decide to do until they come out to fight.
Cassie gets called out first. Her hair has been pulled into a braided bun rather than the typical pigtails. She painted some stripes and hearts on her shoulder pads and pinned each of their symbols on her jacket, but other than that her outfit is normal. Bart did even less to change his outfit, simply pulling his hair into a bun and doodling a bunch of hearts and stars on the white sections of his suit with the paints.
The King counts them down.
Right off the bat, Bart sprints in, not at top speed but certainly faster than a normal human can go. Cassie trips him with an easy sidestep and kick but he catches her just enough that she also goes down. Bart gets up first, faster, but his pin quickly falls through when she twists away.
Cassie manages to get away from the attempted pin, jumping and ending up floating a bit away. Bart darts forward to try to grab her from the sky, but she dodges and tries again to trip him. This time, it fails. Bart takes the opportunity to twist and try to knock her over. She's good at balancing, so this also fails, and they get trapped in a legitimate bit of hand-to-hand that Kon can't quite see from where he's sitting in the stands.
Eventually, they peel away from each other and start circling. Bart's faster, but that doesn't matter if he can't knock her over. Cassie, on the other hand, can trip Bart but has to somehow be fast enough to pin him before he can get up. The solution to both problems is, seemingly, the bigger rocks. It seems they gather that as well, because they both dart forward once again, trying to bait each other into facing away from the nearest big rock. They skid to a stop and turn to face each other again.
Cassie darts forward, seeing an opportunity in the boulder behind her opponent. Bart dodges just in time to avoid being pinned against it and manages to twirl around and turn the tides. In a blur, suddenly Cassie is the one pinned. Five seconds, and Bart wins. Kon cheers.
Next match is Kon versus Cassie, so he leaves the stands to wait to be called out into the arena— Bart was absolutely beaming when he came to switch with him. Now that they've all adjusted their outfits and stretched, the King only waits a minute or two before calling them out. Kon comes out first, then shortly after Cassie meets him in the middle.
"3"
"I heard you cheering when Bart won against me" Cassie casually mentions as they both fall into fighting stances.
"2"
"Oh?" Kon squeaks out.
"1"
"Yeah." Cassie gives a competitive grin, adjusting her footing slightly "Get ready to be beat for that"
" Fight! "
With that, the match starts. Kon darts in to punch Cassie, but she dodges with a twirl and raises up into the sky. She's clearly trying to bait him into midair combat, but Kon's not about to give up his TTK advantage, so all he does is back up, fortify his stance, and hope she goes for the pin.
She narrows her eyes at him, but does what he wanted and zooms in to try to knock him over. He stands his ground, but she doesn't touch the ground enough for him to trip so he tries to punch her again to trick her into landing. It works, and he uses his TTK to disrupt the ground under her feet, but she's stable enough to not fall. She sweeps in with a kick that almost makes him fall, but even through the next few exchanged hits they both stay standing.
Kon retreats, aware that his attempts aren't working. Cassie lets him and even stays on the ground. They rotate around each other for a another bit, looking for openings. They dart in at the same time, exchanging glancing blows but failing at making actual progress due to the simultaneous attack.
Using his TTK, Kon destabilizes the ground underneath Cassie as they both turn back towards each other. She stumbles and almost falls, but Kon doesn't reach her quite fast enough to use that to his advantage. She expertly dodges his attempts at toppling her in a way that makes him rotate, unsteady on his feet.
Kon huffs as Cassie once again backs up, but takes a step back as well. He startles as she lunges forward again, catching him off guard just enough to pin him.
Cassie grins down at him for the five seconds it takes to win and then helps him up. "I told you" She whispers in his ear as she yanks him up. Kon giggles nervously, and the two of them return to the stands to swap with Robin and Bart, the next pair to fight.
Robin enters first, then Bart. The King counts them down.
As soon as the match starts, Bart sprints forward, same as with his match against Cassie. He's a speedster, it's his nature to move first. Robin trips him with his bo and uses the momentary advantage to gain height, heading towards one of the nearby boulders.
Bart pouts but pushes forward, towards the boulder that Robin moved towards while Bart was down. Robin blocks Bart's flurry of blows with a twirl of his bo staff and then tries to poke Bart with it. Bart replies by dodging out of the way and darting forward again, clearly trying to corner his opponent.
Unfortunately for Bart, Robin doesn't get cornered, he just climbs up the rock, giving him the advantage once again. Bart darts away, probably not wanting to be ambushed from above the same way Kon won his match against Robin. It's only because of his super hearing that Kon hears Robin's responding snark, but he probably would've been able to tell regardless due to their body language.
Robin drops back down from the rock and barely dodges another attack from Bart. Darting in and out, Bart tries a solid five or so times to hit Robin, but his opponent simply dodges. Then, abruptly, Bart's pinned. It happened so fast that Kon's not entirely sure what happened, but if he had to guess Robin tripped Bart and pinned him before he could recuperate.
And five seconds later, Robin's declared the winner. Bart pouts but returns to the stands to switch with Cassie. Robin, meanwhile, goes back to the prep room. Next: Cassie versus Robin. Cassie comes out first, then Robin.
The King counts them down.
The match starts with a mutual rush, an exchange of blows. It's mesmerizing to watch, as someone who usually relies on strength rather than actual technique. It's like a dance.
They break off soon enough, though, and again, it seems like Robin's strategy is height. Before Cassie even has time to catch her breath, he's off running to the rocks. They weave around each other as they run, sharing glancing blows as Cassie tries to get in Robin's way.
Robin gets up high on the rock, and instead of backing away Cassie simply floats up. They tackle each other, ending up in a pile on the floor where neither's really pinning the other.
They wrestle on the ground for another few moments before Cassie comes up on top, pinning him. Kon's not sure if Cassie's win is a consequence of her powers or Robin having been part of the last match as well, but it doesn't really matter. She wins.
The two of them get up and switch out with Kon and Bart, who go to the prep rooms until they get called out. Kon gets called first, then Bart.
"3"
They get into fighting stances.
"2"
Bart stops vibrating for a millisecond.
"1"
Kon stretches out his TTK in preparation.
" Fight! "
Bart runs off at speed and Kon tries to keep up with his TTK disruptions, immediately failing to dodge due to his attempts. He escapes the resulting pin easily enough and rolls away to get back to a distance. Bart darts forward again, but this time Kon successfully dodges despite still trying for TTK sabotage.
Kon darts forward because Bart can't be the only one to go for offense, but Bart is fast enough that his attempts falls through quick. There's not a whole lot for Kon to do except try to trip Bart next time he charges.
Bart, of course, does charge again. The TTK gets him, but it's too far away for the fall to matter. They're close again, now, though, because Kon ran forward when he saw Bart trip, so maybe it'll work next time.
Bart stops running straight at Kon where it's easy to track him with TTK, instead moving in a curve that forces Kon to dodge and track at the same time. The speedster darts in and out in curving motions, too fast for Kon to entirely register. His TTK's too slow, and he keeps almost tripping himself.
Of course, right as he comes to that realization, he stops for a second too long and Bart pins him once again. This time, he doesn't get away, and the prerequisite five seconds pass. Bart wins. With that, the ceremonial fights are over.
They leave the arena to take showers and have a little bit of downtime before the actual ceremony. Of course, it's Young Justice, so they all filter into the same area for showers and set their clothes off to the side.
"Shoot, that's what I forgot" Robin says, lightly slapping his forehead right after glancing around.
Bart pops up behind him "What'dyouforget?"
Robin waves a hand dismissively "Spare outfits to change into after the showers so that we don't have to wear the same clothes we fought in"
"I could just clean them with my TTK?" Kon suggests.
Robin nods "Yeah, that's the plan. It would've been kind of nice to change them a bit for the actual ceremony, but oh well."
They filter into the showers.
It's not even noon by the time they all enter the castle gardens— decorated in red, yellow, green, and blue. They each come from a different side and can't see each other until they converge on the centerpiece: a raised pedestal surrounded by the guests except in the four directions Young Just Us approach from, which are marked by blue carpet. The first round of chairs around the pedestal are filled with the objects they chose to represent their families. Their outfits are only a bit fancier than the ones they wore for the fights— the only real differences are that Cassie switched out her pants for a blue skirt and Kon switched out his earrings for a dangly set. They each carry three small boxes.
There's not really an officiant— just the King in the audience calling out the officiant's lines— which Kon attributes to the fact that there's not exactly a place for one to stand. Side effect of there being four people getting married each coming from a different direction. Or maybe it's an alien thing; Kon didn't exactly ask .
It's only because they ran over the order of events so many times that Kon knows the vows come before the "I do" thing. Luckily, he's not first on the list to recite vows, that honor goes to Robin, who starts without any prompting after handing out the papers they each wrote containing their vows.
"I'd like to begin with a vow for all of you. Superboy, Wonder girl, Impulse," Robin starts, looking at each of his partners as he speaks to them— and also inadvertently reminding the other three that they're supposed to use hero names for these— "I vow to be by your sides through sickness, health, and tragedy. You're my team, my partners , my spouses , and I vow to never give up on understanding any of you, regardless of circumstance. I trust you all. The rest of my vows are a bit more person specific"
"Superboy, I promise to remind you of your progress, to remind of you of your positive traits, to remind myself that you do not intend to hurt. For your gift, I have a gold feather earring for you" Robin hands over the red box and Kon opens it, awed by the feather's beauty. He wishes he left one of his piercings open so that he could wear it but alas, he didn't. He'll put it on as soon as they move past the scripted portion.
Robin turns to the next on his list. "Wonder girl, I promise to try when you ask me to, to support you in your endeavors, to listen to you. For your gift, I have a silver feather bracelet for you" Robin hands over the blue box and Cassie puts on the bracelet with a grin.
Finally, Robin turns to Impulse. "Impulse, I promise to speed up when you need me to, to not overlook your contributions, to have fun by your side. For your gift, I have a copper feather necklace for you" Robin hands over the yellow box and Impulse vibrates in excitement at the sight of the necklace inside, putting it on with the use of a clasp on the back. All of the jewelry looks incredibly pretty.
With that, it's Kon's turn. He takes an intentional breath and, reading from his paper, says: "You all have stood by my side through good and bad. You've supported me way more than anyone else and shown me what it's like to live. I vow to support you all just as much. I vow to remind you that life's worth living, just as you all have for me. I've made origami flowers for my gifts to you all"
"I have a rose for Robin" He hands over the origami rose made out of green paper "I attached a clip to the back so—" Robin adjusts the pins at the clasp point so that he can clip the rose in the center "Yeah, there you go"
"Okay, and then I have an orchid for Wonder girl" Kon turns to Cassie and hands her an origami orchid made out of blue paper "They all have clips, just to be clear" Kon clarifies, helping Cassie clip her orchid into her hair.
Kon turns to his last teammate "And, finally, a daisy for Impulse" Bart grins at it, clipping his flower to his hair just like Cassie. Kon smiles dumbly at the sound of Bart's happy vibrations.
Kon returns to reading from his paper for the final few lines "We've had our hard bits and our arguments, but I have faith in us. Let's persevere. Thank you, and I love you all."
Next up is Cassie, who starts straight up with "I'm pretty sure that if someone told the me from when I first met you all that we'd get married, I wouldn't have believed you. Here we are, though, getting re-married on an alien planet" Cassie chuckles "I want to be there for you all. Actually, I promise to be there for you all. I will be here when you need me. I will help you no matter how hard you make it. With that out of the way, have some knives."
She gives a decorated knife to each of them "Sorry in advance for the knives not being top quality, I kind of had a time constraint. I tried my best! Uh, Robin, I gave you one with feathers and eyes because you're a bird and also a stalker. I thought it fit." Robin grins, holding the knife reverently.
"Superboy, I gave you one with geometric and sun patterns because you're half-Kryptonian and I thought it looked cool" She chuckles nervously even as Kon admires the knife, twisting it to see how it shines in the light.
Cassie relaxes just the tiniest bit at the good reception and turns to Bart "Impulse, yours has lightning and wind patterns. Speedster, and all that. Sorry that the patterns are kind of surface level, I'd like to reiterate the time constraint" As she says this, Bart's vibrating reaches volumes that start interfering with Cassie's speech.
She gives him a fond but reprimanding look, and he stills just enough for her to get through the final part of her vows "I appreciate you three so so much, and I'm once again sorry that I couldn't get better knives on such short notice."
Bart is the last to go, vibrating once again raising in volume but since he's the one speaking, it manages to highlight his words rather than bury them "I love you all. You're great. Best part of this century. I promise to come if you call! I promise to show you all the things! I love it when you all show me things! Thank you, love you! I promise to care about you all forever and ever!"
Bart blurs a bit as he vibrates, handing out little boxes to each of them "Robin gets obsidian ! It's black and shiny and just like him!" Robin looks down at the rock he was handed with a blush.
Kon opens his to see a speckled red crystal "For Superboy I got a red sunstone ! It's red, which I wanted, and it's called a sun stone! You photosynthesize, so sun!"
Finally, Bart addresses Cassie "Wonder girl, I got you a spotted jade! I know we had like, color coordination and stuff so that you'd be blue but I think you deserve a green rock! And it's spotted! I think it's really pretty, just like you!"
To end his section, he looks at them with big wide eyes and says: "It's always been just us, and even if we gain more supports we will still be just us." Bart snickers and Robin elbows him "Young, just us. Anyway, yeah, I love you!!!"
The King calls out to each of them to ask if they take the other three as spouses on this planet as well and they each say "I do". Only after he goes through that does he call out "You four are now, by the power vested in me, married on this planet! You may now kiss!" The crowd cheers.
The first one Kon kisses is Cassie. They discussed the order they were going to kiss in previously and decided to arrange it so that they kiss the people they've kissed previously first. While Kon did kiss Bart earlier that week as 'practice'— he's blushing just thinking about it— between Robin having never kissed Cassie but having kissed Bart and the fact Kon has kissed Cassie multiple times, it wasn't hard to decide to kiss Cassie first.
Kissing Cassie is, of course, enjoyable. It's also comforting, because he knows this, he knows how to kiss her. In such a foreign situation, he finds solace in that. It's a bit like wrestling, actually, if that makes any sense. They take turns in the lead, pushing into each other in short intervals. It's a short but exciting kiss, like the ceremonial fights from earlier in the day. Kon slides his TTK over her body, feeling her every little movement. It's comfort. And then it's over. Kon pulls back, retracting his TTK with a smile.
The next person he kisses is Bart. Kissing Bart, in contrast, is like candy. They giggle into each other, Bart leaning forward into Kon and providing a soft buzz against his skin. Kissing Bart is kind of tickly, because the speedster is vibrating as he pushes forward, slow yet fast. Kon can't help but close his eyes, embracing the other. This time, he doesn't reach out with his TTK, because Bart is motion and he'd rather just feel the soft buzz from regular contact than from the extension of his powers. It's over far too fast and yet he still can't help but grin, giggles spilling out without his input.
Last but not least, Robin. The only one he doesn't know the ID of, the only one he hasn't kissed. Kon's already all warm in anticipation. They meet off to the side of the podium with an impact. After a token protest, Robin melts into him and lets Kon lead. His kissing is much more mechanical than the other two, but it's also comforting in it's own way, like a formulaic TV show. Kon holds his teammate with TTK and arms alike, melting in a way he couldn't with the others. Once again, Kon mourns the contact when it's over.
They all pull away from their kisses and, hand in hand, exit the pedestal to get to the rest of the wedding. The guests trickle out and they move to a different section of the gardens for the post-ceremony celebrations.
The rest of the day is filled with a variety of games, foods, and activities. Robin didn't bring the edibility tester to the actual wedding, which was clearly a mistake because Kon's fairly certain he accidentally got drunk on alien food and drink. They only ate foods that were previously deemed safe— at least Kon thinks they did?— but the King got them from different venders than Young Justice did, so.
On the plus side, they managed to not destroy anything too bad despite the intoxication. Also, Kon got several more kisses from his teammates, even if he doesn't remember them as well. That's definitely a plus.
Kon engraves the wedding into his memory because he's just such a normal guy.
Notes:
for the record the vows were a million times harder to write than the fight scenes but also the fight scenes took longer. probably because the fight scenes were longer than (more than double the length of) the vows.
pretend i know anything about any of the things in this chapter pls <3
as promised, i shall now reveal how the people will discover the marriage next chapter! the answer is: post-brucequest, through the files from the planet they got married on being put onto the interstellar systems and having that be discovered when they actually have an official space mission for once.
let's hope and pray next chapter is easier than this one, because i have even less written so i have to write pretty much the entire chapter in a week!
Chapter 4: What We Tell Our Families - Retold by Cassie
Summary:
(Nothing. The answer is nothing.)
Notes:
sorry in advance for the lack of actual reactions on the chapter that was supposed to be reactions i forgot how little i know about the people who aren't young justice or the batfam prior to actually writing this and i had already long since committed to it being a cassie pov chapter and it seemed kind of awkward to have her just be narrating batfamily reactions so i just didn't include any past batman.
on another note, the past three chapters have been more or less canon compliant. this chapter i toss canon into a dumpster and then set it on fire.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
A bit embarrassingly, Cassie kind of forgot about the marriage up until everyone knew about it. In her defense, They tried not to mention it much even when they were alone because it only takes one missed bug for the entire hero community to find out and they are trying to keep this hidden.
And, well. She remembered to keep her wedding gifts on her at all times. She remembered that she cared about them. She remembered what it was like to kiss them, even when they were gone. She remembered that she loved them.
But, maybe, when she heard that the JL was going to work to interface an intergalactic network with some of the friendlier planets, she didn't remember to be worried about them discovering the marriage.
Maybe, possibly, she was too busy being worried about their other unofficial space missions being discovered. To be fair, she also had to be worried about that, and she will probably go back to being worried about that once she's no longer dealing with the Consequences of hiding your marriage. Their other missions apparently weren't relevant enough to be put into the systems in the initial launch, but the King that officiated their wedding 'kindly' provided their marriage documents, because obviously they would want them. Little did he know, this was the exact opposite of something that the four of them would want. Because, you see, as far as the documents are concerned? The marriage was real . And, unlike Cassie and her partners, the JL don't know better. And they have her mom's contact information.
In other words, they're Screwed.

"Okay so I know we established that we're not telling any adults but" Kon starts "What about the rest of Young Just Us?"
"UHhhh" Cassie winces "Probably? As in, we should probably tell them?"
Bart buzzes "Sure! Maybe! I don't think they'd tell!"
Hesitantly, Robin speaks up "I don't know, what if someone listens in while we tell them? I'd rather just pretend this never happened"
Bart rolls his eyes "They're going to find out eventually, you know"
"I know" Robin admits "I'm just hoping they find out after it stops being my problem"
Kon squints at him "Are you saying you hope they figure out after you die? " he asks incredulously.
"Yes" Robin replies shamelessly. Cassie covers her mouth to hide her snickers.
Kon shakes his head "I, personally, hope not. I mean, I don't want them to misunderstand it and have it completely wreck my reputation when I can't affect it myself anymore, you know?"
Robin shrugs "Not really. What they think about me after I'm dead is strictly Not My Problem."
"I don't really care either way!" Bart contributes with a smile, and they all turn to Cassie with the unspoken question.
She shifts a bit, unsure. On one hand, she understands Kon's point, and she's likewise concerned about her reputation. On the other, she really doesn't want to explain this. "I don't know" she finally says "Maybe if I outlive my mom"
Robin gives her a smile that makes her realize he understands what she means. That he relates to that. She's so thrown by the reminder of Robin's family life that she almost misses Bart's summary.
"So, basically, we have free reign to reveal it if Robin's dead and either Cassie or Cassie's mom is?" Bart chirps, tilting his head.
Robin snorts "If you're all up to that"
Cassie grimaces "Maybe settle for me and my mom, actually. If one of you is there, I don't have to worry about my reputation being mishandled."
"Fair point" Kon concedes "So, before all of us are dead, but after Tim, Cassie, and Cassie's mom have?"
Bart gives a thumbs up "Sounds good to me!"
"What if that's not possible, though?" Cassie worries "What if you two die first?"
Kon shudders "I don't know. I don't think that's likely though. I mean, I'm mostly invulnerable"
Robin grimaces, but shakes his head "Don't say that, you'll jinx it. I'll… I will suffer through explaining things if I'm the last one left. For you all."
Cassie nods "Yeah, me too. If I'm last, I'll explain."
Kon tears up a bit and pulls them all into a hug.
Of course, the hug only lasts for a few moments before the ship loudly announces that it needs a pilot again via an alarm. Robin extracts himself and gets back to flying, ending the conversation abruptly.
*****
Cassie's day was pretty normal up until her mom called. Of course, her mom calling isn't actually all that unusual. Unlike most heroes, Cassie actually has a fairly good relationship with her mom. It's not perfect , not by a long shot, but it's normal . She doesn't have a tragic backstory. Unless, of course, you count the stuff that happened on the job— but she doesn't. Why should she? Heroism isn't exactly a Backstory. That's just the Story, plain and simple.
Anyway, back to her point. Cassie's mom calling her isn't unusual, so Cassie thought nothing of it until she picked up the phone and the first sentence out of her mother's mouth was:
"Why didn't you tell me you got married? "
Cassie stared dumbfoundedly at her phone, rapidly remembering that she did, in fact, get married.
"How did you hear that? " Cassie asked, still gaping, not confirming but also not denying.
"Wonder Woman asked me about it" Her mom snipped "Apparently you didn't tell her either"
Cassie blinked rapidly, gears turning in her head. Oh . The intergalactic network . She cursed under her breath, and then spoke again to her mother, voice honey sweet "I think there's been a misunderstanding"
"Don't deny it, Cassie" Her mom sounded exasperated "She showed me documents . And pictures ."
"Okay, well" Cassie said, floundering "I don't know what to tell you. It's not what it looks like."
"Yeah right" Her mom scoffed. Cassie, unthinkingly, hung up.
Oh no.
Actually, what the heck?
Why did the Justice League ask her mom? Do they actually trust Cassie so little that they asked her mom and not her? She swore, if they did the same thing to— Actually, it might've be worse if she was the only one of the four that wasn't contacted directly. She wasn't sure which one she was hoping for. She's an adult. All four of them were. Did the Justice League seriously not remember that? Their parents weren't in charge of them. They weren't even in charge of them before, when they were actually kids. She fumed. She knew the JL still hadn't came to terms with her and her team's newfound adulthood, but she didn't think they'd go this low.
She messaged the Young Justice core 4 group chat. It's about time they revisited their contingencies for the marriage being discovered.
*****
"Byeeeee!" Bart yells, waving widely from his perch by the entrance to the ship. Cassie floats a little bit behind Bart, but still sees the amused grin Kon sports from where he's bridal carrying Robin beside Bart. Robin's the slowest of them, so Kon picked him up rather than watching him trail behind.
They didn't get as much space flight training as they had been hoping due to their pit stop to get married, but that's okay. They can always come back another time– they even asked Doiby this time and he agreed— and hopefully next time this lesson will make it so that they don't have a repeat performance.
Cassie snickers to herself at the thought. Imagine they had to get married again because they crashed on their way to their second spaceship lesson. Of course, simply dying or something is far more likely than that, but still. Funny image.
"I call pilot!" Bart chirps as soon as they all get inside the ship, darting towards the cockpit. Robin falls out of Kon's arms in his hurry to intercept him.
"Bart no!" Robin calls desperately "Please, you crashed our practice ship like seven times! you were only pilot for two days! "
Maniacal cackling is Bart's only response to that. Cassie sighs and flies over, intercepting him before he can turn on the ship "Robin has a point, y'know"
Bart pouts but doesn't phase out of her hold so Cassie counts that as a win. The other two catch up quickly.
"Robin's not allowed to fly us back" Bart declares, sticking his finger towards the other boy "It's no fair if he gets to fly us to and from Myrg!"
Robin scowls, crossing his arms, but Kon nods to back up Bart's insistence and Cassie admits that she thinks its fairer that way.
"Well, then, Kon, Cassie, get deciding." Robin sniffs judgmentally "It's between you two if both Bart and I are off limits"
Cassie and Kon share a panicked look, unsure how to decide.
"Cassie won the ceremonial fight between you two" Bart reminds them before long "She should pilot as a reward"
Reluctantly, the rest of them agree.

orchid: my mom just called saying the JL asked her about our marriage?
rose: oh no
rose: not heard a/thing but n/a change

florist: I haven't heard anything either
At this point, Cassie rapidly remembered that the other three's parents are all members of the Justice League.
daisy: 🚀💐❓
orchid: sounds like a plan to me
rose: y
florist: omw
daisy: 🎉‼️
Cassie turned the phone off and tossed it onto the counter. She didn't want to be the one to reveal to the JL that they have a spaceship just because she forgot to ditch her phone— and by extension her tracker— before flying off to the ship. Speaking of trackers, she double checked that she didn't have any trackers on her as she put on her shoes and grabbed a few essentials. While there were two trackers she found that transmit to people she was trying to avoid, the vast majority were from others in Young Justice— three were from Tim, one from Kon, and ten from Bart. She let those stay. It's not like she hadn't snuck trackers on the other three herself. She was just glad they made their trackers distinctive enough for her to be able to differentiate them from the JL's trackers— it'd be rather annoying to have to remove all the trackers just because they couldn't be bothered to be a little creative.
With that, she was free to fly over to their most recent hiding spot for Bart's spaceship. Honestly, they weren't trying that hard to hide it, but they're still fairly certain the JL doesn't even know they have it. Maybe if they actually cared to pay attention to the four of them, they would know. But they didn't. Really, this was their own fault.
Cassie arrived at the ship and inputted all the necessary codes and checks to get in. Only Bart was there when she entered, but pretty soon the other two also joined them.
After a moment of exchanging snacks, as is tradition for core four meetups, the three boys looked to Cassie for a more in depth explanation of what happened. Cassie shrugged. "She said the JL had documents and pictures, so I'm assuming the King uploaded all the original wedding stuff onto that new intergalactic network and someone noticed and pointed it out"
Tim nodded "Sounds likely, how much do you think they know?"
Cassie shifted uncomfortably "I don't know. I didn't even know there were photos"
"I did" Tim admitted "I noticed some cameras while trying to sneak in shots of my own"
Bart vibrated worriedly "So there's no way we can deny it?"
"Now I didn't say that" Tim snickered "We could totally gaslight them into thinking the images were deepfaked or something"
"But is that our best option?" Kon asked "I mean, are we absolutely sure that lying now won't backfire on us later on?"
Tim hesitated "I guess that depends on what exactly they have"
"When my mom asked, I said 'it's not what it looks like'" Cassie offered "We should probably factor that into our decision"
"We should" Tim agreed, and then hacked into the Watchtower.
*****
Cassie and Tim lean into each other, lips locked. The kiss was salty with their mutual tears. Tim's forehead bumps against Cassie's as he softly bites her lower lip. The two lovers wrap around each other in a desperate embrace, rain pouring over where they stand in a thematically-appropriate location. Everything's wrong.
Discomfort rattles up Cassie's spine and she discontentedly pulls away, whining as she fails to grasp exactly why this kiss is so much worse than all their previous ones. Tim shudders, but rather than trying to restart the kiss he just curls into her chest with a sob. Is there really something so wrong about being with Tim romantically? Is a platonic kiss— wait.
Oh shoot.
Cassie chokes on a laugh-sob. Gods, they're such idiots. Tim shifts a bit in her embrace to poke his head out with a confused "Mmph?"
Even in the cold rain, warmth rushes to her face. "We're dumb" she informs him, letting out a breathless giggle at the disgruntled look on his face that twists into a sob "Gods, none of that was platonic at all, was it?"
Tim looks confused for a few seconds before visibly shuttering in realization "Oh."
"Oh" she agrees, nodding "And now they're dead"
Tim shudders "And now they're dead" he agrees.
*****
Cassie, Kon, and Bart crowded around Tim's screen as he expertly slipped past the Watchtower's digital defenses and flicked through the feeds until he found where the JL was having its discussion about their discoveries. They only heard "—Can't believe they didn't trust us—" from Superman before Tim reversed the timestamp on the footage to see how it started.
Before letting the footage play out, Tim instructed the other three "We can discuss after we're caught up, I don't want to miss anything" The other three gave quick nods.
Tim hit play and "Uh, guys?" filtered out of the computer.
On screen, Batman grunted and the other two heroes in the room— Wonder Woman and Superman— turned to see what Green Lantern was looking at.
"Since when were... Robin, Superboy, Impulse, and Wonder girl married?"
Batman actually turns to pay attention at that "They're not."
"Well, there's a document here clearly saying that they are" Green Lantern said, baffled and gesturing to the computer "from the intergalactic network"
Tim pulled up the mentioned documents and placed them off to the side.
Superman frowned "That doesn't make sense to lie about"
Batman grunted again. Wonder Woman leaned in to look, also frowning. "If it's real, why would they not tell us? "
"I don't know" Superman said, looking lost "I thought they trusted us"
Unable to help themselves, Young Justice snorted in unison.
"When was this?" Batman asked, and the quartet exchanged baffled glances as they got a look at his body language and realize that he seemed to be actually believing the document. The hell?
"Four years ago" Green Lantern replied, looking through the files "That would be Robin III, wouldn't it?"
Batman grunted in affirmation "Green Lantern, look into the one who submitted those files. Superman, Wonder Woman, ask around to see if they mentioned this to anyone else. Don't ask them directly just yet, if they haven't told us already they're unlikely to tell us now and it would give them time to hide the evidence if they really are hiding getting married"
"Okay" Tim swallowed, pausing the video "I think we've seen enough. That's what they know"
"I can't believe they believed the documents just like that" Bart buzzed angrily "At least do the source research first instead of asking people we know!"
Tim nodded in agreement "Exactly! It was a really dumb plan that was bound to give us a heads up even if Cassie's mom hadn't called her to ask about it"
"They barely even questioned our motives for hiding it" Kon added scathingly "I kind of want to chew them out for that even though we did actually get married and hide it"
"It was dumb of them, even if they accidentally got it halfway right" Cassie agreed, nodding.
They snickered together for a moment, sharing snacks. "So?" Tim asked the group "What are we thinking? Tell them? Not?"
"We should definitely tell them" Cassie admitted "We could disprove the evidence they have, but they know who to ask if they doubt us and I don't particularly want to go through this again if they do. Still, it would be incredibly funny if we made them think it was all fake"
Kon snickered, but Bart's the one to suggest "What if we gaslit them, got them all to believe it was fake, and then just as they're about to leave we're like 'anyway so yeah we did actually get married on this alien planet that was all just to see if you would believe us'?"
"Honestly" Tim said "I'm up for that. I don't even care that they'd be less likely to believe the stuff we say afterwards, it's not like they listen to us anyway"
"Vote?" Cassie asked, raising her hand in support. The other three do the same. "Alright. Let's go gaslight the Justice League"
They cheer, laughing a bit.

It takes an annoyingly long time for all four of them to get into a room together with just the four of them again after Bart and Kon get back from being dead and Tim gets back from chasing after his not-dead mentor— and yes, Cassie's aware that the aforementioned not-dead mentor had adopted Tim prior to not-dying, but Bruce doesn't actually deserve Tim as a son, so she's ignoring that. He's a bad mentor and a mediocre dad and Cassie has zero respect for him. Admittedly, part of her taken aback refusal to hear Tim out when he declared that the guy was alive was that same disdain, because how dare he still be such a prominent figure in Tim's life that her teammate was adamant at his continued living? How dare he, when the same denial did not coat Tim's lips for their other teammates, their not-lovers? Cassie knows now that it was less a matter of importance and more of a matter of plain fact, that Bruce really was alive, but she still feels a little hurt. She's aware that he feels much the same in regards to her disbelief. Their first conversation, afterwards, was incredibly awkward, but she apologized and they figured it out.
Their first conversation as the four of them, afterwards, is arranged over the course of two months. While Kon and Bart have yet to settle into very many tasks, Tim has been frustratingly busy ever since he had to take on the position of Wayne Enterprises CEO— not helped by his attempts to get back into vigilantism in Gotham— and Cassie is still a full-time hero. With time, though, Tim is able to step back a bit from Wayne Enterprises and take a day to meet with the other three.
Surprisingly, it seems like no one found the spaceship while Bart was dead so with a quick reminder from Bart, they're able to meet up there. Cassie grins at the customized interior. She missed this.
"Cassie!" Bart cheers, hugging her just barely slow enough for her to not get hurt and then dragging her into the common area where they had previously set up a TV for binge watching. Excluding Bart, she's the first one here, but it's not long before the other two show up.
They chatter about miscellaneous topics for a while, catching up and getting back into the flow of knowing each other. Cassie grins at the easy camaraderie, like none of them ever left.
At some point, Cassie and Tim lock eyes and remember the day they realized that they didn't know how to be together romantically because they were used to the other two being there too. Tim gives her a smile that spells trouble and goes "Hey Kon, Bart?"
The two of them make acknowledgement sounds and Tim's smile grows, not looking away from Cassie "Do you know what polyamory is?"

About an hour after they finished strategy discussions, they found themselves at the presentation board in the Watchtower meeting room with a speedran powerpoint behind them. As team leader— despite the team having been disbanded, technically, but who cares about that — and the only one who was actually told about this discovery, Cassie took the lead on speaking.
The first slide of the powerpoint was a horrifically ugly title slide with the title 'about the alleged alien planet marriage 💍👽' and with each of their names— in different fonts, of course— underneath it as 'authors'
"Apparently people think we got married on an alien planet four years ago" Cassie began, the second slide— the phrase 'DID NOT HAPPEN' in black over top a black backdrop that routinely flashed red— coming up behind her "We did not"
The third slide was all the evidence the JL has access to in an intentionally poorly designed composition, with the red-colored heading 'THE 'EVIDENCE'' going from slightly left of the center to about an inch from the right ledge, partially cut off at the top, and overlapping several parts of the evidence. "Your evidence that this really happened is photos and a marriage document" Cassie continued "As if this sort of evidence is not easily faked. This marriage document doesn't even have our signatures, it only has our printed names. The photos could be shapeshifters, cosplayers, or editing. You all didn't even stop to think why and how we were on that alien planet at that time, even though we had no space missions during that time period, and you have access to those files so you should know that ."
Cassie leveled a disappointed look at the Justice League, the boys clicking to the next slide in the background. It contained screen captures of their faces as they saw the document, with the big bold text 'WE ARE DISAPPOINTED IN YOU' right in the center. "And yet, you all believed it. Without question. And then, you had the gall to not research more or, I don't know, ask us about it, but instead call my mom. Why in the world would my mom know if you all didn't? And if she did, why would she tell you? Seriously, what was going through your brains when you did that?"
The Justice League shuffled uncomfortably but didn't respond.
Cassie sighed "Contrary to popular belief, you can just ask us if you find something concerning us. I'm not going to guarantee that we'd be telling the truth, but going through someone else isn't going to magically be more reliable in that department."
They linger on this slide for a moment longer, silently staring at the older heroes, allowing the Justice League to soak up their disappointment.
The boys broke their convincing disappointment to snicker as they switch to another slide. This one had one of the pictures Tim took during the wedding and the text 'LOL SIKE' in neon red comic sans.
Cassie cackled at the bafflement on the Justice League's faces. "That's right! We actually did get married on an alien planet four years ago!"
Immediately, the Leaguers began clamoring to ask questions, but with a glare and the next slide— a duplicate of the 'DID NOT HAPPEN' slide with the text replaced with 'SHUT UP AND LISTEN'— the four of them managed to quiet the attempts.
The next slide read 'WE'RE STILL DISAPPOINTED IN YOU 👎' over top the same reaction faces as before. "We stand by every single thing we said during the first half of this slideshow" Cassie clarified "The only lie was that we didn't get married. Yes, that includes the line about not having any space missions at the time. No, we will not elaborate on that."
The Justice League's faces at that were absolutely hilarious and she was so glad that between the regular cameras and the ones Tim placed while they were setting up, they'll have plenty of photos of this to look upon fondly later.
"Anyway, clarification time!" Cassie clapped her hands together as the slide changed to a black and white abomination of fonts with a list of questions. She pointed to each as she addressed them "Clarification One! Why did we get married on an alien planet?"
Bart chimed in on this one, as they planned "The King insisted that he owed us a favor and that favor ended up being the wedding"
"Clarification Two! Why didn't we tell anyone?"
"It was an accident" Kon shrugged "and we didn't feel like it"
"Clarification Three! Are we actually together then?"
"Yes" Tim cut in "But we weren't at the time"
Cassie looked at the boys "Is that all we wanted to say?"
"Yes" "Yep" Bart gave a thumbs up.
Cassie grinned and then turned back to the audience "That's all!" the powerpoint transitioned to the final slide, a collage of the evidence once again but this time with Tim's pictures added in and the text 'thank you for coming' in yellow, red, green, and blue.
"We will be accepting no further questions" Young Justice chimes in unison, packs up, and leaves.
Notes:
LETS GO IT'S DOOOOONE!!!!!!
this is genuinely my first time actually finishing a multichapter fic. i will probably make more of them but don't expect weekly updates on the next one i managed but like i am NOT built for focusing on a single project for any extended period of time.
speaking of, also don't expect me to write more for this universe! i'll answer questions in the comments, probably, but if you want more in this verse just write it yourself or smth i have like 5 other projects i want to get to. some of those projects are also young justice core 4 centric and drawing from the same over-7k-word-long headcanon document, so look forward to those, i guess. assuming that's what my brain latches onto after this, that is. we'll see ig.
sorry to that one person who i told "we'll see" regarding steph's reaction like i said in the start notes it was cassie pov and my attempts at imagining it were extremely awkward.
tysm for all the support btw, it rlly helped me convince my brain to keep writing even when it drifted off to other concepts! (that was a really big problem for these last two chapters, i wrote them both in the last like 2-3 days before posting them while not actually being in the mood to write them but its fiiine i wasn't late so who cares) i'd absolutely love if ppl pointed out specific lines or writing choices (such as my attempts to differentiate the writing style between each pov/chapter) they liked but ofc y'all don't have to.
