Chapter 1: The meeting
Chapter Text
Thomas stared at Teresa harshly as he was led to stand next to his friends.
“Why didn’t you run.” Minho hissed. Thomas didn’t look at him, “I’m tired of running” Minho didn’t respond, instead turning to look at Teresa.
“How could you do this you traitor!” Minho yelled at her. Teresa stood next to Ava Paige, looking slightly guilty but firm with her decisions. “You have to understand! I did this for the greater good! We have to find a cure!” Teresa screamed. “There is no bloody cure!” Minho yelled back
“How long….” Thomas muttered. Janson smirked as he heard Thomas’s mutter, “Teresa’s always had a sense of justice… ever since we restored her memories… and she not the only one.”
“What do you mean she’s not the only o-“ Thomas froze as a figure walked up next to Teresa. The other gladers faces fell instantly. “No way…” Minho muttered.
The figure was tall and lanky, hair long and tied up in a bun with only a few strands framing his face. He walked with a limp and held the gun firmly in his hands, dressed in the wckd guard uniform. He stared at them all like they were all just distant strangers, not a hint of familiarity.
“Newt….?” The person in questioned glared at him. “How do you know my name?” He hissed.
“Newt it’s me Thomas! Your boyfriend! Don’t you remember….” He looked at newt feeling helpless.
“Ignore him newt…” Ava whispered to Newt who nodded at her like a doll. “Alright everyone load them up!” Janson yelled.
Thomas then jerked away from the guard and brought a grenade out. “Don’t touch them or I blow this all up.”
Janson stared at Thomas and put his hands up in a mock surrender “you don’t want to do this Thomas.”
“Shut up!” Thomas yelled back.
Janson turned to look at newt “you know what to do newt.” Newt nodded at him like a robot and pointed his gun at Thomas, not hesitating to fire the electro bullet.
Thomas gasped in pain as the bullet hit him, electro shocking him and the last thing he saw before everything went black was newt… who had forgotten his lover

When Thomas came to next he was tied to a metal chair in a dimly lit room… an interrogation room. He seemed to be alone and attempted to struggle against the restraints but they held firmly.
Just then, the memories from what happens before he passed out came flooding back to him.. newt, his precious sweet newt had been stripped of all his memories, made to be a WCKD puppet and Thomas didn’t even know what newt knew or believed anymore.
The door clicked open snapping Thomas from his thoughts. He looked up to see Teresa walking into the room, newt walking a few steps behind her. Thomas just glared not saying anything.
“Hello Thomas..” Teresa said confidently but her voice wavered slightly. Thomas stayed silent still not letting up his glare as Teresa sat in the chair across from him and Newt stood in silence next to her.
“I have some questions for you and I need you to answer honestly” Teresa began but Thomas cut her off “what did they do to newt?” Teresa stilled before continuing “that’s none of your business.” She snapped before sighing and grabbing her clipboard.
“Ok first question. Do you remember anything from your past?” Thomas shook his head at Teresa's question. “Ok… do you know where the rest of the right arm is hiding?” Thomas glared. “ I’m not answering any of your questions until you explain what’s happening with newt,” he demanded.
After 10 minutes of trying to negotiate with him Teresa sighed and nodded at newt who undid Thomas’s restraints but cuffed his hands together instead. “Subject A2 you are to be taken to the holding cell .” Newt said flatly before beginning to push Thomas out of the room.
Once they were alone in the corridor Thomas jerked away from newt, spinning around to face him before grabbing his shoulders and shaking him, “come on newt! You remember me right!? Come on snap out of it!” But despite all his pleading newt just stood there, staring blankly at Thomas as he was shaken. “I don’t know you personally A2. But I must get you back to your holding cell with immediate effect.”
Thomas groaned realising he wasn’t going to get through to newt and just let himself be lead out of the room without putting up a fight.
As they walked down the corridors of the WICKED facility Thomas couldn't help but feel a pang of desperation and helplessness. He had always believed that he and Newt shared a strong bond, but now, with his boyfriend turned into a brainwashed puppet of WICKED, he felt utterly alone. He let himself be led into the holding cell in a daze, lost in his thoughts.
"What the hell did they do to you, Newt?" he muttered under his breath, feeling a heavy weight settling in his chest.
Once they reached the holding cell, Thomas was shoved unceremoniously inside. The heavy metal door slammed shut behind him, leaving him alone in the cramped, dimly lit room. He slumped down on the hard floor, leaning his head back against the cold stone wall.
He couldn't help but feel a sense of despair wash over him. He had lost everything - his freedom, his friends, and now... Newt, his beloved boyfriend…
He closed his eyes, trying to shut out the harsh reality around him. But the image of Newt, blank-eyed and vacant, refused to leave his mind. He had always known that WICKED was ruthless, but he never imagined they would stoop so low as to brainwash his boyfriend.
———
Newt stood outside of the cell room just… staring at it as question after question rushed through his head. Who was Thomas? How did he know him? And why did he feel like he recognised him? All these questions piled on one after the other but no answer was given to him.
Just then familiar footsteps approached him, he looked up to come face to face with Janson. “Hello Newton…” Janson greeted him with a smug expression.
“Director Janson” newt answered quickly, giving a slight nod of his head. Janson smirked at this response, “you seem… confused. May I pick your brain for your thoughts?” Newt hesitated, clearly unsure whether he should or not.
Janson leaned against the wall next to Newt, waiting patiently for his answer. Newt's mind was racing, unsure of what he should say.
"It's just...there's something familiar about him," Newt finally said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Janson raised an eyebrow, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "Familiar, you say. Care to elaborate?
Newt hesitated again, not sure if he should share his thoughts. But Janson's gaze was unwavering, expectant.
"I... I feel like I've met him before," Newt admitted, his brow furrowed in confusion. "But I don't know from where or when."
Janson nodded, pretending to look like he was contemplating this information.
“Familiar you say… in what sense?” Janson asked, amusement clear within his voice. Newt stared at him, opening his mouth to respond when as pain flared slightly in his neck. He paused, forgetting what he was going to say entirely. “It’s nothing….” Janson nodded at this answer, “well it is getting quite late so I think you should head to bed” newt nodded to exhausted to put up a fight, “yes sir.”
Newt watched as Janson walked away, his thoughts still consumed by the conversation they had just had. He let out a heavy sigh before turning around and starting to make his way to his own apartment within WCKD. As he walked, he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease and confusion stirring inside of him.
After arriving home, he swiftly changed into something more comfortable and settled into bed. The memories and occurrences of the day continued to replay in his mind. He let out a sigh, momentarily startled as his cat, affectionately named Mittens, leaped onto the bed. A soft smile appeared on his face as he gently stroked the feline before getting up to feed her. After feeding her, the pair climbed into bed and mittens snuggled onto his lap as they both fell into a peaceful slumber, the dull ache in his neck and thoughts on thomas slowly fading as sleep claimed him.

Thomas woke with a start as the sound of the iron door swung open. He looked up, hoping to see newt in the door way, but was disappointed when it turned out to bed just a regular guard. “You’re needed for a test.” The guard spoke in an emotionless way. “What’s it for?” Thomas asked but the guard just ignored him, “get up now.” The guard turned around and waited for Thomas to follow.
Thomas slowly got up, trying to hide his disappointment at not seeing Newt. He followed the guard out of the cell and into the hallway, curiosity piqued despite himself.
"What kind of test is it?" he asked again as they walked.
The guard remained stoic, not bothering to even look at Thomas. "You'll find out soon enough. Just follow me."
Thomas had no other choice but to follow, his mind racing with unanswered questions. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in his gut. As they walked, he noticed the sterile, cold atmosphere of the facility. White walls and bright lights made the place look like a lab more than a prison.
The guard finally stopped in front of a heavy metal door, typed a code into a keypad, and opened it, gesturing for Thomas to enter.
Inside of the room sat a screen and a chair. Thomas stared at it confused until a doctor walked over to them. “Sit in the chair. We are doing a psychological exam.” The doctor said in a monotone voice. Thomas reluctantly sat down in the chair, unwillingly letting himself be strapped in. “The test will begin in 3… 2… 1…” and that was all the warning Thomas got before it began….
—
Thomas emerged from the testing chamber, feeling drained and eager to finally leave the sterile room. However, just as he was preparing to leave, the doctor stopped him, holding up a syringe and motioning to the guard to wheel a wheelchair towards him.
Thomas tensed, unsure of what was happening. The doctor smiled at him reassuringly. "Don't worry, it's just a routine blood test," he said as he administered the needle into Thomas' arm, collecting a sample. "You've done very well today, so just relax and let the guard take you back."
Thomas nodded weakly, trying to hide the uneasy feeling coursing through him. He sat obediently in the wheelchair, the guard taking hold of the handles and wheeling him away from the testing area.
As they moved through the facility, Thomas couldn't help but wonder what the blood test was for. Did they suspect something was wrong with him? He tried to shake off his paranoia, telling himself it was just a standard procedure. But deep down, he couldn't help but feel like something was off.
He pushed the feeling down as they arrived back at his room again. “Dinners at 6. Lights out at 8.” The guard spoke harshly pushing the wheel chair into the room before promptly slamming the door shut. Thomas huffed and sat back in the chair. This was going to be a painfully long time.
——
Newt walked down the sleek, sterile corridor towards Chancellor Paige's office. He had been at WICKED for some time now, and of all the staff members, she had been the kindest to him. As he approached her office door, he knocked three times and waited for her soft, commanding voice to call out to him.
"Come in!"
He pushed open the door and stepped inside, greeted by a warm smile from Chancellor Paige. "Ah, Newt, right on time."
"Hello Ms Paige," Newt said with a respectful tone. Ava chuckled softly and replied, "I've told you before, there's no need to be so formal. Just call me Ava."
Newt nodded in acknowledgment, "My apologies, Ava." The name slipped from his tongue a little awkwardly, but he didn't mention anything about it.
He carefully placed the folders he had been carrying about A2’s psychological tests and nodded before turning to leave. “Wait a second newt” hee froze as Ava spoke again before turning to face her, “yes Ms Ava?” he replied in a curious tone. Ava smiled at him, “don’t try to get too close to subject A2. Understood?”
“Understood.” Newt answered with a slow nod of the head. Ava smiled and flicked her wrist, signaling him too leave. With that demand newt left in an almost hurried way. Standing outside her office door he couldn’t help but wonder….
Who was subject A2 to him? And why were Ava and Janson so determined to keep him away from him?

Chapter Text
Newt made his way through the sterile corridors of WCKD, his mind focused on one objective - discovering how Subject A2 knew him. Approaching the door to A2's cell, Newt knocked twice before opening it and stepping inside.
Thomas' eyes widened as the door opened, revealing Newt standing there. In a moment of surprise and relief, he exhaled, whispering, "Newt..."
Newt stood frozen, unsure of how to react or what to say. He could see the mixture of emotions playing across Thomas's face - the relief, the pain, the longing. It was all too much for him to process at once.
Thomas stood up slowly, taking a step closer to Newt. "Newt... it's really you..." he said, his voice cracking slightly.
Newt nodded stiffly, as if on autopilot.
Thomas took another step closer, his hand involuntarily reaching out towards Newt. "Please tell me you remember me..." he pleaded, desperation evident in his voice.
Thomas' expression immediately fell as Newt shook his head, confirming his worst fears. "So... you really don't remember me?" Thomas asked, confusion and hurt etched on his face.
Newt hesitated, feeling a sense of guilt and helplessness at not being able to remember the person in front of him. "I... I don't," he replied softly.
Thomas' shoulders slumped, and he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "Why are you here then?" he demanded, his voice laced with frustration and exhaustion.
Thomas's face brightened at Newt's admission, and he couldn't help but grin widely. "Really!?" he exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement.
Newt nodded slowly, his expression still a bit guarded. "I just... want to understand our relationship. I want to know how I knew you."
Thomas's smile softened, and he took a step closer, his tone gentle. "I understand. We were... very close, Newt. Very close friends."
“We were… friends?” Newt asked. “Well… not really” Thomas admitted, a few weeks before I thought you died… we got together in a romantic relationship…” newts eyes widened at those words. “I used to date you!?” Thomas chuckled at the reaction.
“Yeah you did”
“We were like… boyfriends?”
“Correct yes”
“So… I’m gay?”
“As far as I’m aware yes…”
Newt's eyes widened at the news of their past relationship. "We dated?" he asked incredulously.
Thomas nodded, a small smile on his face. "Yeah, we did."
Newt shook his head in disbelief. "I had no idea..."
Thomas chuckled at his reaction. "Yeah, we were boyfriends. And yes, I’m not lying.”
Newt stood there, struggling to find the right words. His brain was in turmoil, trying to process this newfound information.
"I… I need to go," Newt mumbled, his voice cracking slightly. "I need to think about this... and I need to write it down."
Thomas nodded understandingly. "Take your time," he said softly. "Do whatever you need to do."
Newt nodded and although he was hesitant he left the room making his way to his apartment. But as he left Thomas noticed it… A small chip implanted in the back of Newt's neck. A shiver ran through him as he realized the extent of WCKD's control over his friend. He couldn't help but wonder how long the chip had been there and what it was capable of.
As Newt left the room, Thomas was left alone with his thoughts. With the weight of this newfound knowledge, he felt a mix of worry, anger, and helplessness. Would he ever be able to truly reach Newt again?
Notes:
Cliffhanger… what does the chip do? Maybe you’ll find out next time! Bye bye!
Chapter 5: Unanswered questions
Summary:
Newt clenched his fists as he confronted Ava, anger lacing his every word.
"Why can't I remember that Thomas is my boyfriend?" he demanded, his voice filled with frustration.
Ava's eyes widened momentarily before hardening, her tone guarded. "Who told you that?" she retorted.
Newt's gaze intensified, his frustration mounting. "It doesn't matter! I just want to know why I can't remember!"
Chapter Text
Instead of returning to his own apartment, Newt found himself marching purposefully down the hallway towards Ava's office. His mind was in turmoil, plagued with the questions about his lost memories, especially the fact that he had a boyfriend he couldn't remember.
As Newt made his way down the hallway, his thoughts were consumed with the question of his missing memories, particularly the fact that he had a boyfriend he couldn't recall. He walked with purpose, determined to seek answers and get to the bottom of this confusing situation.
However, as he neared Ava's office, a sense of hesitation and doubt began to creep into his mind. Was this really the right move? What if Ava refused to give him any answers?
Newt slowed his pace, his confidence faltering. He stood outside the door to Ava's office, hand poised to knock but he lowered his hand again. He instead walked into the chancellor’s office without even bothering to knock, his gaze fixed on her.
Ava looked up from her paperwork, surprised at Newt's sudden arrival. She raised an eyebrow at his determined expression, sensing that something was amiss.
"Newt," she greeted cautiously, "is there something on your mind?"
Newt didn't waste time for pleasantries. He leaned forward, palms flat against the desk, and fixed Ava with an intense stare.
Ava fixed Newt with a stern look, her tone firm and authoritative.
"I explicitly told you not to get too close to him," Ava stated.
Newt's scowl deepened as he retorted, "So what if I did? He's just a subject!"
Ava crossed her arms, "That's irrelevant. You went against direct orders. You were told specifically to remain professional and keep your distance from the subjects."
“No I wasn’t. I was told to stay away from Thomas. Or ‘subject A2’. Why specifically him?! What are you hiding from me!” Newt snapped back, clearly becoming more frustrated and desperate with the unanswered question.
Ava remained composed, her expression giving nothing away.
"That information is classified," she replied coolly.
Newt's frustration mounted, his anger flaring up at Ava's enigmatic response.
"Classified?! What do you mean classified? You expect me to just blindly follow orders without any explanation?!"
Ava's tone remained cool and authoritative as she issued her ultimatum.
"Yes in fact I do. You are not to have any contact with subject A2 from this point forward," she stated firmly.
Newt's frustration boiled over, his anger escalating.
"Are you serious?! You can't just expect me to-"
Ava cut him off with a cold stare.
"You will do as you're told, or face the consequences. Agree to this and we'll forget this entire conversation ever happened."
“No I will not agree to that! That’s ridiculous!” He protested, annoyance clear in his tone. Ava sighed tiredly and reached into a drawer pulling out a remote of some kind, “I didn’t want to do this newt but you left me with no choice.” Newt looked at the remote confused, “what’s that f-“ he’s cut off by a scorching pain in his neck.
Newt barely had time to register the pain before a searing agony shot through his body, causing him to crumple to the floor crying out. The intensity of the pain was excruciating, and it took all his willpower not to scream again.
Ava stood over him, the remote still clutched in her hand. "I told you not to defy me, Newt. You should've listened."
Newt looked up at her, his expression a mixture of disbelief and anger. "What did you do to me?!"
Newt's frustration gave way to confusion as he felt his consciousness slipping away. The last thing he heard was Ava's cold voice ordering the guards to escort him back to his room.
"Bring him bac to his room instantly," Ava commanded.
As Newt's mind went blank, all thoughts of Thomas and their conversation faded from his memory, leaving him in a state of ignorant bliss.
“He won’t remember anything about A2 after this.”
——
Newt woke up in his familiar surroundings, and immediately noticed Mittens, his cat, curled up at his feet. He pet her out of pure instinct, the memories of the previous day a complete blank.
As Newt sat up, he noticed a note placed on his bedside table. It was from Ava, instructing him to take the day off and not leave the apartment.
Newt frowned in confusion, but decided to do as the note suggested. He would stay home and try to make sense of the empty spaces in his memory.
Unknown to Newt, the chip on his neck remained active, its presence unnoticed and unacknowledged. The tiny device continued to monitor and control his thoughts and actions, completely hidden from his awareness.

Chapter 6: The rescuing and kidnapping
Summary:
"You finally found me!" Thomas exclaimed, his voice filled with relief and gratefulness.
Minho returned the hug, his own emotions running high. "Of course I did, you idiot," he teased. "Did you really think I would give up on you that easily?"
Chapter Text
Newt jolted awake as the blaring sound of the intruder alarm shattered the silence. At first, he thought it was a malfunction or fluke, but the persistent alarm sent a jolt of worry through him. Footsteps could be heard outside his door, adding to the growing sense of unease.
Panic clawed at Newt's throat as he swung his legs out of bed, adrenaline coursing through his veins. "What's happening?" he muttered, his voice hoarse with sleep.
——
Thomas jolted awake at the sudden blaring of an alarm, his heart pounding with panic. He sat frozen in his cell, desperately hoping his friends could somehow sense his presence and come to his aid.
The alarm continued to echo loudly throughout the facility, filling the air with a sense of urgency and fear. Thomas fidgeted, unsure of what to do in this dire situation.
He couldn't help but feel trapped and helpless, his mind racing with uncertainty. He looked around his cell for anything – any way to signal or escape. But the room was devoid of any obvious means of escape, leaving Thomas feeling even more hopeless.
As Thomas felt his hope slipping away, a familiar voice pierced through the quiet surroundings, jolting him back to attention.
"He's in here!" The voice was unmistakably Minho's, and it filled Thomas with a mix of relief and anticipation.
Thomas' heart leapt with joy as the door slid open, revealing Minho. Without a moment's hesitation, he ran to hug his best friend, wrapping his arms around him tightly.
"You finally found me!" Thomas exclaimed, his voice filled with relief and gratefulness.
Minho returned the hug, his own emotions running high. "Of course I did, you idiot," he teased. "Did you really think I would give up on you that easily?"
“Of course I didn’t,” the man in question huffed. Thomas' attention was immediately drawn to Gally and Teresa standing behind Minho. His surprise quickly turned to confusion as he asked the question on his mind, "What is she doing here? And more importantly, how is Gally still alive? I clearly remember him getting speared in the chest."
“That’s a long story…” Minho explained sheepishly, “our first priority is getting you out of here.” Minho said firmly grabbing Thomas’s wrist but Thomas resisted, “we need to get newt out first.” He said firmly. Minho nodded in understanding and turned to Teresa, "Show us the way to Newt's apartment."
Teresa nodded, "Alright, I'll take you there. But you should know, he won't come willingly."
Minho's expression remained resolute and determined. "That's alright," he replied. "I've got something that can knock him out if necessary."
—
Newt was sitting in his apartment, frustration growing as he tried to contact Ava Paige without success. Suddenly, the sound of the door being kicked open shattered the quiet atmosphere. Newt's heart began to race in anticipation as he looked up to see Minho, Gally, and Teresa standing in the doorway.
"What the hell?" Newt exclaimed, his brow furrowing in confusion. "What are you doing here?” He asked staring at Teresa before looking at Thomas “And why are you out of your cell!” And finally he looked at gally and Minho “And who are you two!?”
"You're coming with us," Minho repeated, his tone firm.
Newt glared at him, anger and determination flaring up within him. "Like hell I am," he retorted, reaching for his gun.
Minho and Gally tensed, ready to react to any sudden movements.
Newt frantically reached for his gun, but before he could even fully grasp it, Thomas acted quickly, wrapping an arm around Newt's waist and snatching the weapon from his hold.
Newt struggled to break loose from Thomas's grip, his frustration and desperation growing. "Damn it! Let me go!" he exclaimed, writhing and twisting in an attempt to free himself.
“Newt calm down! You remember me right!? Last time we talked I told you about your p-“ Newt cuts him off, “Last time we talked!? I’ve never talked to you!” He snapped back still struggling in Thomas’s grip. Thomas looked confused, “what do you mean? Yes we have.”
“No we haven’t!” Thomas's surprise was replaced by a realization when he remembered the chip on Newt's neck. "It controls your memories…" he said softly, his mind racing with understanding.
“Minho give me the thing. The thing that’ll knock him out.” Thomas hissed. Minho nodded silently, quickly rummaging through his bag before pulling out a small vial filled with a clear liquid. He handed it to Thomas without a word.
Thomas took the vial from Minho, his grip on Newt still firm. "This ought to do it," he muttered under his breath.
Newt continued to struggle desperately, his body thrashing and fighting against Thomas's hold. The vial filled with the clear liquid gleamed in Thomas's hand, its contents almost taunting Newt in the way they could potentially take away his autonomy.
"What is that?!" Newt's voice was filled with both fear and anger, his eyes wide and frantic. "What are you planning on doing with that?!"
Thomas pressed the vial to Newt's mouth and poured the liquid inside, forcing him to swallow every drop. Newt fought against Thomas's hold, but the grip was too strong. Gradually, he started to lose consciousness as the liquid took effect. Once the vial was removed, Newt collapsed in Thomas's arms, slipping into a deep unconscious state.
Thomas hoisted the unconscious Newt onto his shoulder before turning to the others. "Make sure to restrain Teresa and gag her. Grab some rope as well - Newt's gonna be pissed as hell when he wakes up." Minho nodded and immediately set to work, restraining Teresa and readying the rope to bind Newt.
With Teresa securely bound and gagged, the Gladers set off on their perilous journey. Thomas led the way, Newt still unconscious on his shoulder. They moved quickly and silently through the complex corridors of WCKD, constantly on edge for any signs of danger.
As they walked, Thomas's thoughts were a whirlwind of worry and determination. He knew that the road ahead would be fraught with uncertainty, but he was prepared to do whatever it took to reach the safe haven and start a new life with Newt by his side.
——
By the time they reached the berg, newt had already began to stir so Thomas set him down on a seat and grabbed the rope from Minho. Once newt was restrained, Thomas sat next to newt and looked at Minho.
“As soon as we get to the safe haven, we are getting our Newt back.”
Notes:
We’ve finally got newt back! Cliffhanger so be excited to see how newt reacts to being in the haven again.
Chapter 7: The heartbreaking truth
Summary:
Thomas noticed Newt's awakening and moved closer to him. "You're awake," he said, a hint of concern in his voice. “Let me go.” Newt hissed, sending Thomas a death glare.
Chapter Text
Newt stirred from his uneasy sleep, his head still pounding from the night before. He tried to stretch only to find that he couldn't move. He looked down to find his arms and legs bound tightly to the chair he was sitting in. A wave of anger washed over him as he realized he had been left like this.
Thomas noticed Newt's awakening and moved closer to him. "You're awake," he said, a hint of concern in his voice. “Let me go.” Newt hissed, sending Thomas a death glare.
Newt's glare pierced through Thomas, his anger and frustration evident in his gaze. Thomas winced at the intensity of Newt's look and sighed heavily, knowing that the journey ahead would be difficult if he couldn't find a way to pacify him.
"Listen, Newt, I know you're angry," Thomas said, trying to keep his own frustration in check. "But lashing out isn't going to help anyone here." “Stop acting like you know me!”, Newt shouted, “You’re a subject of WCKD, I don’t know you or should even be talking to you!”
Thomas looked understandably hurt but then his face hardened, “who told you you weren’t allowed to talk to me?” he asked sternly. “None of your business.” Newt snapped back. Thomas grabbed his face and made newt look at him, “it is my business now tell me.” Thomas's patience was wearing thin, his grip on Newt's face tightening. He was getting tired of the constant defiance and refusal to speak. "Damn it, Newt," he snapped. "Just tell me who told you I wasn't allowed to talk to you. This is getting ridiculous!"
Newt, however, kept his mouth firmly shut, his stubbornness only fueling Thomas's anger even further. Thomas leaned in closer, his voice sharp and demanding. "You *will* tell me who said that, or so help me, I will make you."
“Try me.” Newt hissed. Thomas's anger boiled over as Newt dared to challenge him. "You want to test me, huh?" he shot back. "I'll do it, I'll keep you tied up for as long as it takes if you don't tell me who told you that I can't talk to you!"
Newt's eyes widened, realizing Thomas wasn't kidding. "You wouldn't dare," he said defiantly.
Thomas leaned in even closer, his face inches from Newt's. "Oh, I would dare. Don't underestimate me, Newt."
“Fine if you want to know so badly it was Chancellor Paige! Now leave me alone stop talking to m-“ newt was abruptly cut off as Thomas stands up and storms out the room. Thomas was livid after hearing that it was Chancellor Paige who had forbidden him from talking to Newt. He stormed out of the room, leaving Newt tied to the chair and seething. Newt watched as Thomas slammed the door shut behind him, leaving Newt alone in the room, still bound to the chair.
——
“Of course it was Ava Paige.” Thomas muttered under his breath, but what he wanted to know was why Newt was taking orders from her like an obedient puppy when Newt used to hate every fibre of her being. It didn’t add up to him. Neither did the fact newt didn’t recall their conversation back at wckd…
Thomas's thoughts raced as he replayed the image of Newt's neck in his mind. There it was, the reason for all this trouble - the damn chip. Chancellor Paige must have put it there, controlling Newt's actions.
Thomas clenched his fists in anger, feeling a sense of betrayal. How dare that woman treat Newt like a pawn, a mere tool to be controlled? The memory loss also made sense to him now… maybe just maybe if he found a way to break the chip without hurting Newt, his boyfriend will come back to him again.
—
With a renewed sense of determination, Thomas made his way back to the room where he had left Newt. He knew he couldn't do anything about the damn chip right now, but he could start working on Newt's mind. And so, he would start slowly chipping away at the barriers that Paige had put up in Newt's mind, little by little, until hopefully, Newt would remember who he really was.
Thomas reached the room and opened the door, walking inside and facing Newt, still bound to the chair.
“What do you want. If you're not here to untie me then leaved.” Newt hissed. Thomas rolled his eyes at Newt's hostile tone, sitting down in front of him anyway.
"Stop being so prickly," he shot back. "I'm not here to untie you, at least not yet."
Newt grunted in frustration, yanking at his bindings.
"Then what the bloody hell are you here for?"
“I’m here to try get you too remember yourself… and me.” Thomas declared. Newt's expression shifted from anger to confusion. "What the hell are you talking about?" he asked, his voice laced with suspicion.
Thomas leaned closer, his eyes fixed on Newt. "I'm talking about the chip in your neck. I know Chancellor Paige put it there to control you."
Newt's eyes widened in surprise. "What in the bloody hell are you talking about?" Thomas raised an eyebrow, “you didn’t know?” He asked, extremely confused. “No I didn’t know! Cause there isn’t one th- ah! What was that for!?” Newt yelled at him, Thomas had touched the chip and it had sent an electric shock through newts body.
Thomas spoke firmly, "That was the chip implanted in your neck."
Newt's glare remained, his defiance unyielding.
Despite the memory loss, his stubborn nature remained as strong as ever, "Bullshit." Newt muttered under his breath, frustration clear in his voice. "Are you trying to tell me that this whole time, there was a bloody chip in my neck?"
“Yes, that is what I’m telling you.” Thomas replied, glaring a bit at Newt. Newt scoffed in response, “I would’ve noticed by now.” “No you wouldn’t have. Not if they erased that section of your memoir every time you do realise or remember something from before. Which is why you don’t remember our conversation.” Thomas said bluntly. Newt just blinked at him, completely speechless, “your lying to me…” he muttered, “you have to be…” “I’m not,” Thomas said softly, having realised this probably really hard for newt to hear, “I promise you I’m telling you the truth” newt stared at him, eyes beginning to water, “so everything I remember… everything I believed in was… a lie?”
“Yes.” Thomas replied firmly, newt looked at the floor unsure of what to say, “leave me alone…” he muttered after a minute. Thomas hesitated before getting up and leaving.
As Thomas shut the door behind him, he swore he could hear muffled sobs and that just broke his heart even more.
