Chapter Text
Ex had a headache that pounded into his skull. That probably wasn’t even real, he wasn’t real just a clone. The morning in the factory was cold, his suit of armor trapping the bit of heat around him.
Helpful. But not.
He wonders where Hels went? After the attack, he was gone. Adonedemd ship wasn’t it? He was left behind. Not that he cared. No, he didn’t care. Nothing about him cared about what was going on. He didn’t care. So why was his heart pounding? And his head was screaming.
It wasn’t fair, he didn’t ask for any of this to happen. Nothing was fair, was it? The Watcher lady had always said things were never fair, not in the most gentle voice. He swears every time he fails his yelled cruelly at.
Like a pet doing something wrong, and then the owner yelling at them. In this case, it was the watcher and Ex.
The door wooshes open, and people walk in. Mostly scientists. They wore white lab coats that went down to their knees. It must be nice being the original. Not that any player was the original. Cruel people run this factory and they take lives.
Ex wishes he didn’t know any of this, it wasn’t fair. Fair, he keeps coming back to that word strangely enough? He shakes his head, wanting every thought to leave. There was a reason to be cold-hearted, it was a coping thing. He was just copying what he saw everyone else do.
The scientists whisper among themselves as no one in the world could hear them.
“Did you hear?”
“Hear what?
“Her. She is coming to create more.”
“More? Already?”
“Yes,”
“Even if she already has one that's worthless?”
“Isn’t the next one going to be just as worthless?”
Their voices are low, they whisper, they mutter, full of fear and amusement. Maybe anger? Ex wasn’t sure what was going on.
“Even after that battle?”
“She lost, didn't she?”
“So many died,”
“I heard one betrayed her joining ht players,”
“Many have done that already,”
“I know, but one of her own creation?”
“Will the other betray her?”
Will the other betray her, will the other betray her? Those words attacked Ex's mind like a hive. He was the other? Was he going to betray her?
Maybe a part of him would.
“I don’t know, but if he does we can always make more,”
He is so replaceable.
So useless.
So worthless.
So nothing.
“Based on the others?”
“Yeah, the others are easier to make. They don’t have that armor."
“Seriously, how did that admin wear that armor?”
“I thought it was because he needed it for his hybrid traits,”
“Hybrid traits?”
“He some sort of voidwalker, wasn’t he?”
“I have no idea what those are.”
“Another useless hybrid with some sort of difference in them or something,”
“Why do the Watchers find hybrids and not normal people?”
“We aren't that normal either,”
“I guess not,”
They whisper Ex can hear every word. But he wishes he didn’t.
He doesn’t want to listen anymore.
