Work Text:

It should not come as a shock that Abaddon carried some demonic traits even if he was limited due to the fact that he was stuck inside a childish form, and one of those traits was his desire for claws. He kept his nails at an extended length so he could scratch his enemies, and while this had been allowed for centuries, his new friends took issue with this. Nathan often complained about the scratches before his death, but his sister was much worse in that aspect. It took three incidents before Katherine reached her limit and started to trim his nails. Abandon hated this, but there wasn't much he could do to retaliate in his much smaller form, so he learned to live with it, or at least for the most part. It was when he learned the schedule that Katherine ran off of for his nail trims that issues arose. He acted like a feral cat.

It was almost an hour before the time scheduled for the trim when Abaddon hid himself in the vents. His nails had almost reached the length where he could draw blood with ease, and that was seen as an issue for Katherine. He hoped that he could hide in the vents until tomorrow and that Katherine would dismiss the idea of the nail trims this time around, but of course that's not how it worked. She looked for him. She found him in the vents and lured him out as if he were an actual cat. He cursed his love for Fruit Loops that moment.

“Unhand me!” Abaddon demanded as he was lifted out of the vents, squirming as he desperately tried to free himself. “I wish to be free! I'm a demon! I need claws!”

“Stop squirming.” Katherine ordered as he took the small child to the kitchen, making sure that her other kids were prepared before she put him down. “I told you that if you tried to catch the guests, you'd receive regular trimmings, and what did you do?”

“Scratched the guests.” Abaddon responded as he was tied to the chair, squirming a bit more as he came to terms with the situation. “I feel this is unfair.”

“You think this is unfair.” Katherine reiterated as she started to trim, unable to miss the innocent look the demon child handed her in return. “Do we need to discuss what you did to the furniture?”

Abaddon chose not to respond to that statement in the end, as he knew how that conversation would end. He instead sat there until the trim was over, and then he was freed. He missed his claws, but this is what happened when he allowed himself to have a family. He had to endure Nathan's love, Katherine's care, and normal torment from his.. cousins.. or at least that's how Katherine described them when others would ask about who he was. Nathan was his father, and due to his death, he was in Katherine’s care. Abaddon had once made a comment about how his existence wasn't enough to keep his father alive, but it seemed to bother them all too much when he acted like the child he was. He was a child. He was a demon. It was hard sometimes.

“Abaddon.” Katherine called out, which made the child freeze before he could crawl back into the vents. “Here.”

“Lollipop?” Abaddon asked as he looked at it, unable to hide his smile. “For me?”

“For not biting me this time.” Katherine responded as she helped the child with the wrapper, allowing him to crawl back into the vents afterwards. “Bath time is in an hour.. Behave, and you can have another.”

Notes:

I wanted to write more Abaddon fics this weekend, but I came down with the flu and didn't write as much as I wanted. Kudos and comments are always appreciated, thanks for reading.
