Echoes of the Multiverse

Chapter 2: Apostle:Zero - A-300 Humanoid Mech: Berserker

Chapter Text

The screen lit up to show Subaru sent to a pretty vacant room, it was just empty until a certain figure jumped from above and landing at the center. Bask from the dust that scattered through the room a monstrous figure emerges — a terrifying fusion of machine and primal menace. Its body is composed of thick, gunmetal-gray armor plating, every panel carved with angular lines. The metal surface glistens under dim lighting, but it’s not the sheen of polish — it's the gleam of cold, functional steel built for war. A wicked crown of jagged, bone-white hair erupts from its head like a mane of blades, spiking out in every direction as though electrified by some otherworldly energy. It frames a singular, glowing red eye that pierces the dark with an eerie intensity. This eye, set deep into a head that resembles a demonic skull, pulses like a warning beacon — or a predator's unblinking stare. Its arms are massive and unnaturally bulky, each ending in clawed hands gripping sleek, dual axes that look like they were carved from obsidian and laced with crimson veins. The weapons hum softly with a mechanical resonance, suggesting an advanced internal power source — and perhaps a sinister intelligence of their own. Legs thick as stone pillars support the weight of this monstrosity, every footstep landing with the muffled boom of a war drum. Its posture is aggressive, slightly hunched, ready to pounce or strike with no hesitation — a predator coiled to unleash devastation. Subaru looked at the figure and his instincts screamed danger; he was shaking in fear but he was not running away from this battle.

Felt: W-What is that?! (She blurted out, eyes widen in alarm)

Rem: That’s not… that’s not something Subaru-kun can handle alone. But Subaru-kun … he’s still standing. He’s… he’s afraid. But he’s not running.  (She whispered, her voice tight, a fist clutched tightly to her chest.)

Beatrice: It's like… like a golem from some forbidden spell… How is betty’s Subaru supposed to fight that? (She muttered, gripping the hem of her dress tightly, her normally dismissive tone colored with visible dread.)

Emilia: What is he supposed to do against that? Subaru… please run away… it’s too dangerous! (Her eyes glued to the screen, frozen wide. She whispered with a tremble in her voice she couldn’t hide)

Roswaal: It's a monster that was built to kill (He murmured with uncharacteristic seriousness, his usual sing-song cadence falling away as he narrowed his eyes.)

Garfiel: Captain is gonna win this battle, I know he can!

Julius: It’s unthinkable — to pit Subaru much less a young child against something like that with no support.

Reinhard: He’s scared. But he’s brave. Braver than most knights I’ve known.

Mimi: GYAAAAHHHHH!! WHAT IS THAT THING?! Mini-boss has to fight THAT? (She screamed, leaping onto the back of an already unnerved Ricardo, tail fluffed up like a bush.)

Crusch: That construct… it’s not just brute strength. It’s military-grade engineering — it was designed to crush resistance. Ruthlessly efficient. A weapon, not a warrior. Subaru, please be safe… (She muttered that last line under her breath)

Before Subaru could even react, the being known as Berserker let out a devastating roar that shook the entire room. As Subaru finished covering his ears and opened his eyes after the deafening scream, he noticed something dangerous — Berserker was already charging toward him. Just as the mech’s heavy swing came down, Kuro intercepted with a counter parry. The machine repeated the attack, and Kuro met it again, matching its relentless blows. Seizing the moment, Subaru dashed backward to create space between himself and the clash. But Berserker suddenly raised both arms into the air, conjuring a pulsing energy orb, and hurled it straight at Subaru. In a flash, Kuro executed a perfect parry, reflecting the orb back at the mech. The impact temporarily stunned Berserker, giving Subaru the opening, he needed. Without hesitation, he launched his grappling hook and zipped toward the mech’s chest — aiming for the glowing destruction point at its center. With precision and urgency, Subaru unleashed a flurry of rapid light attacks, striking over and over during the brief window of vulnerability.

Julius: Impossible… He matched that blow? The timing was… perfect. (He murmured, eyes gleaming with both disbelief and admiration.)

Rem: Subaru-kun is actually doing it! (wide-eyed)

Beatrice: Of course, Betty Subaru is amazing! A scary monster like that stands no chance against my contractor!

Emilia: Keep hitting it, Subaru! Don’t stop! (She called out instinctively, eyes glistening with fear and hope.)

Garfiel: Look at ‘im go. That’s my damn captain, alright. Stupid, reckless, gutsy son of a— BEAT ITS ASS CAPTAIN!

Otto: This is insane… That isn’t a normal battle. That’s a death trap! He’s fighting a war machine like he’s… like he’s some kind of soldier!

Ricardo: Damn, kid got more guts than most warriors I’ve met, that boy’s a warrior. A damn fine one. (He leaned back, folding his arms with a small grunt of respect.)

Al: HOLY SHIT BRO, did not know you had that in you! NOW THIS IS A BATTLE WORTH SEEING! KEEP GOING BRO!

Priscilla: Hmph, that fool of a commoner is still alive? Even in the face of such… grotesque opposition. How unsightly that construct is. All steel and noise, lacking refinement. Disgusting. But I must admit... here’s something entertaining about watching a dog bite a something that akin to a god.

Berserker regained its composure and launched itself into the sky. Subaru instinctively backed away as he saw it ascend. In a flash, the mech came crashing down at terrifying speed — and upon impact, released a wave of red electrical energy that tore across the floor. Luckily, Subaru dodged just in time, leaping high over the wave as it scorched past beneath him.

No time to breathe.

Berserker raised its hands again, energy gathering in a violent surge above its head. Just then, Kuro shouted a sharp warning — and Subaru reacted instantly, diving out of the way. A blinding red laser beam erupted from the machine’s attack, cutting across the room and melting the steel wall it struck. The heat shimmered in the air. The metal hissed and dripped like wax. Subaru stared at the warped, molten remains in brief horror — but clenched his fists, steeled his resolve, and turned his focus forward.

The battle wasn’t over, far from it.

Rem: That was too close… Subaru-kun would have vaporized from that attack. (She flinched when the electrical wave erupted across the ground, eyes wide with horror as she watched Subaru leap at the last possible second. The red energy lit the screen like a hellish sunrise.)

Beatrice: That thing... it uses energy like it’s casting magic without rules, Subaru would have been atomized if he was even a second late, I suppose… And yet, he doesn’t back down. Foolish... completely foolish… But he’s, my fool.

Crusch: Kuro seems to be reading that thing’s movement like a solider. He’s adapting. Surviving. Even against odds that no one in their right mind would face.

Felix: That machine’s raw power… it’s terrifying, And that kid—he’s nothing but guts and stubbornness. Reckless as ever nya~ (His usual sly grin was gone, replaced by a furrowed brow as his sharp green eyes followed Subaru’s narrow escape from the searing electrical wave. His fingers twitched, curling into claws.)

Anastasia: The sheer destructive force… it’s unlike anything I’ve seen, He’s fighting a battle most wouldn’t dare face. It’s… admirable. But also, terribly dangerous.

Hetaro: Subaru dodged that by a hair! That red thing could’ve torn him apart. Man, I don’t care how strong that thing looks — Subaru’s got the heart to match it. If he keeps fighting like that… maybe he can win.

Felt: LIL BRO IS AMAZING; HE IS MATCHING THAT THING LIKE NOTHING! But that was a close call, way to close!

Reinhard: I agree Felt-sama, Subaru is currently fighting for survival and thankfully for Kuro; he has a chance of winning this battle.

Petra: That was so scary… Subaru-nii almost got hit by the big red thing. It looked like fire! But he’s still standing! That’s amazing! I know he can do it!

Frederica: That machine’s power is unlike anything I imagined, Subaru-sama will power is impressive. I pray he comes out successful from this battle.

Emilia: No… no, Subaru! Why… why must he face such danger? He’s not a warrior like Reinhard or Julius… he’s just Subaru. He shouldn’t have to endure this. (She buried her face in her hands for a moment, overwhelmed.)

Subaru used his ability to fire a shot of energy from across the room, directly hitting the bot. However, Berserker simply looked at Subaru — unfazed. In an instant, he hurled both of his axes toward Subaru. At the last possible moment, Kuro performed a parry, which in turn sent the axes flying back at the bot, stunning it once again. This allowed Subaru to strike the destruction point once more. The battle followed a brutal cycle — dodge and counter Berserker’s attacks, wait for an opening to stun him, then strike the destruction point to deal massive damage. However, Subaru accidentally tripped over his own feet — a mistake Berserker quickly took advantage of. Kuro tried his best to dodge the incoming attack, but with a heavy swing from the bot... He hit Subaru with the back of one of the axes, sending the boy flying into the metal wall and causing him to spit out blood. Kuro immediately began healing Subaru as he tried to regain his focus in the fight, only for Berserker to strike again—this time slamming the ground and unleashing electrical waves that shocked Subaru. His body would have been fried if Kuro hadn’t desperately ensured the healing took effect at the critical moment. After Kuro healed him, the pain diminished quickly, allowing Subaru to dodge another strike from the devastating laser. This time, however, instead of firing straight, Berserker twisted the beam at a 90-degree angle in an attempt to kill Subaru.

Rem: The moment he tripped… my heart stopped, But Kuro’s healing… it was like a lifeline thrown just in time. (She whispered, voice breaking with desperation. Her eyes widened, tears threatening to spill as she clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms.)

Reinhard: That strike was brutal—almost fatal. This machine’s precision is ruthless, but Subaru’s resilience… it is no less formidable (His voice was calm but heavy with concern.)

Julius: Subaru’s cycle of attack and defense is smart… but he cannot afford mistakes like tripping.

Mimi: Mini-boss is just a kid right now, its not his fault if he trips by accident

Julius: I know Mini but Kuro’s healing saved him, but the fight is far from over. This opponent adapts quickly; Subaru must stay vigilant. (His eyes darkened at the last statement)

Emilia: The way he flew back… it was so violent. But Kuro’s healing light wrapped around him like a protective shield. He’s so brave… but please be safe, Subaru.

Felt: Damn it! He’s gotta watch his footing! Lil bro’s tougher than he looks — and with Kuro’s help, he’s still in this fight. (Felt’s eyes sparked with renewed hope.)

Roswaal: Hm, quite the spectacle but that stumble… such a delicious flaw in an otherwise tenacious foe. Still, the boy’s persistence is admirable. Kuro’s healing timing—exquisite precision.

Ram: Carelessness like that could have gotten him killed. But Kuro’s healing—thankfully—was swift. Barusu needs to focus. This is no game to lose.

Priscilla: A clumsy stumble from the ‘hero’, Such desperation… it’s almost endearing. But if he can dodge that twisted laser, maybe there’s hope he won’t embarrass himself completely.

Wilhelm: That hit was brutal, Kuro’s healing saved him, but the fight’s far from over. This is a battle of endurance — and only the strong will survive.

After dodging the strike, Subaru once again rushed toward the bot, and Kuro started to counter every move once more after a brief pause. The destruction point appeared again, and Subaru, alongside Kuro, delivered one devastating blow that sent the bot flying back into the wall and crashing face-first onto the ground. Subaru thought he had won—but then Berserker got back up and let out an extremely loud roar. His metallic horns and axes glowed orange, and his aura surged violently around him, distorting the air like heatwaves on a summer road. The ground beneath his feet cracked from the sheer pressure of his power, and the lights in the arena flickered as if reacting to his fury.

Subaru took a cautious step back, eyes widening.
“That should’ve knocked him out,” he muttered.

Emilia: Subaru, that was amazing! But that thing got back up? The way it roared… it gave me chills! It looks a lot more dangerous; I know you can do it just be safe! (Her silver hair shimmered as she leaned forward, violet eyes wide with awe.)

Rem: Subaru-kun… you were so brave. But it’s not over yet. (Her breath caught as the destruction point was struck. She clenched her fists, blue hair brushing her cheeks as she whispered)

Ram: Hmph. Barusu didn’t even finish it properly. And now the opponent horns started to glow now? At least Barusu isn’t completely useless in a fight. (She folded her arms, unimpressed on the surface—but her eyes were fixed on the scene.)

Beatrice: That aura... seems deadly, I suppose. Subaru is completely outmatched now. Even so, I know he won’t give up. Betty’s contractor is the greatest after all.

Otto: Why is it always this dramatic every time Subaru ends up in a battle?! (He looked horrified, eyes darting left and right.)

Garfiel: YEAH! That’s what I’m talkin’ about! That was a real hit, cap’n!” (Watching the bot crash into the wall, Garfiel bared his fangs in a proud grin.)

Felt: Okay, that was sick! You nearly flattened that hunk of metal! Although that dude’s pissed! Oi, Lil bro—better not die here, got it?

Mimi: Wooooaaah! Boom! Crash! Pwaaaaah! (She exclaimed, miming the blow with her little fists.)

Ricardo: That ain’t just a machine… That thing’s got a demon’s fury in its bones. But our boy’s still standin’. Gotta hand it to ya, Subaru. Now let’s see if ya got the guts to finish the job. 'Cause if that thing comes at ya again, there ain’t gonna be a second chance. (He let out a low whistle, his arms folded across his massive chest as he watched the scene unfold.)

Al: Oh brother, these things got a phase 2? It likes Berserker went into an “Overdrive” State. This is getting really exciting!

Berserker threw both of his axes, but Subaru dodged them. They embedded themselves into the wall behind him. Berserker then fired his laser again, this time with a sharp 90-degree turn. Subaru dodged it once more, catching his breath—but not for long. The axes came flying back toward Berserker like magnetic boomerangs, trailing bright red fire as they returned. Berserker jumped, attempting to land on Subaru, but Subaru dodged again. The bot tried a second time—missed—and a third, the impact lighting up the floor with electric currents. Berserker then unleashed a barrage of attacks. Kuro managed to dodge all but one, which struck Subaru in the chest. Kuro immediately healed him while launching a counterattack against the bot.

Crusch: The enemy is calculating... relentless, even so... he remains standing. That’s the kind of will only those with true conviction can show. Subaru and Kuro are fighting not only with strength—but with trust. (Her eyes fixed on the battle; arms crossed over her chest. The sharp clang of axes hitting the wall rang in her ears like a war bell.)

Reinhard: He dodged all of those attacks... But that last hit... (He whispered, fingers curling tightly) If only I were there— (He muttered that last part to himself for no one else to hear)

Julius: So reckless... yet so Subaru. Kuro’s reaction time is impeccable, their synchronization—it’s like a dance in the middle of war. Still... seeing Subaru hurt... it stings more than it should (His hand tightened around his rapier’s hilt.)

Hetaro: Waaaaah!! That laser turned in mid-air?! And those axes?! They came back on fire!! What kind of insane boss fight is this?! Kuro-nee is so cool! Like pew pew BAM!”

Emilia: Why do he have to keep risking himself like this... He didn’t choose to battle; it hurts seeing him in pain.

Petra: Subaru-nii... no, please don’t get hurt... He’s... he’s always protecting everyone. Even when he’s scared... Let him Come back safe...

Anastasia: Well now... that’s one way to keep things spicy, Mmm... He’s too reckless for someone with no backup plan. (She tilted her head, her fox scarf, Echidna, watching silently.)

Rem: He’s pushing himself again... too far... But Kuro... thank you for protecting Rem’s hero

Roswaal: Oooh... what a delicious show of violence and desperation~

The floors around them seemed to be pulled downward by some unseen force, causing the room's space to compress. Berserker jumped back and began charging an attack. He launched three energy orbs toward Subaru, but Kuro performed a perfect parry, redirecting the orbs back to their origin. The counter stunned the bot and revealed the destruction point. Without hesitation, Kuro used the hook to reel Subaru in, and the two unleashed a flurry of light attacks, combined with rapid mini-shot energy blasts, aiming to accumulate as much damage as possible during the brief window of opportunity. But the bot reawakened once again, firing its lasers—and the cycle began again.

Felix: Nyahaha... this is getting way too intense for comfort, Purr~fect counter, nya! That timing! Kuro’s got paws of steel! Subaru-kyun’s stuck in a loop with this bot... They can’t keep this up forever.

Tivey: Th-The room’s... shrinking? It feels like they’re fighting inside a collapsing beast! They’re trapped in a pattern! Like prey in a predator’s rhythm… (He was stiff as a board, fists clenched at his sides, eyes wide with fear and awe.)

Priscilla: How dreadfully repetitive… yet the chaos carries a certain charm. Hmph. That servant, Kuro... his instincts are finely honed. I suppose that is worth a modicum of admiration. Still, how boring. A truly powerful foe should know better than to use the same trick multiple times.

Garfiel: GRRRRRAAAAH! That was SICK! That parry—BAM! Right back in the face! That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Tch. This bastard just won’t stay down... Captain better crush him to bits next time!

Al: Man, that whole ‘floor-sinking-compression-room-of-doom’ vibe? Grade A nightmare fuel. Aaand we’re back in the loop. Damn. You’d think the universe hates giving bro a break.

Wilhelm: They move like a single blade. The enemy adapts. If they do not break this rhythm, it will consume them. Strategy must evolve... or they will fall.

Following the pattern of countering the enemy’s abilities and waiting for the destruction point to appear had been working perfectly—they had executed it multiple times already. Parry the axes? Sent straight back at him. Parry the orbs? Like a perfect game of “return to sender.” Berserker let out one final roar, signaling the end of this relentless battle. He jumped backward once again, sending his axes flying. Subaru dodged them successfully. In response, the bot unleashed a devastating laser strike, but Subaru rolled to the left and kept running straight toward him. This time, Berserker began channeling all his remaining energy into one massive energy ball and hurled it at Subaru. Acting on instinct and using every last bit of strength, Kuro performed a perfect parry, deflecting the energy ball back toward its source. The resulting impact exposed the destruction point one final time. Without hesitation, Kuro used the hook to launch Subaru directly into the fray, and together, they unleashed everything they had on the stunned bot. In a finishing move, Kuro formed a long knife-like blade and struck Berserker with a clean slash, creating a giant red arc of energy that burst from the bot’s body like blood. Berserker collapsed to his knees, sparks flying from his frame—unable to continue the fight.

Subaru and Kuro had won.

The theater erupted in overwhelming joy and applause as Subaru and Kuro triumphantly defeated the towering metal giant, captivating the audience with their incredible victory.

Emilia: Kuro… Subaru… You did it… I knew you would. (Tears welled in her eyes, with her hands clasped tightly over her heart, her breath caught in her throat.)

Rem: Subaru-kun… thank you for living. For winning. (Her knuckles were white as she gripped the edge of her seat, body tense, eyes locked on Subaru. When Kuro sent Subaru into the final strike, Rem felt her heart stop. And then—victory. That red arc. The collapse. She exhaled, finally, a hand brushing over her chest)

Beatrice: Return to sender, I suppose… How poetic. My contractor is magnificent, I suppose. (Sitting on her contractor laps, clenching his knees while watching the screen)

Otto: What even are those two?! They’re like—like magic and chaos dancing! Note to self: never, ever, EVER pick a fight with this Subaru. Good job Subaru.

Garfiel: YEAH! That’s my captain! That’s how you end a fight! That blade—pure primal instinct. Tch, beautiful. He’s always pushin’ past his limits. One day, I’ll catch up.

Petra: You really did it, Subaru-nii! You’re amazing! (She had both hands clutched over her mouth, tears brimming.)

Frederica: That wasn’t just strength. That was trust. Well done, both of you. (She allowed herself a smile as Berserker collapsed.)

Ram: Hmph. Took them long enough. Even Barusu can shine with the right partner, Don’t get cocky. (When the bot fell, she smiled—just barely.)

Roswaal: Ooooh~ how exquisite! To see Subaru-kun win... now that’s a twist I find fascinating.

Felt: Now that’s how you end a fight! Kuro's a badass, and Lil Bro got guts, I’ll give you that.

Reinhard: That level of timing… the courage to rush forward in the face of overwhelming power… Well done, Subaru. That was the sword of your soul. (His expression was soft, almost proud.)

Crusch: Subaru... you reckless, brilliant fool. He did it. He survived; He came back alive. (A faint smile graced her lips—not the composed smile of a noblewoman or a commander, but something gentler. More personal.)

Felix: Nyaaaa~! That was soooo cool! Subaru-kun, was amazing! (He jumped up with joy.)

Wilhelm: That was not luck. That was resolve made manifest. This Subaru has grown. (He lowered his gaze in respect.)

Julius: That... was beautiful. The trust between Subaru and Kuro... no words can describe that execution. I acknowledge this victory fully.

Anastasia: Well, ain’t that somethin’ Talk about takin’ control of the battlefield. Kuro’s got instincts sharper than steel. And Subaru? He’s such a wildcard here, Love it.

Ricardo: Now that’s how you finish a fight! Boom, pow, slash! Gotta love the classics! Subaru, you might not be a beast on the surface, but deep down? You’ve got the heart of one.

Mimi: AAAAAAHHH THAT WAS SO COOL!! The BIG orb went zoom and Kuro went bam! and then mini-boss went whoosh!! I wanna fight like that toooo!

Tivey: They actually beat it. I thought it was impossible... (As the bot fell, he gasped with relief.)

Hetaro: That was smart. Dangerous, but smart. They timed everything just right. They knew each other’s limits... and pushed past them. (He glanced at Mimi bouncing beside him and smiled faintly.)

Priscilla: A dazzling finale to an otherwise tedious battle, That slash at the end—finally some artistry.

Al: Yo! That was nuts! The freakin’ orb got sent back! I thought they were toast! That red slash? 10/10 anime finish. Damn, bro. You did it.

Subaru walked up to the defeated bot; his eyes darkened. Kuro then struck Berserker’s left hand, causing it to fall off with blood spewing out. He proceeded to strike the right hand next, gripping it tightly with one of his own. Kuro then struck the top of the bot’s head and began pulling it with force. With his other hand—still holding Berserker’s severed hand—he grabbed the bot’s lower body, while his second hand continued to pull at the head. Kuro then struck the top of the bot’s head and began to pull it with force. Using his other hand—the one still holding Berserker’s severed hand—he grabbed the bot’s lower body, while his first hand continued pulling at the head. After a moment, Berserker’s head was torn off, along with his spine, exposing artificial bone and wiring. To finish it off, Kuro used the spine to strike the bot’s body, leaving it like a gruesome flag—Berserker’s head as the banner and his spine as the pole. The screen faded to black, signaling the end of Berserker.

Al: HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS BRUTAL! Kinda reminds me of Mortal Kombat… FATALITY!

Felt: HOLY FUCK! THAT WAS AMAZING! But brutal!

Reinhard: Felt-sama please mind your language but this scene was slightly disturbing to see a younger Subaru killed an enemy so brutally.

Emilia: Subaru killed that berserker? Subaru is a good boy; I know it was for his survival but seeing him kill something like this makes me feel uneasy…

Ricardo: What an execution, didn’t think he had it in him.

Frederica: So violent, Subaru-sama of this world did not show any hesitation to finishing the job.

Felix: Nya~ Subaru-kun looks distant, his eyes seem lifeless when doing this.

Al: Can’t blame him Blue, this world he is in; its kill or be killed.

42nd day of the siege of Palanlak, March 29th in the 362nd year of the kote calendar.

The screen shifted, a thick silence hung over the battlefield, broken only by the faint crackle of distant gunfire and the steady drip of something dark pooling beneath the fallen colossus. There, sprawled across the cracked earth, lay a giant of metal and steel—once an unstoppable force, now a shattered monument to defeat. Its hulking frame, composed of heavy plates of worn armor and intricate mechanical joints, was marred by deep wounds that bled a strange, almost unnatural crimson. Chains bound the fallen giant, anchored to iron stakes driven harshly into the ground, holding the massive body in place like a beast subdued and captured. The chains pulled taut against its limbs, their coarse links scraping against the jagged metal, a cruel reminder that even in death, this giant could not rise again. Around the corpse, shadowed figures of soldiers stood vigil, rifles gripped tightly, eyes scanning the scene with a mix of awe and caution. Their faces were obscured by the dim haze, but their posture spoke volumes — a fragile mix of triumph, exhaustion, and unspoken dread. The battlefield had been claimed, but victory here felt hollow, as if the cost had reached beyond the physical. The ground beneath them was cracked and stained, the eerie red pooling like spilled ink under the towering frame, a stark contrast against the cold, hard stone. Dust and smoke swirled softly, blurring the edges of the giant’s broken armor, the echoes of its fall still whispering through the air. This was no ordinary enemy. This was a titan brought low, its silence louder than any roar it had ever made. The soldiers’ weapons remained poised, as if expecting the impossible — the giant to awaken once more from its iron tomb.

Al: Another memory? This one seems interesting…

Roswaal: Oh, such delicious tragedy wrapped in steel and blood! And yet, the silence screams louder than any battle cry. The true story lies beneath the surface…

Felt: That thing’s huge! And chained up like a monster! Feels like it could wake up any second

Felix: Nyaa… That’s a lot of blood for just one fight. Something about this doesn’t sit right… like it’s just waiting to pounce again.

Julius: To bind such a force is an accomplishment

Tivey: Why do I feel like this isn’t the end? Like it’s just sleeping, waiting for them to drop their guard.

Mike: How the hell did you do that? That metal bastard could withstand the firepower of a whole damn troop. And you never use more than one sniper round.

Horace: I do not know, hunter’s intuition, I guess… Back when I was hunting, I could see something flowing through, like nodes in the prey’s body. Shooting at them always seemed to take ‘em down. Didn’t expect it to work on these tin heads.

Mike: None of the other hunters have that ability even the ones from your region. It’s absolutely incredible. I’m just happy we’re in the same platoon. We’re definitely gona-

Mike was interrupted as Horace turned to see that he had been vaporized by a devastating red laser, leaving only Mike’s skeleton. The mechanical beast, still alive, stared at Horace with a bright red eye.

Horace: Noooooooo! Mike!!! These things are resilient as hell. They won’t stop until they’ve breathed their last breath… If they’re even alive. To ensure we don’t suffer any more casualties, after they’re down, we’ve gotta completely annihilate them.

The screen fades to black signaling the end of the flashback.

Emilia: That laser… it’s merciless…

Rem: That red eye… it shows no mercy. (Holding her stomach, trying her best to not throw up from the gruesomeness)

Beatrice: A single laser… vaporized a man instantly. This is no ordinary foe. Subaru was just fighting an enemy with that laser, if it was to hit him (She shut her eyes tight, hugging her sleeping contractor)

Otto: That was… brutal. Mike didn’t stand a chance. (He swallowed hard)

Garfiel: That laser… it’s like a death sentence. (His jaw clenched tightly, anger flaring in his eyes.)

Petra: It’s so cruel… so fast… (Her eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at the remains of Mike.)

Ram: A mechanical beast like this… it’s pure destruction. (Her gaze was sharp and cold.)

Felt: That laser… it just erased him! How can anyone fight something like that? (Her eyes were wide with shock and fear.)

Al: That was too quick, too deadly.

Priscilla: A lethal weapon. This mechanical beast won’t go down easy.

The screen shifts to show Wenny kneeling down, waiting for Subaru to awaken. Wenny moved in for a hug when Subaru woke up but was interrupted by Kuro, who thought it was an attempt to restrain or suppress the host.

Wenny: (Sob) I just wanted to say I’m glad you two got back safe…

Subaru: Kuro, let Wenny go…

Kuro: Battle#001 complete. Result: Victory. Combat Efficiency: 78%. Host status: Good

Subaru: Kuro’s incredible, he protected me like a million times.

Kuro: Rule 1- Protect the host

Wenny: Thanks, Kuro. That makes me feel really safe.

Subaru: Wenny? Are you alright? Why do you look so weird? (Wenny seems to be having a glitch effect on her body)

Kuro: Analyzing… The conscious entity “Wenny” is experiencing data loss caused by compiling packets suitable for network transmission protocols.

Wenny: Um… oh! I… it must be because I’ve been going to the intranet a lot recently. I just need to rest a bit, that’s all!

Crusch: Wenny seems to be hiding something from Subaru.

Al: Seems you noticed it as well, whatever she is doing is causing her to glitch out. I don’t know what would even happen if she fully glitches out. We have to hope she truly wishes to help Bro

Mimi: Glitchy Wenny? That’s scary… I hope she’s okay.

Petra: Is she going to be alright?

Roswaal: A fascinating mix of humanity and technology.

Wenny: Look, we’ve got to focus. I’ve obtained information on our next opponent. It’s a bio-weapon that uses hover cannons for combat, specializing in-dense projectiles barrages. Hehehe… But I’ve got the perfect expansion module to deal with that! We just need to make some adjustments to Kuro’s attack system.

Kuro: Scan results: No vulnerabilities or malware detected. Expansion module downloaded.

Wenny: (Sigh) I haven’t visited the intranet in years. It’s super dangerous there. They might even mistake you for a virus! How terrifying… But I promised I’d help! Trust me, this’ll be a piece of cake.

Subaru: Wenny, you need to be careful. If we came back one day and you weren’t here. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself!

Wenny: Thanks, Subaru. I’ll do my best. Don’t worry about me, okay?

Emilia: She’s so brave… even though she’s scared of that intranet, she’s still going through with it—for them.

Beatrice: Foolish girl, risking herself in a network that might delete her... But I suppose loyalty like that is admirable, I suppose. I hope she returns safely; I do.

Rem: Subaru-kun seem to care a lot about Wenny… (Jealous but relieved someone seemed to be caring about Subaru as well)

Otto: Bio-weapons? Sounds terrifying. But the way Wenny handles it with confidence… I couldn’t be that calm.

Garfiel: Damn... she’s gutsy. Scared outta her mind but still goes in head-first. I respect that. Like a certain captain I know…

Petra: I hope she doesn’t get hurt… I don’t want Subaru-nii to feel that pain again.

Felt: Tch, gutsy girl. Walking into a deathtrap like that? She’s got fire

Ricardo: She’s got real steel in her, I’ll say that.

Wenny: (Subaru still looks pretty upset, I wonder what’ll cheer him up) Subaru, do you want to play a video game?

Subaru: A VIDEO GAME? YES! I love games a lot! (His eyes shined of excitement)

Wenny: Ok, come here; this is Xanilus, a two-player game that the researchers passed around twelve years ago. I happened to be on the intranet back then, so I snagged a copy of it. The controls are simple and the goal is…

Subaru: I got it. Let’s start!

After playing for what seemed like an eternity, they came to a conclusion.

Wenny: Wow, we’re just about even! You’re really good at this!

Subaru: I’ve never played anything this fun before!

Kuro: Analysis of Wenny’s gaming abilities complete. Gaming history: 12 years. Skill Level: F+. Evaluation: Gaming history and skill level do not match. It is possible that the individual suffers from an intellectual disability.

Wenny: Kuro, what was the last part again? (Frustrated, angry at Kuro’s comment)

Kuro: It is possible that the individual suffers from an intellectual disability.

Wenny: Grrrr! I didn’t think you’d actually say it again! You wanna try me, Kuro?!

Kuro: Command received: Play Xanilus against Wenny. Combat algorithm adjustment complete. Reflex simulation adjustment complete. Combat execution initializing… Ready.

AFTER THE MATCH

Kuro: Result: Wenny achieved victory with a score difference of 3,842,350

Wenny: Ha! Even the AI I usually play with is better than you. You’d better practice, Kuro!

Kuro: Combat analysis complete: Wenny’s overall abilities have been re-evaluated. Combat algorithm optimized with a 23% increase in efficiency.

Subaru chuckled at the interaction between Kuro and Wenny

Subaru: (Geez… Looks like Wenny let me win. Kinda don’t wanna play anymore….)

Subaru looked at the platform where he has to head for his next battle, after a long stare; he exhaled.

Subaru: Let’s do this!

The screen fades to black. The theater lights dim, and a hush falls over the crowd.

In the seats around the stage, the cast and crew shared a mix of emotions—some chuckling over Wenny and Kuro’s banter, others still quietly weighed by Subaru’s journey. Laughter, tension, worry, and awe blended in the air like notes in a complex melody. Even in victory, the road ahead stretched long.

But for this moment… they had each other.

Emilia: He was smiling... even just for a moment. That makes me so happy. (Her hands gently pressed to her chest, eyes glistening)

Rem: He really needed that. Just a little bit of joy after everything he's faced. (Her eyes sparkled with pride—and maybe, just a touch of jealousy at Wenny getting so close.)

Beatrice: Betty’s Subaru deserved this time playing since it made him smile, then… it wasn't completely pointless, in fact.

Otto: Wait, that’s what helped him feel better? A random old game from that intranet? (Tilting his head, blinking)

Ram: Wenny’s skill level is F+ after twelve years. That’s beyond tragic. (stone-faced, with a single raised eyebrow)

Petra: Subaru-nii looked so happy! I’ve never seen him so into something! I wanna try Xanilus too! (She beamed, clapping her hands together; bouncing excitedly in her seat)

Garfiel: That grin was real. Ain’t seen that in a while in this world. And that Wenny chick’s got fire. I like her. (His arms behind his head, chuckling)

Frederica: It’s good that he found something… light. Even if just for a little while. (Smiling gently)

Roswaal: Mmmm~ A sweet reprieve between storms, perhaps? Fascinating, fascinating.

Julius: Even warriors need moments of stillness. That spark of joy in his eyes… I respect it.

Ricardo: Now that’s entertainment! I ain't laughed like that in weeks! Wenny got roasted! (Laughing heartily, slapping his knee)

Anastasia: Hmm… Wenny’s no strategist, but she knows people. Giving Subaru space to breathe—very smart.

Mimi: GAAAAAMES?! Why didn’t I get invited?! I’m really good at games too, I think! GAAAAAMES?! Why didn’t I get invited?! I’m really good at games too, I think!

Hetaro: Xanilus, Mimi! But sure! I’ll download it right after this!

Tivey: You two know we can’t play this rig- Never mind… (Decided to let them have the moment)

Felt: Can’t believe that was enough to get lil bro spirits up. (Leaning back with her arms crossed)

Reinhard: Subaru deserves every moment of peace he can find. This was a small but precious one. (Smiling gently, hands resting on his lap)

Wilhelm: Even warriors need respite. Joy tempers the blade of resolve. (Nodding solemnly)

Crusch: This brief reprieve is proof of his humanity. I commend it. He looks so at peace right now…

Felix: Awww~! Subaru was sooo adorable when he got excited! Nyahaha, I could just squish him! (Eyes sparkling, tail flicking)

Priscilla: Tch. Trivial distractions for lesser minds. However, that spark in his eyes—was not unpleasant.

Al: Bro deserved that respite, Oi, Ricardo. You saw how that Wenny girl looked at bro, yeah? All smiles and games... Think we’re gonna be watching a love story in the next few episodes?

Ricardo: BAHAHA! I was thinkin’ the same thing, pal! First, she’s lettin’ the kid win at video games—next thing you know, she’s makin’ him bento boxes and callin’ him 'darling'!

Al: Watch your back, bro. You’re about two boss fights away from your first NPC girlfriend.

The room goes dead silent for half a beat.

Rem: Girlfriend, you say? (Her sweet smile did not reach her eyes. The temperature in the room dropped five degrees.)

Al: Uhhh… I meant it as a joke! No need to bring out the death aura, miss maid!

Emilia: W-Well, it’s great that Subaru was happy and all, but I don’t think that means he and Wenny are, um… y’know... that close. (She glanced at Subaru quickly, cheeks pink; pouted)

Crusch: Making such flippant remarks about a man’s feelings—especially Subaru’s—is disrespectful. He is far more honorable than to fall for someone just because they play a game together. (Elegant but firm, arms crossed, eyes narrowing at Ricardo)

Petra: W-What’s that supposed to mean?! Subaru-nii not gonna just fall in love with some random girl because she played with him! (She pouted hard; cheeks puffed up)

Ricardo: Whoa, whoa! Calm down, ladies! Just pokin’ fun! Didn’t mean to start a war in here! (Holding his hands up, tail flicking defensively)

Al: Man, I forgot this dude’s got a whole reverse harem guarding his heart. Gotta be careful what we say. (Laughing nervously, whispering to Ricardo)

Notes:

First time EVER writing a fanfic — I’m just doing this for fun!
I’ve always loved reading Re:Zero reaction fanfics from different authors. Seeing Subaru get self-inserted into different games and shows was such a fun idea, so I decided to take a shot at it myself.

Just a heads-up: you're not about to read a fanfic written by someone who knows what they’re doing — because, heavens no… I can’t write! 😅
But I tried my best to write the characters faithfully, so hopefully you all enjoy it!
