Work Text:
Aizawa pulled the door to his classroom open slowly. He was grateful his students knew by now that they needed to be in their seats and silent when the bell went off.
“Shut. Up.” Aizawa hissed, using his quirk to make sure the point got across. The teens in the room looked around confused, since they had already been silent when he walked in.
“My son is sick. Very sick. Stay quiet. This is a free period and so is Law and Ethics. I don’t care what you do as long as you don’t wake up my kid.” Aizawa stated, glaring harshly. The class remained quiet. Good. Aizawa nodded approvingly before moving to get his kid off of the baby carrier on his back.
The kid was small. Maybe three? His hair was a mop of green, and his freckles stood out in his flushed face. Shoji noted the kid’s emerald green eyes before they snapped closed.
The kid whimpered as his face was hit by the classroom lights. “Sh…” Aizawa hushed him, rubbing the boy’s back as he tucked his face into his chest. “Aoyama, please turn off the lights. You lot can handle working in the natural light only.”
Aoyama did as told while keeping the same wide-eyed stare as the other kids. Aizawa sighed.
“Sweetheart, you’re safe. Go to sleep, kid. I’ll be right here.” The boy whined again before finally settling down into a fitful slumber against him.
Slowly, Aizawa moved to pull his sleeping bag out from the podium and place it under his desk.
“Wake him and you’ll be expelled immediately.” Aizawa promised before disappearing under the desk with his kid.
“What the fuck…?” Kaminari whispered only for five people to whip towards his direction and shush him. Kaminari snapped his mouth shut. Shinso handed his blond friend a fidget toy, a quiet one, to keep him busy. Kaminari beamed brightly.
Eventually, Iida very carefully got up and made his way over to the blackboard. He picked up the chalk while glancing at their sensei and his kid under the desk. Both asleep.
-We should do our school work and study for the Mathematics test tomorrow-
Iida wrote, causing Kaminari, Ashido, Hagakure, and Kirishima to sigh in defeat.
The class moved as quietly as they could, grouping with their friends to start studying or finishing homework they’d been putting off.
For the next thirty minutes, the only sounds were the occasional cough, bag rustling, and paper moving.
Popping sparks caused everyone to snap their attention to Bakugou and Kirishima. The red-haired teen had his hands clamped over Bakugou’s palms with his quirk activated, both teens watching the desk in fear. There was a quiet huff and a displeased whimper before it was quiet once more.
Kirishima very slowly pulled away from Bakugou, giving his friend an apologetic look for grabbing him. Bakugou brushed it off, going back to his and Kirishima’s practice tests while trying harder to keep himself calm.
Dark Shadow, who was beyond energetic, eventually flew over to the blackboard to start drawing.
Tokoyami let his quirk do so, until there was a loud crack. Everyone turned and found Dark Shadow looking down at the fallen ruler stick on the floor with complete shock.
Everyone kept still.
There was some shuffling under the desk, but nothing more.
Fifteen minutes after Tokoyami gave Dark Shadow some paper to use instead of the board, Todoroki sneezed.
This usually wouldn’t be an issue, except this sneeze was prompted by Ojiro’s tail whiffing by his nose, and that unexpected reaction made Todoroki’s quirk activate.
Ojiro and Mineta were frozen instantly, frost crawling up their bodies while Yaoyorozu rushed forward to help put Todoroki’s uniform out when it caught fire.
The entire class broke into muted panic, Asui rushing over to help with the fire while Shoji and Sato pulled Mineta and Ojiro free from the ice and tried using their body heat to keep them warm.
“Da…” Everyone froze, even those trying to deal with the fire. “Sh… Izu. You’re ok. Ge’ some sleep, kid.” “Hmph.”
Kirishima moved first, smothering the flames around Todoroki with a bear hug as he kept his quirk active to prevent any injury.
Todoroki was forced to face the wall, using his opposite sides as little and quietly as possible to clean up the mess and keep his frozen victims warm. Sero helped Yaoyorozu patch Todoroki’s blazer as well.
It was a while after that, in the middle of what was usually Law and Ethics class, when Koda let out a loud, for him at least, yelp. Uraraka swiftly slammed her hand on the large teen’s desk, killing the rather large spider instantly. The slam made a few people jump before they turned to look at the desk.
Aizawa moved around under the desk, his leg eventually sticking out and into view before he went still again.
Uraraka felt her entire body go slack, falling backwards into Hagakure in her relief.
Jiro stood suddenly, flying towards the door as everyone watched in confusion. Right as she stepped outside, she was face to face with Present Mic, Yamada Sensei. The loud hero always threw their classroom door open with an excited shout for English class, so she intercepted him.
Jiro quickly explained the situation as the bell rang and Yamada let out a soft laugh. “Yeah, that sounds like Eraser. Thank you for letting me know, Little Listener. Head on inside, I’ll keep quiet.”
Jiro returned to her spot right as Yamada walked inside. He was quieter than the class thought possible, even his booted footsteps hardly making a sound.
Yamada eventually sat himself on the edge of the desk, his new message for the class written on the blackboard around Dark Shadow’s drawings.
-Today we’re going to be practicing singing in English!!!!-
Yamada leaned his head back, taking a deep breath as he smiled.
It started with humming. Soft and slow.
The class watched in confusion as Yamada’s voice steadily got louder and louder. Finally, he formed words. English words that most of the students recognized as an English lullaby.
“You are my sunshine~ My only sunshine~ You make me happy~ When skies are grey~” Yamada sang, voice smooth as silk and sweet as honey.
The hero eventually motioned for Iida’s small circle to start singing as well. He repeated the song, slightly slower than before as the group of five, Iida, Uraraka, Hagakure, Aoyama, and Ashido began. It was a little off key, but the words were clear.
Yamada motioned for Bakugou and Kirishima to join next, pointing for Todoroki and Yaoyorozu halfway through.
The singing was all just above a whisper, but no one could really notice that with how they all were focusing on getting the words and pitch right. Kirishima and Mineta were really off key, but no one called them out on it.
By the time the entire class was singing the song, Yamada had moved towards the board to start writing a new song with lyrics down.
Yamada started this new song alone, giving the teens time to hear the melody first.
“Wise men say~ Only fools rush in~ But I can’t help~ Falling in love with you~” Yamada sang, eyes closing as he relaxed with the words.
When English class ended, Yamada bowed dramatically and wrote one last message on the board.
-The Little Listener with Eraser loves bunnies, heroes, and quirks. Do with that what you will. I’ll let Midnight know to stay quiet.-
Then he was gone, leaving 1A to their own devices once more.
Midnight, Kayama Sensei, arrived with a large box in her arms. She erased Yamada’s words, leaving the drawings up to write her own messages.
-Choose the supplies you want. Make anything you can think of. Next class you will present your finished art piece to the class to explain what it is and why you made it.-
Welp, that explains Yamada’s last note.
“For the baby.” Todoroki whispered into Sato’s ear, making the taller teen snort despite himself. The drawing was… it was cute. It just reminded Sato about why Todoroki usually preferred the painting projects over the drawing ones. Still, it was clearly a drawing of Aizawa holding the kid he brought in.
Aoyama’s project left Hagakure and Uraraka covered in excess glitter.
Asui made a nice friendship bracelet set to give the kid so he could hand them out to whoever he wanted.
Jiro’s jaw dropped when she spotted the sketch Bakugou was making. Why do the guys with the worst personalities always need to be the best artists?
Shinso just did a small collage art piece with a bunch of cat pictures he took at the shelter recently. Koda noticed it and showed that his art was the exact same only with dogs.
“Dadda…” The soft cry interrupted everyone in the last few minutes of class. “Izu, you’re alright kid. I’m right here.” The boy started to cry, which prompted Aizawa to finally get out of his sleeping bag and emerge from the desk.
“Let’s get some food, alright, Problem Child? Sh… Baby, you’re ok. I know it hurts.” He soothed the kid, slowly walking out of the door with a parting glance and approving nod to his class.
A full minute after Aizawa left, the class broke into loud cheers of celebration.
Since their homeroom teacher was usually out for the afternoon, 1A didn’t see the man or his kid until the following day.
“Everyone.” Aizawa called out as he threw the door open. Everyone was quiet and in their seats. “This is my son, Izuku. He’s feeling better, but please keep it down. You did well yesterday, so we’ll be having a stealth-based test in heroics soon to test your skills properly. Izuku, go on.” The boy, Izuku, toddled forward with a wide grin on his face. “H-hi! I’m Izu-zuku Aizawa!” He beamed, bowing with a slight and adorable stumble.
The girls cooed and awed along with some of the guys while others remanded quiet.
“Izuku, go sit down. Do you want a notebook?” “Mhm!” “Alright, Problem Child.”
Little did the class know that notebook would later be the baseline for their quirk strengthening assignments in the summer camp.
Aizawa’s kid was just as scary as him, just more hidden behind those wide eyes and bright smiles. Dangerous.
At the very least, none of them ever woke him up when he napped in their classes. They all knew what happened to Monoma when he woke the boy up weeks later during 1B’s Law and Ethics lesson. It wasn’t pretty.
For the following few years, whispers flew around the halls for all of the new students. A message. A warning.
Don’t wake the sleeping Aizawa.
