Chapter Text

Annie still had bad days, where the grief would take over, but now she had meds for that. She’d take them and she’d feel better. But today she didn’t feel like taking them. She didn’t see a point. Eventually by the time it had been night she had remembered too much to do with her games, and Finnick…

She fell asleep, salty tears created tracks on her face until she was knocked out into a terrifying nightmare. It was so realistic.

First it was Finnick’s death, him being torn apart by mutts as his screams echoed around the ladder. He tried climbing up and this time Annie was there, on the ladder, just far away enough that the mutts or Finnick can’t reach her but still able to watch in detail. She kept on trying to reach out, begging him to take her hand, trying to help him, but it didn’t work. Then as his head was torn off it switched to her back in the 70th games. She knew what was going to come next all too well, her district partner got his head cut off. She was screaming. Screaming. Screaming. Screaming.

“Mum? Wake up.” A voice came making Annie open her eyes. She didn’t fully hear the first part. The figure looked a lot like Finnick. Was this after her games? He looks 19 and beautiful as ever. Was this all just a really bad nightmare.

“Finnick, is that you? Was all of it a nightmare?” She asked, her voice had a sense of happiness it hadn’t had for a long time.

“It’s me mum, dad is dead remember.” Her son told her, trying to break the news to Annie in her panicked state. It Didn’t work too well as she started hyperventilating and crying.

“He was so close this time, I thought I could reach him” she said through gasped sobs, reaching out for her son, although maybe she thought she could still try reach Finnick.

“It’s ok” he told her again and again until she returned her breathing to a normal pace. He stayed hugging her.

“Just try sleep again and don’t forget to take your meds tomorrow, I won’t be here to remind you anymore.” He told her.

“Alright baby, I didn’t mean to scare you, I hope I didn’t, it’s just been really hard.” She told him, hoping he wouldn’t resent her for her unstableness.

“It’s not your fault, you were a child when most of this happened I know, because you told me and I know losing dad wasn’t easy, if I lost someone as much as you loved him I’d never be whole again”

“Goodnight sweetie” she told him as he left her room, his footsteps padding down the hall, the sound of a door opening and shutting. Now she can try to sleep again. She reached over to her bedside table drawer and took out a small framed photo. One of the happiest days of her life, her and Finnick and district 13 getting married. Right during their kiss, it was beautiful. Captured every detail on his face.

“Good night Finn,” she told the photo as she fell into a sleep filled with dreams of her and Finnick having their happily ever after, then raising their son together. For once she was at peace. Finnick opened a door for her, she followed.
