Even though it had been Kevin’s idea to play exy, he seemed to be the one enjoying it the least. It had quickly gone from being a fun thing to Kevin wanting to take over the world and form an official team and compete in the olympics.
Kevin was like that.
Neil was still sidelined, but he enjoyed watching his friends make fools of themselves on purpose just because it made Kevin’s head explode. He enjoyed it even more when they focused, when they played their best and every move was calculated and perfect. No matter the teams, Kevin always won. Even when they made him play with the wrong hand, Kevin won.
Neil longed for the day he could hold a racket and join them.
He was not quite there yet. His wrist was still in a cast. He had a fresh wound from a skin transplant on his thigh.
Neil sat in the grass with his burns and new scars and he watched as Andrew blocked yet another impossible shot with a straight face. Kevin looked like he didn’t know whether to be pissed off or ecstatic.
After, Andrew dropped down on the grass next to Neil. He snatched the water bottle from Neil’s hand and drank, and Neil watched his sweaty throat as he swallowed. Wiping the back of his hand across his mouth, Andrew glared at him.
”What.”
Neil ducked forwards and kissed the sweat off Andrew’s neck. He was swatted away, of course, but he saw how Andrew’s ears turned pink and when he asked for a kiss, Andrew fit their lips together.
