Chapter 2: Licorice Cookie POV
......
“Ugh, We’ve been walking in circles for foreverrrrr.” Licorice Cookie grumbled.
“You want a shroomieeeee? It’ll make you feel a lot betterrrr,” Poison mushroom cookie said from on top of Licorice Cookie’s shoulders.
“You ask me one more time and I’m making you walk all by yourself.”
Poison Mushroom Cookie frowned, “You’re no funnnnn.”
As they continued their journey bumbling through the woods, a pleasant melody began to play. Licorice Cookie began humming along as the sound seemed to get closer and closer. Until of course he saw the source of the song. It was that cookie again, Clover Cookie, he remembered. That hat was far too pointy for him to forget. He was sitting on a stump, playing in a clearing. All the little critters gathered around him and listened to the enchanting music. Licorice Cookie tried, and failed to shuffle away discreetly, tripping on a rock and falling over.
Suddenly the music stopped as Clover Cookie got up to help the two fallen Cookies. “Are you two alright?” He asked, extending a helping hand.
Licorice Cookie declined the help, standing up by himself instead. He dusted himself off and huffed, “We are just fine. Leave us be! Go back to serenading wildlife or what have you! B-begone!”
Clover Cookie smiled, ignoring his demands, “Oh, I recognize you! Licorice Cookie, was it? Who’s this little purple guy you have with you?”
The small cookie smiled drowsily, “My name is Poiiiiiison Mushroom Coooookieee.”
“It’s very nice to meet you Poison Mushroom Cookie. I am Clover Cookie.”
“Clooover Coooookie… Hehehe, want a shroomie?” Poison Mushroom Cookie said, materializing a small purple mushroom from seemingly out of nowhere.
Clover Cookie shook his head and smiled, “I’m afraid I’ll have to decline, don't want to spoil my appetite for lunch, you know?”
Poison Mushroom Cookie sighed sadly but nodded.
Clover Cookie clapped his hands together and looked back to Licorice Cookie. “Now, where are you two headed?”
“It’s none of your business! Poison Mushroom Cookie let’s go!” Licorice Cookie turned dramatically, holding his hand out for the little one to take hold of; but he didn’t. “C’mon!”
“Can’t we take a breakkkkkk? We’ve been walking foreverrrr.”
“You haven’t taken a single step this whole time! You have no right to complain!”
“But we’re losttttt… howwwwww are we even gonna get thereeeeeee?”
“Lost?” Clover Cookie interjected, “I can help you all find your way!”
Licorice Cookie frowned. He just wouldn’t let up… “I guess a little bit of guidance wouldn't hurt…”
“Splendid! Shall we be off? Or I suppose a break was in order, yes?”
“Ughh, Fine!” Licorice cookie resigned to his fate. He knew it was no use arguing.
Clover Cookie took back his position on the stump and picked his lute up. Poison Mushroom Cookie sat right next to him, and Licorice cookie sat on the grass with his back against a tree. He crossed his arms and in general made an effort to look displeased with the situation, even though he did have to admit his legs needed a good rest. With a scowl planted firmly on his face he watched as they smiled and talked.. That Clover Cookie was annoyingly friendly. Just like all those other insolent cookies that stood in his path to executing Dark Enchantress Cookie’s plans. Well, maybe he wasn't just like them. His voice wasn’t nearly as grating. It was quite nice if Licorice Cookie was being perfectly honest with himself. His face wasn't nearly as punchable either. It was nearly the opposite. Nearly.
He suddenly felt a tiny tug on his robes. “Licorice cooooookieeee, what are you staring attttttt?” Poison Mushroom Cookie asked, a box in their other hand. He wasn't even sure when the little cookie had gotten so close. He could have sworn they were with Clover Cookie only a moment ago. He must have been lost in thought for quite some time, or maybe Poison Mushroom cookie had finally learned to be discrete. The latter was doubtful.
Licorice Cookie shook his head, “I’m not staring at anything. What uhm- what’s in the box?”
“Clover Cookie saaaaaid we could split hiiiiis lunch!”
Licorice Cookie looked up at this stupid good samaritan of a cookie. Clover Cookie looked back at him and smiled. Curses! Why was he so- so- Licorice Cookie didn’t even know how to describe him. He took half of the sandwich that was in the box and ate it, trying to seem as if he wasn’t grateful; like this gesture was somehow an inconvenience to him. But Clover Cookie just smiled and laughed quietly to himself, completely unbothered by his facade. It almost felt as if he found it amusing.
They finished eating and finally set off to their destination. Poison Mushroom Cookie hitched a ride with Clover Cookie instead. It was a little odd that they got acquainted so quickly, but it saved Licorice Cookie’s back some trouble so he accepted it. He looked over at the two of them as Clover Cookie led them through the forest. The warm sunlight always seemed to hit him in just the right way, highlighting his silky white hair and his gentle smile and his stupid crystal blue eyes. It had to be sorcery of some sort. Some distraction spell or- or something like that. Whatever it was, it was driving him mad.
“Well, this is your stop, travelers! May luck follow you in your adventures today!” Clover Cookie said as they arrived at their destination.
“Yes, well uhm,” Licorice Cookie cleared his throat, “Thank you, Clover Cookie… even though we could have done it ourselves, I do appreciate the help… I guess.”
“Happy to be of service my friend. May fate bring us together once more.”
“Uh, right…”
