Chapter 1: Surprise
Chapter Text
The night was cold, the gentle breeze pushing whatever snow that rested on the roofs of the rundown and lifeless homes. Winter had made its presence known within the United Kingdom, recently London.
Ogre Street was one of the worst places to be during this season, the early darkness and late daylight fueled petty muggings and killings. If that wasn’t enough to make any normal person want to avoid this street. No homes amongst the area were built to truly survive in the winter.
It was cold.
It was dangerous.
It was home.
Speedwagon had lived there for as long as he could remember. Well happily remember. He was stuck at an orphanage until he was eight, only then did he decide to run away and start his own life. Being taken in by other thugs, he was raised to continue their legacies of crime.
Now he didn’t even follow this life of crime!
It always struck him as odd that the moment he laid eyes on Jonathan that he wanted to change himself for the better. No more than a kick in the face was enough to nail this idea into his head.
He was truly enamored by the man and was willing to do anything for him, even follow him to hell and back. Then that’s what happened. It was like the Devil himself was after Jonathan Joestar! Only thing was that he took the form of Dio Brando, Jonathan’s adoptive brother.
It was a story Speedwagon often repeated to himself, or to anyone who would bother to listen to him.
Yet he was still stuck here, in Ogre Street, on the other side of the world from Jonathan. Speedwagon was alone now, he no longer prided himself with whatever gang of thugs that respected him enough to let him take charge. He felt outcast by the people who raised or were raised with him.
He felt like he was stranded on an island but he wasn’t going to let himself lose hope. Everyday for the past few weeks, Speedwagon had found himself heading to any establishment in London who were hiring.
This… This was going extremely terribly. He rarely even got to talk to the owners, he was usually just kicked out for his thuggish appearance. There was only so much he could do to stop himself from looking like a petty criminal but it was never enough. He knew it was the scar and the long and unruly hair he refused to cut.
Too thuggish for the posh and too posh for the thuggish.
It was a vicious cycle that Speedwagon was stuck in, still hopeful for change but truthfully he feared that change would never come to be.
Another day, another failed attempt. Speedwagon walked through the street, holding his coat closed to try and keep himself warm from the frigid winds. Every sense in his body felt heightened as he walked down the street, in every alley could be somebody waiting to attack.
It wasn’t new, he used to be one of those people as well, hiding and waiting for unsuspecting victims to stumble down the street. Tonight, he felt like he would be a victim.
Everything in his gut was telling him that he was being watched. Somebody was preying on him, waiting for him to let his guard down.
Moving his free hand down, he reached for his dagger. Gripping the handle of it as he began to pace his steps to make less noise. He carefully listened for steps behind him, trying to ready himself for a fight.
The wind whistled softly before Speedwagon stopped walking, turning behind him to see.. Nothing. Nobody was there. He felt a sense of relief, turning back to where he was heading.
“Hello.”
Speedwagon couldn’t help but yelp and stumble back. Standing there was Dio? He was staring at a ghost! It had to be, he saw the man die! Quickly taking out his blade he pointed it at Dio. “Stay back!”
Dio grinned, seeing the smaller man’s terror at the sight of him. He wasn’t in perfect shape, Dio was still burnt from the hamon Jonathan used on the other. “Are you not happy to see me? I’m rather pleased to have finally found you.” He spoke.
It was like a snake. That’s all Dio sounded like to Speedwagon. He kept his focus on Dio, not letting himself let his guard down at this moment. “Pleased to have found me!?” He repeated, “What are you planning to do to me!?”
Dio took a step towards the other. The two of them knew fully well that one clearly stood no chance against the other, and it wasn’t Dio. “Nothing! Well, let’s say it depends.” He said cruelly before grabbing Speedwagon by the wrist, preventing the other from trying to stab him. “I need your help.”
His heart stopped, realizing that he was stuck now. Speedwagon stared up at Dio, his eyes full of anger and fear. “I would never help you!” He yelled.
“I expected you to say that.” Dio said, before taking the other’s knife away before letting go. “I have no intention to harm you, rather I want you to help me change for the better.”
“What?”
The two stood in silence. Speedwagon was confused, well actually incredibly suspicious about the situation. Dio was the spawn of the devil, why would he want Speedwagon’s help to change? This was a scam! Some evil plot to let his guard down and kill him!
“Don’t make me sad, Robert.” Dio continued, he was teasing the other. Grinning at the other’s confusion. “Who else could I go to? I have nobody!” He whined, “Oh and Jojo is off to who knows where…”
Speedwagon stared at the other. The mention of Jonathan made Speedwagon worry more, finally giving him the confidence to snap back. “Don’t treat me like an idiot! I know this is a facade! An act of yours! I’ve seen it all before.”
Dio couldn’t help but frown as he crossed his arms. Holding the other’s knife between his fingers. “I thought you WANTED to be a better person.” He shook his head, letting out a soft ‘tsk’ with every shake. “I suppose I thought too highly of you..”
“I am a better person! A far better person than you!” Speedwagon yelled, he tried to keep a menacing stance, but it really didn’t do much. Dio was a foot taller than Speedwagon and far stronger. He looked away for a moment as he realized this, looking back up at Dio he continued. “Give me one reason to trust you.”
The other’s frown quickly changed back into a cruel smile as Speedwagon asked the question. “Well, if you do help me, I’d be willing to help you get some change.” Dio spoke, “I’m fully aware of your struggle with finding a job.”
Speedwagon tensed hearing that, before he retorted. “That isn’t a reason for me to trust you!”
“Is it not?” Dio asked mockingly, he laughed at the other’s suspicions. “We were both raised by scum, Robert. You manage to find good in yourself and I can’t… So why wouldn’t I come to you? We’re like two peas in a pod.”
Speedwagon was silent. Dio was right, the two were raised by scum, well until Dio left. It was risky, but if the other was genuine he could get the help he needed. Then if the other wasn’t he’d be dead. He took a deep breath, before he nodded, “Fine. I’ll help. Just no funny business!” He yelled, before quickly grabbing the other’s shirt collar as he pulled Dio closer. “Don’t ever think that we’re the same. Ever.” He soon let go, taking his knife as he pushed past the other.
Dio began to follow the other, not bothered that the other took the knife back. “Sounds like a deal to me.”
“Why are you following me?” Speedwagon asked, turning his head towards the other as he walked.
“Well, I assume since you agreed to help, I could stay with you. Keep you company with all your struggles.” Dio responded, intercrossing his fingers as he smiled.
Speedwagon turned back to where he was walking. Now beginning to regret agreeing to help the other. “Fine! Sure!” He yelled, he felt annoyed about this but what could he do?
Dio caught up with Speedwagon, now walking next to the other. “Great.. I’m pleased we’ve come to an agreement.”
‘Agreement my ass.’ Speedwagon thought to himself, not bothering to give Dio a response. He wanted to keep his distance from the other, as well as he could. It didn’t mean much since Dio was now coming home with him.
The two made their way to a small home near the edge of the street. It was just as rundown as every other home. “Here. You still WANT to stay here?” Speedwagon asked, turning to Dio as he pointed to the house.
Dio stared in disgust at the home, glancing down at Speedwagon as he slowly looked back. “I.. Do.” he said, pained to agree to stay in such a terrible looking place. “I hope it’s nicer on the inside.”
“It’s not.” Speedwagon said, opening the front door and walking inside, leaving the door open for Dio to join him. He wasn’t lying, it wasn’t much better inside. It was a small two room home, a dusty and beaten couch standing in the middle of the room. There was a small kitchen as well along the wall, but it wasn’t much. “You stay here, in this room.”
Dio closed the door, looking around the house before he squinted, taking a deep breath. “Do you not have any care for how this place looks?”
“I have other things to do than worry about this place.” Speedwagon said, taking his coat off as he walked to the entrance to the other room.
“I’m supposing that’s your room?” Dio asked as he began to follow the other. Catching a glimpse of the bedroom before Speedwagon closed the door on the other and locked it. Leaving Dio standing in the larger room alone. “I see. Well, if you ever need some company I’ll be out here.”
Speedwagon stood alone in his room. Listening to Dio walk around his room, closing whatever curtains were in the home. He groaned as he made his way to his bed. He knew a locked door wasn’t going to stop Dio from killing him if that was the other’s plan.
His mind slowly began to race as he began to undress, shivering as the cold air hit his skin. Quickly dressing himself in sleepwear as he sat down at the edge of the bed.
Listening to the silence of the home, the footsteps had stopped, the other noise was the creaking of the wood and the wind outside. Speedwagon sighed, laying down on his bed, staring up at the ceiling.
Tonight wasn’t a good night. Far from it, his body was shaking from fear, his eyes refused to shut. Speedwagon was afraid of the serpent he let into his home. He could only hope the other was genuine and sadly he was running out of it.

Chapter Text
Another restless night. Being plagued by the horrors of everything he had witnessed, was what he normally went through. Primarily the memory of William’s death.
It often kept him up at night as he tried to think of ways he could’ve saved the man. It drove him mad with guilt but tonight he was too afraid to even think back on the moment.
Now the reality of Dio being in his home kept him up. Any moment he drifted to sleep he woke up almost immediately, listening for Dio outside his room. It wasn’t until he saw the pale light of day cracking through the closed window that he finally sat up.
Speedwagon stared at the floor, his heart pounded as he feared leaving his room. If Dio wanted him dead he could’ve just broken the door down, couldn’t he? He shook his head as he took a deep breath, standing up as he went to try and get an outfit that came off as formal.
Each step he took around the room was filled with caution, desperately trying to keep quiet to not alert Dio. That’s when he found himself in front of his bedroom door, carefully unlocking it as he opened it.
A scream left his mouth as he fell back, stumbling over his feet and onto the ground, looking up at Dio who stood directly in front of the door with a grin.
“Rough night?” Dio asked, leaning down to face Speedwagon’s horrified and angered face. “I could hear you tossing and turning the whole time.” He let out a laugh before he roughly grabbed Speedwagon’s wrist and pulled him up.
The other’s nails stabbed into his skin, making Speedwagon just get up faster. “So what? You expect me to sleep soundly with you here?” He asked, crossing his arms as he tried to make himself look confident.
“I’m flattered that I'm on your mind so much.” Dio mocked, making his way out of the doorway and into the main room. “When are you going to help me?”
Speedwagon opened his mouth to quip back, only to snarl. Remembering why Dio was even in his home in the first place. “Well, I’m going to look for a job again. Maybe this afternoon.” He said, deciding to delay having to deal with Dio.
As he cautiously left the safety of his room, he gently turned the lock after he had closed the door. He didn’t want Dio to believe he was welcome there.
“This afternoon?” Dio repeated, “You’re just going to leave me all alone all day?” He asked. Following Speedwagon around the home as he began to get ready to leave. “Confident move to let me loose in your home, hmm?”
Speedwagon scoffed as he went to the front door. “You won’t find anything.” He said, before he placed his hand on the handle, finally looking back at Dio. “If you wanted something you would’ve found it by now.”
The door slammed shut, dust gently falling from the ceiling. Dio stood there in silence as he dusted off his shoulder. The pleasant grin Dio had when speaking to Speedwagon vanished in an instant.
He was disgusted with himself with how willing he was to keep up with this act. It had only been a day and Dio wanted Robert dead.
The more he thought about it the more he found himself conflicted on whether he’d do better as a zombie or corpse. This train of thought soon vanished as Dio remembered why he was here.
Sadly it wasn’t to kill Speedwagon, at least not yet, it was to find where Jonathan was hiding.
Speedwagon was right to keep an eye open as he slept. Dio had been searching every crevice of the home as the other slept, every few minutes he heard Speedwagon moving around the room. It drove him mad, the man woke up to anything.
Dio walked around the home, being free from having to be cautious about making the other suspect him more. The only place Dio kept himself from checking was Speedwagon’s bedroom; he reached for the handle as he turned it, realizing that Speedwagon had locked it before he left.
A small scoff left his mouth, crouching down to the keyhole as he stared through to the other’s room. He chuckled, “Poor man… should get better locks.” He spoke under his breath. He looked at his hands before he placed one against the cold metal.
The metal began to heat up with Dio’s touch, almost melting before he finally managed to push the door open. He had broken the lock. He stood inside of the room as he made his way to Speedwagon’s bed.
A snarl soon took his petty smile off his face, “How could a man live in such disgust?” Dio asked himself. The bed wasn’t even that bad, it was just old and the sheets weren’t made. Clearly it bothered Dio in such a way that he made the bed himself.
Dio’s focus shifted towards drawers in the room, finding every single one empty or filled with dust bunnies. He was getting more annoyed with every moment he searched.
That was until he reached Speedwagon’s closet.
It was the neatest thing in the room, which surprised Dio until he looked up at a higher shelf, finding a small wooden box placed next to the black and white checkered hat that italian used to dawn so proudly.
Dio’s gaze narrowed for a moment, “Look at that… clearly somebody isn’t over it.” He mumbled before he took the box. Making his way to Speedwagon’s bed, he sat down and opened the box to find unopened letters upon letters.
‘Was it this easy?’ Dio thought to himself as he took one of the letters out, noticing it lacked any address on the outside. Swiftly Dio opened the envelope as he read what was inside, upon seeing who it was addressed too, his smile grew even more.
“Dear Mr Jostair…”
It wasn’t hard for Dio to tell who Speedwagon was trying to send the letter to, simply assuming the other never was told how to spell it. That thought changed as he read more.
Robert was almost completely illiterate.
Dio found himself trying to read through the letter with great difficulty. This letter was FILLED with fake words, misspelled verbs and complete gibberish but one message became clear.
Speedwagon was in love with Jonathan. The letter was even dated back to a few weeks after the two had met.
Dio felt disgusted with this. Two men together romantically? No, no, that’s the least of his worries. It was the fact that Speedwagon felt like he could even get with such a man like Jonathan!
He couldn’t help but tear open the next letter, then the next and the one after that. It was all the same, one attempt after another to confess his love for Jonathan. The writing slightly improved with each letter until the last one in the box. One with almost perfect English, dated to the night before Jonathan and Erina’s wedding.
Dio read the letter in silence as the grip on the paper softened, there were no more attempts to declare his love for Jonathan. The letter was short, it lacked the passion of love from before.
Speedwagon had given up on trying to love Jonathan.
Dio placed the letter down, reaching for the next only to feel the wood of the bottom of the box. He stared at the letters spewed all around the bed. Quickly grabbing them as he shoved them all back into the box.
There was a bizarre pit of emptiness that sat in Dio’s stomach, he didn’t understand what it was and nor did he want to. He placed the box back onto the shelf inside the closet before he closed the door.
Walking out of the room, Dio tried his best to fix the lock, frowning as he realized he melted it a bit too much. Looking back at the front door, he realized the lack of sunlight peering through.
Dio had waited long enough to find food. Now was the time. Making his way to the front door, he stepped back as Speedwagon swung the door open.
Speedwagon once again screamed at the sight of the other. “WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS WAITING FOR ME!?” He snapped, quickly taking out his knife as he brought it up to Dio’s chin.
Gently placing his hand on the other’s wrist, Dio calmly pushed the other’s hand away. “I was going to get myself a meal. Nothing to do with you.”
A small scoff left Speedwagon’s mouth. “So much for wanting to change, you're heading out to go kill people!”
Dio watched as Speedwagon spoke to him in anger before he grinned. “Well, unless you’d like to take me out to dinner, treat me to a glass of wine and a meal.”
Speedwagon tensed as he went to snap at Dio again, before his words from this morning echoed in his head. “Fine! Fine, don’t expect any princess treatment.” He grumbled as he made his way outside again. Allowing Dio outside before Speedwagon locked the front door.
This was going to be an eventful night.

Chapter Text
The weather never seemed pleasant in Ogre Street. At least that’s what Dio had taken note of as he stared up at the darkened sky, not a star in sight. He looked over to Speedwagon taking notice of the other’s tense body.
“Are you ashamed of being with me in public?” Dio teased, smirking as he nudged Speedwagon.
“There’s worse things to worry about than being seen with you, Dio.” He answered calmly, his hand gripping his knife as they crossed past an alleyway.
It wasn’t new to either of them why they acted how they did. Dio had the power to kill anyone who dared touch him and Speedwagon grew up having to fight for his life.
The two fell inside silence as they continued through the streets. The sound of snow crunching with each step.
“Here.” Speedwagon spoke, pointing to a run down pub.
Dio snarled as he looked at him. “You can’t expect me to eat here.”
“Ya? Then go home.” Speedwagon said, before he opened the door, letting the yells of drunkards out as he walked inside, not leaving the door open for Dio.
He stood alone in the cold for a moment, hesitating to join the other in the warmth. Looking around outside for a moment he finally gripped the doorknob.
It was loud, poorly lit and full of people he deemed disgusting off of appearance. He looked around, taking notice of Speedwagon already at the booth chatting with two other thugs.
Drink in hand Speedwagon seemed more happy. Dio’s gaze moved towards the two men he was talking to.
“So, let me get this straight, Robbie. The guy you went after for MONTHS is now living with you?” One spoke, crossing his arms.
“Yes, Tattoo. I don’t want him to but there he is.” Speedwagon answered, his gaze leaving the two as he noticed Dio. His smile fading as he turned away. “Speak of the devil..”
Tattoo snarled at Dio as he looked at him. So did the other thug.
“Do you need us to stay around, boss?”
“Ya, I mean if you need us we’re here, Robbie.” Tempo added,
“No. It’s fine.” Speedwagon mumbled, “Tattoo and Kempo, go enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about me.” He continued, speaking louder.
The three all exchanged looks for a moment before the other two left, leaving the pub.
“Sounds like you’re thrilled by my company.” Dio spoke, placing his hand on the table, slowly dragging it along as he sat down across from Speedwagon.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Speedwagon answered as he finished his glass. Quickly waving his hand out to catch a barmaid’s attention.
“I thought you wanted to help…I guess you really don’t need that money help.” Dio said, crossing his legs. “I mean.. I could just, find you as my ne-“
“Ya ya..” Speedwagon said, his focus on a woman approaching them. “Keep bringing me more.. Gonna be a long night.
“You can’t just-“ Dio snapped, trying to get Speedwagon’s attention.
“Another show for me I suppose.” The barmaid said, before looking at Dio. “What does the rich boy want?”
“Get him another glass.” Speedwagon mumbled before tensing as Dio lunged forward and grab the woman’s wrist.
“Wine, the best you have. I’d like to put him into debt.” Dio said with a grin before he let go.
“Another one for your tab?” The barmaid asked as she turned back to Speedwagon.
“Just tell your boss what I always do!” Speedwagon said.
“That he owes you for saving his life, yes I know.” The barmaid said before she walked away.
“Love ya, Poppy.” Speedwagon teased before he looked back at Dio.
Dio’s gaze narrowed as he stared back at Speedwagon. Reaching his hand for the other’s.
“Don’t fucking touch me.” Speedwagon answered, remaining unmoving. He quickly grabbed his next drink as he began to chug it down before Dio could even reach for his wine bottle and glass.
“You hate me that much?”
“Why wouldn’t I?!” Speedwagon snapped back, “You killed William, you killed Dire, and you just expect me to be so willing to help you!?”
He felt taken back by the other’s lash out. “Well of course not I’m not stu-“
Chugging down another beer he stared at Dio before he broke out laughing. “You’re going to kill me no matter what.” He said, his voice now dull.
“Don’t drink much?” Dio commented, “I’m sure you’ll change your choice of words sober.” Finally taking a sip of his wine.
“Oh shut it, Dio.” Speedwagon mumbled, another glass downed. “I’m doing this for Jojo.”
Dio sighed, “You had a very strong interest in my brother didn’t you.”
“He’s not your brother, Dio.” Speedwagon scoffed. He looked closer at Dio , “Fuck me, I can’t believe I’ve drank five already! I really do hate you!”
“Have you even eaten?” Dio asked, noticing how they hadn’t even been offered a meal or anything at all.
“Eaten? No no, his debt only covers my drinks. Plus I don’t need to yet! Ate this morning, somewhat.”
He felt concerned for him as he watched him chug another. Grabbing Speedwagon’s wrist. “Stop drinking.”
“What? Come on, you’re going to ruin my night?”
“No, Robert.” Dio tensed for a moment, “I’ll buy you dinner. I just want you to go home.”
“Why are you so bothered!?” Speedwagon said, standing up only to get grabbed by the neck.
Dio quickly loosened his grip as he moved his hand down to the other’s tie. “I’m..” Dio snarled for a moment. He could exploit Speedwagon while he was drunk, yet he didn’t want to. “Let me just help you get home.”
He couldn’t help but laugh after the other let go, cupping Dio’s cheeks. “Come on… There’s something else you want. I know it.”
“I don’t.” Dio said, before grabbing the other’s sleeve as they began to leave.
Speedwagon laughed more as they went outside and made their way back. Mumbling out ins and outs of sentences, Speedwagon began to dooz off.
It bothered Dio, but it was pitiful to see a man, so full of hate towards him, just be ok with being walked home.
What bothered him more was not being able to finish his wine. It wasn’t good but he wasn’t getting any better for the time being.
As they reached the home Speedwagon pushed off of Dio and against the door. “I.. I need to uh… what was it?? God.” He groaned as he struggled to unlock the front door.
“Let me help.” Dio said as he took the keys and unlocked the door for him, even holding it open like a gentleman.
Speedwagon stumbled about in the home. Almost about to collaspse there and then, only for Dio to grab him and bring him to his bed. Hoping the other wouldn’t notice the missing lock.
“You were holding me all tightly, but in a way Jonathan would Erina.” Speedwagon mumbled as Dio placed him onto the matress.
The mention of both their names almost made Dio lash out. Taking a deep breath he gently held Speedwagon’s hand as he forced a smile.
“Perhaps we could be like them together..” Dio said, before feeling Speedwagon shoo him away.
“Bug off, close the door. I’ll lock it in the morning..” Speedwagon said, as he rolled down onto his side.
A small laugh couldn’t help but escape Dio’s lips as he walked out of the room. Leaving Speedwagon to rest.
Sitting down on the couch, Dio stared for a moment before he smirked. Everything was already going so smoothly with his plan.
Speedwagon was truly an emotional armored man. Yet, Dio already knew the other’s weak spots. He just needed to find the perfect time to continue his plan.
As he laid down he sighed, pushing his bangs up before he rested his hand on his chest. Once again listening for every noise Speedwagon makes during the night.
Waiting patiently for their next conversation.

Chapter Text
Pain.
A very strong headache was what woke Speedwagon up. His whole body ached with a mix of hunger and exhaustion. He began to pat his hand around his bed as he searched for something to cover his face.
As he moved in the bed, he felt the fabric of the thin sheet adjust to his body. He was naked.
Speedwagon was used to waking up hungover and naked. Expecting the sun to forcefully awaken him, he opened his eyes, he realized his curtains were closed and the room sat in darkness. He squinted at the window, trying to recount the events from last night before his focus went to his bedroom door.
It was wide open, causing Speedwagon’s stomach to drop. Was he really too drunk to lock his door last night? A groan left his mouth as he fell back onto the mattress. Holding his head in shame and as a reaction to the pain he felt.
“I wasn’t expecting you to wake up.”
The moment Speedwagon’s head hit the mattress was ruined as he jolted upwards hearing Dio’s voice. “Fuck, don’t be so loud!” He said as he covered his ears.
Dio scoffed as he made his way to Speedwagon’s bed, sitting at the end of the mattress. “I never expected you to be such a light drinker. You were rather amusing last night.” He said with a grin, turning his gaze to the other.
“Oh god- Don’t tell me we-” Speedwagon said, his stomach dropped. He was nude now, could he have gotten intimate with Dio when he was drunk!?
“We what?” Dio stared, before he tensed, his face showing disgust. “I would never snoop so low to use you like some whore on the streets.”
“I can’t tell if you’re calling me a whore or if you respect me enough to not assault me while I’m drunk.” Speedwagon mumbled, a sense of relief falling over him, “Why is my door open?”
“You forgot to close it last night.” Dio said, turning his head away. “Do you not remember anything?”
“I remember telling you off.” Speedwagon said before he sighed, “You better have not gone snooping. There’s nothing of value here for you.”
“Oh I’m aware, Robert. You wouldn’t dare lie to me, would you?” Dio said, placing his hand on Speedwagon’s lower leg.
His face turned a bit red. Before he shook his head. “I won’t lie because I am a gentleman!” he said, groaning as his head sent another shock in his body.
Dio laughed, sliding his hand up to the other’s calf. Leaning closer. “You’re a great role model for me.. Really.” he said, “You follow through greatly on my request.”
“DON’T TOUCH ME ANYMORE!” Speedwagon yelled, using whatever strength he mustered from the hangover to push Dio back. His face was a bright red as he turned away.
The two were silent for a moment. Dio was taken off guard by Speedwagon’s reaction while the other regretted it.
“I mean- I-“ Speedwagon stuttered about for a moment. “I’m not doing a good job, Dio. We both know that. You should find somebody else.”
Dio stared with malice and anger, before he forced a smile again. “But I want you.” He said, he meant to continue, but no other words came out. Which dumbfounded Dio as well.
“Don’t.” Speedwagon said, “Just leave me alone. I don’t like dealing with people when I’m hungover.”
The two sat on the bed in silence before Dio got up. “Fine. Tell me if you need anything, afterall. I want to change for the better! Just like you did.” He said mockingly before he slammed the door as he left.
The silence that followed was deafening to Speedwagon. Slowly lying down as he stared up at the ceiling. A painful realization began to hit him.
He was falling in love with Dio.
Dio had only been in his home for a day! How was that possible? Was he really that desperate to move on from Jonathan that he’s willing to run off and play the hanky panky with his sociopathic brother?!
No.
Speedwagon took a deep breath as he pushed his hair back. In reality, he had been eyeing Dio even more since he met Jonathan. Saw Dio on Ogre Street, and he was honestly a very beautiful man to Speedwagon.
Only problem was that Dio reeked of sin and evil. He still did now.
Thankfully, it was nothing a few quid wouldn’t solve.
“What am I thinking?” Speedwagon said, cutting his train of thought off. He sat up again, making his way out of bed as he stumbled to his closet.
His hand hovered over the closet handles, before opening it with hesitation. Speedwagon avoided looking at the checkered hat, focusing on the box instead. He was reaching for it when his heart dropped. He heard Dio’s voice as he opened the door again.
“Sorry for not knocking, I just wanted to tell you I’m going to boil some water to help with your hangover. I’m just unsure how to use your stove…” Dio said, his eyes shifting to the closet. Speedwagon retracted his hand and slammed it shut.
“Close the door, you bastard! I’m naked! Get out and wait!” Speedwagon said as he ran to the door to slam it in Dio’s face.
The deafening sound of silence began to start Speedwagon’s spiral all over again.
Reopening the closet, Speedwagon grabbed his clothes for the stay. Everything seemed so automated and blurry.
No amount of hate changed Speedwagon’s mind about how attractive Dio was. It made him feel sicker than he already was.
It felt almost instantaneous when he realized he was already dressed, poorly put together, but dressed.
Making his way towards the door, he was caught off guard by a sudden scream. Rushing into his kitchen, he was ready to see some terrible sight, only to see Dio.
Dio had accidentally spilt the boiling water onto himself. Causing his already painful burns to hurt even more.
Speedwagon couldn’t help but laugh at the other. Prompting a scowl from the other man.
“Looks like you’re already feeling better..” Dio mumbled under his breath as he looked at his clothes, now wet and uncomfortable.
“Wouldn’t say that. I was worried you were murdering some poor woman.” Speedwagon said, making his way towards the small pot the water was boiling in. “Where’d you get the water from anyway?”
“From the spout last night.”
“The spout?”
Dio looked confused, “The one near ogre street. You make me sound stupid.”
“Because you are! That water line connects to the river! You know how filthy that water is?”
There was a pause before Dio began to spit up. “Why didn’t you tell me before?!” He yelled.
“Because I didn’t think you’d actually help me!” Speedwagon answered, his head hurt more causing him to lean against the wall.
“Just.. It’s fine.” Speedwagon mumbled. “You.. god I’ve yelled at you twice already.”
“Don’t tell me you feel guilty.” Dio said as he crossed his arms.
Speedwagon hesitated to answer before he sighed. “Ya. I do.” He groaned, hating himself for being so soft. Being caught off guard by Dio’s patting him on the shoulder.
Dio leaned close to Speedwagon’s ear. The tension was unbearable. “That’s why I came to you, Robert.” Letting go of the other Dio made his way to the couch as he laid down.
“Sadly you’re a TERRIBLE teacher.” Dio said as he laughed. “So full of hate towards me yet you agreed to help me change.”
Speedwagon scoffed. “I know, you don’t give me any reasons to like you.”
“Really?” Dio said, “What about all the help I do for you?”
“You mean last night? That’s nothing compared to Jonathan!” Speedwagon said as he walked to Dio.
Dio grinned before he pulled Speedwagon close, pulling him ontop of him. “It’s not hard to tell what you think of Jonathan.”
Speedwagon shoved off of Dio. “You don’t know me!” He snapped, before he made his way to the front door.
“Don’t go, you need to rest!” Dio said as he got up.
“Why do you care so much?” Speedwagon asked.
“I don’t!”
Speedwagon looked away, before he opened the front door. Leaving Dio alone again in the room.
There was that feeling again. Dio felt sick, the pit in his stomach was getting worse as he sat down.
He didn’t understand. Why did he feel like this!? Why was he feeling bad for a scum like Speedwagon?
Those thoughts and feeling will continue to linger until Speedwagon’ return for the night.

Chapter 5: Tired
Chapter Text
It seemed endless.
Every day was the same, Speedwagon would leave in the late morning and only return late at night.
They would have brief conversations each time they crossed paths, but it wasn’t enough. Dio was disappointed, he had to admit he missed his dinner date with the other.
He also had to admit that he was amazed Speedwagon didn’t find the broken lock yet.
Was he still drinking?
Unlike Speedwagon, Dio had to admit he didn’t have a strong sense of smell.
Until recently.
Being so distracted by Speedwagon, Dio forgot to eat. He was hungry. He needed blood, he needed something.
Tossing and turning on the couch, his nose perked up. Blood.
Sitting up, he looked towards the front door, hearing angered mumblings as he listened to Speedwagon make his way to the door.
When the door opened, Speedwagon was bloody. Small cuts across his face, his clothing dirty and stained.
“What are you looking at?” Speedwagon said, staring at Dio’s eyes reflecting across the room like a stray cat. He took of his coat as he closed the door, approaching the other quietly.
“Are you going to answer?” Speedwagon asked. This was new. Usually Dio was the first to start chatting, or at least respond with something snarky. Seeing him stare at him in silence slightly worried Speedwagon.
On the other hand, the smell of blood was driving him mad. He knew Speedwagon must’ve gotten into some kind of fight, he could smell it.
Speedwagon leaned closer to Dio, before placing his hand on the other’s shoulder. “Are you ok?”
Swiftly Speedwagon was pulled onto the couch and ontop of Dio. Leaving him flustered and confused, “What in the bloody hell are you doing!?” He yelled, trying to get off before Dio pulled him closer.
“I need you.”
“WHAT?!”
“Not like that! I need a favor from you.” Dio said, loosening his grip on the other. “I’m hungry.”
“Then go out and eat? I don’t know?” Speedwagon said, confused and bothered by this.
“I need blood, Robert.” Dio quickly answered. “I feel like I’ll lose my mind if I don’t have it.”
There was silence.
Speedwagon stared at the other, before he opened his mouth again. “Have you.. not killed anyone?”
Dio snarled before moving his hands up to the other’s face. “You’re stupider than I thought. I wouldn’t go out murdering people if I wanted to change, you’d also yell at me for it and I honestly rather not deal with it.”
“So you’re going to kill me?”
“Jesus Christ, Robert.” Dio groaned, “I just need you to let me feed off of you. Not much, just enough to keep me sane to AVOID killing you and everyone on this pathetic street!”
Hesitation was the first thing that settled in Speedwagon’s mind. Could he trust Dio not to suck him dry? If Dio wanted him dead he would’ve just done it already, that’s what he didn’t understand.
“You won’t kill me?”
“FOR THE LAST TIME I’M NOT GOING TO KILL YOU. I JUST WANT TO EAT.” Dio snapped, he was at his wits end. He was starving, he was tired of playing this stupid back and forward game, he needed an answer now before he murders him.
Speedwagon couldn’t help but laugh at the other’s reaction before being kicked in the stomach. “Ok- ok fine. Yes.. fine.. please don’t kick me there again, or kick me at all.”
Dio grinned, sitting up as he pulled Speedwagon up. “I’ll be quick.” He said, before he hesitated. There was that feeling again.
When Dio looked at Speedwagon, slightly pained, move his collar down to reveal his neck made him realize that he didn’t want to feed off the other like every other man before.
Speedwagon was different.
He just didn’t know why.
Dio moved closer, before plunging his teeth into Speedwagon’s neck. Hearing a pained winced from the other’s lips.
He tasted better than expected. Lost in the taste Dio wasn’t even aware of how he held Speedwagon, nor how the other held him.
Perhaps it would be a romantic scene if Speedwagon wasn’t yelping in pain every second. There the two lay, one hand in Speedwagon’s hair. Another against the other’s cheek.
Speedwagon held Dio’s waist and wrist.
The taste was perfect to Dio.
“Get off.. please.” Speedwagon mumbled. He was feeling light headed. Moving his hand up to try and move Dio’s head away only for Dio to bite down more. “I can’t do it anymore!” Speedwagon yelled before yanking Dio’s hair.
Finally pulling him out of his trance. Blood dripped down Dio’s mouth as he looked at Speedwagon. “You look exhausted.” Dio teased.
Speedwagon softly nodded before he leaned onto Dio. “Just… help me to my bed please.” He said. These words were followed by Speedwagon standing up, taking a few steps, then collapsing.
Dio jumped a bit before he leaned down to help the other up. “Did I take too much?”
“No..” Speedwagon mumbled, almost using Dio as a crutch. “I just… don’t have much blood in the first place I guess.”
Dio smiled, laughing at the other, slowly walking him to bed. “That’s not possible.”
“Oh.”
Speedwagon looked at Dio before he frowned. “You look like.. how you were in the Joestar mansion. Just without the fancy attire.”
“Does it bother you?”
“Makes me sad.”
Dio continued to move before placing Speedwagon onto his mattress. “Sad about what?”
“Were you happy growing up?”
“What kind of question is that?! I despised the Joestars! I hated them.”
“I wasn’t talking about them.” Speedwagon said, beginning to drift between awake and asleep.
Dio raised an eyebrow, “Then who?”
Speedwagon shrugged, “I forgot now.. I’ll tell you tomorrow.” He said, before passing out.
What the fuck was that about?
Dio was dumbfounded, staring at the other resting peacefully. His heart was racing and he didn’t know why.
He couldn’t just leave Speedwagon alone in his room all night, not like this. Perhaps Dio should stay.
Carefully, Dio got into bed with the other. Why was he doing this?! Why was he sharing a bed with a man as low as Speedwagon?
Why was he enjoying Speedwagon’s company?
These questions circled in Dio’s mind again before stopping. Feeling Speedwagon roll over, almost holding Dio’s arm.
Maybe he’d think more about those questions tomorrow. He had to make sure Speedwagon wouldn’t die in his sleep.
At least that’s what he told himself.
