Work Text:
Wednesdays trip had come to rather a boring stop. Her uncle told her that they needed to find a place to stay overnight. But she knew it wasn’t his idea. Her other must had somehow gotten to his head. Her uncle never stopped, and if he did, she would rather sleep on the ground than a motel.
Wednesday stood next to her bed, knowing she’d rather die of tiredness than lie down for just a second. Uncle Fester had already found his comfort in the way too large room. He had somehow gotten a straightjacket, and was curled into it like a puppy in a blanket. She could leave now. She could take the scooter and drive towards Enid. And she’d be alone. She enjoyed spending time with her uncle, but now it wasn’t a case they were investigating, it was rather her roommate werewolf on the loose. And every time Enid was brought up, it felt like her brain zapped her whole body. It made her paralysed for at least a second before finally being able to open her mouth. At first, she thought it was Fester. That he was the one making sparks in her head. When she had confronted her about it, he had only given her a cackle and a smirk like he knew it all. But then, Wednesday felt the spark when she was alone as well while questioning where Enid might be or how she was.
So it wasn’t her uncle. She hadn’t dared to think about it further.
She shot another look over to her uncle, already snoring like a cow. Now was her time. She grabbed his keys that were on the nightstand right next to his bed as quietly as possible. One sound and she was busted.
That went smooth, then it was only the door left. She didn’t have trouble at all, walking out like she was never supposed to sleep there at all.
Now it was time to get away-
"Wednesday"
Wednesday froze, but the voice didn’t come from behind her. And it didn’t sound even close to his voice. So it was something ahead of her. Whom was not there.
"Agnes"
The girl got visible in under a second, standing as close to the black haired girl as she could possibly let her. "How did you find me?" She asked, crossing her arms. Agnes was a valuable partner, but she didn’t have time for chit-chatting.
"How did you find me?" Agnes tilted her head, confused. "I’m staying here with my dad. He decided to take a little trip before we came home."
"So you decided to become invisible when you heard I was here? Why not just show your curls?"
Agnes smiled, no words spoken.
"I have to go." Wednesday walked around the ginger, heading over to the scooter.
"To find Enid?"
Wednesday froze in her steps. The zap ran down her back again. No uncle Fester. Maybe it had been Agnes all along. She could turn herself invisible after all.
"Wild guess"
Wednesday jumped on the scooter, ready to start driving away.
"Wait! Aren’t you here with your uncle?" Agnes asked, stopping her friend from leaving.
"I’m guessing you got into our room."
"Maybe, but you shouldn’t leave him alone."
Wednesday rolled her eyes in disbelief. "He’ll be fine with his straightjacket."
"Wednesday" Agnes sighed. Then, she lit up, a big smile covering her face. "I have a better option, actually."
"And that is?"
"My car"
Wednesday blinked. "I’m fine on my scooter."
"Well, with the car I can join! And your uncle."
"And your father is totally okay with this?" Wednesday asked.
"I’ll leave him a sticky note."
She though about it for a moment. She could just leave them both behind. That was the best option. She didn’t even know why she was considering the car. Perhaps being alone wasn’t the solution right now. Maybe in a few minutes it would.
"Fine."
_
Turns out, uncle Fester was totally down for it. Wednesday couldn’t say she was surprised. He wanted out of that bright and fancy motel as much as she wanted. Guess she was right about her mother.
"Are you sure he’s capable of driving?" Agnes whispered, concerned about their safest and probably the car’s. This was her fathers after all.
"No. I don’t think he’s gotten his drivers license yet."
"Well then shouldn’t you-" Agnes was cut off by her uncle suddenly picking up speed as he started the car, almost immediately crashing into another driving vehicle.
"Oh god" Agnes closed her eyes. "He didn’t even warm up the tires."
"This isn’t racing." Wednesday dryly responded. "We’ll be fine"
Wednesday had prayed and hoped Agnes would keep her mouth shut during the drive so she could hear her thoughts clearly. So she could think about Enid.
The spark. There it was again. She shifted. So silently and barely moving no one normal would have noticed. But Agnes wasn’t normal. "Thinking about Enid again?"
Wednesday shot her a glare that could kill, and if she had a knife, she would. But she’d probably loose it on the ground, because when Agnes uttered the blonde’s name, she would become paralysed. "No" was all she managed to utter. She could’ve thrown in something along the lines of: ‘I’m thinking of when to especially you two’ or anything along that matter. But she was too tired. One more word out of he mouth and she feared her eyes would close.
"Im sorry you had to watch her run away." Agnes looked right at Wednesday, ignoring how she hopefully knew the other girl didn’t want any conversation going on. "I can’t even begin to think about how much it hurts to loose your girlfriend."
Wednesday’s eyes widened. Her frown was dragged down while doing so.
She turned to face Agnes, shock and anger blended into one emotion covering her gaze.
"Finally someone said it!" Her uncle yelled from the seat ahead of Agnes.
"What do you two mean?" Wednesday asked, genuine confusion in normally snappy tone.
"Well since you and Enid are togeth-"
"Together?"
Agnes nodded, not sure where this was going.
"Me and Enid are roommates. Nothing more. I tolerate her as a human being."
"Ha, right!" Fester shot in. "Would you go all crazy if someone else ran away?"
Wednesday’s eyes were now fixated on him. "What do you mean?
"No normal person would rather sneak out then enjoy a cozy night wrapped in a straightjacket!"
Agnes shuddered. Wednesday felt like she was close to gnarling.
"Enid is a friend. Nothing more."
The two other decided to leave it at that, but she knew both Agnes and Fester would bring it back up again as soon as possible.
She hoped they would, cause it would send her double-spiralling. It was already bad enough now. Did she like Enid? Was she and Enid a couple without her knowing? Did everyone else think that?
Wednesday felt her already freezing veins run colder.
Did that have something to do with the little sparks that shot through her body when Enid came to her mind?
Paralysed for a brief second.
She looked down at her hands.
Pathetic.
She was in love with her werewolf roommate.
