Work Text:
If looks could kill, Wednesday would’ve already buried Miss Capri so many feet underground when found none other than Tyler living in her music teacher’s house. Isadora’s intention was to help Enid properly control herself as an Alpha werewolf, especially after Wednesday’s long trip following her around when she transformed to dig Wednesday out of her grave.
Though what Isadora conveniently forgot when she asked Wednesday to take Enid to her house, was that she was temporarily giving Tyler shelter until they decided how to proceed with him. Isadora had never nothing but understanding with Tyler, showing him kindness and understanding that almost no other adult had given the boy before.
Enid’s claws grew at the mere sight of him, only stopped by Wednesday’s hand on her shoulder. When Isadora took Enid away in hopes what she thought to do for her would help, Wednesday and Tyler were left alone in the living room, in awkward silence. More on Tyler’s part, since Wednesday had her eyes fixed on him from the first second, staring at him in silence.
“Could you at least say something?” Tyler broke the ice.
“Fine.” Wednesday’s reply was instant. “Since when have you been here with Miss Capri?”
“She came to look for me the same day my mother and uncle died.” He looked away, still unsure of how to feel about Francoise and Isaac. “We both agreed to keep it a secret.”
“So the authorities won’t come searching for you?”
“Among other people, yes.” Tyler nodded. “If Enid had saw me while she was Alpha and out of control, she would’ve dismembered me right there and then.”
“Probably.” Wednesday agreed. “Miss Capri has a thing for taking extremely aggressive and out of control outcasts under her wing, it seems.”
“I know why she’s doing this.” Tyler paused. “And I’m grateful for it. I’m pretty sure she’ll be able to help Enid too.”
“I thought you hated Enid.”
“I wouldn’t be his best friend after everything.” Tyler admitted. “Besides, I mostly wanted to hurt her because I knew that would hurt you.”
Tyler’s feelings for Wednesday had always been there. They became twisted when he was locked up in Willow Hill, mixed with the need for revenge on Marilyn. He didn’t care that he was mean to her in the moment. If his words affected Wednesday, that meant she still felt something for him. Even if her own feelings for him had turned twisted as well.
Wednesday wasn’t surprised. “That’s petty.”
“I knew it was, but it was the only way I had to get under your skin when you went to see me in Willow Hill.” His eyes didn’t avoid Wednesday’s intense stare. “I mean what I said back then.”
“The part where you said I sensed the monster in you and fell in love with it?” Wednesday recited it word by word. “Or the part where you said we’re two black-hearted souls ready to pillage the world together?”
“I’m not even surprised that you remember it so clearly.” Tyler huffed, unable to help a small smirk. “Because I was right. And you think the same, don’t you?”
“I don’t see the need to respond to that.” Wednesday hated that he could read her so easily.
Tyler couldn’t help the chance to tease her a little. “Wednesday Addams, in denial? That’s new.”
Whatever Wednesday was going to say was interrupted by Isadora opening the living room’s door and immediately noticing the tension between the two. “Is everything alright?”
“Just catching up.” Wednesday spoke first. “How’s Enid?”
“Sleeping now and in better condition, but I fear she’ll have to stay for the night.” She sighed, eyeing mainly Wednesday. “I assume you’re staying as well, Wednesday.”
“I am.” Wednesday assured.
“Giving Enid is occupying one of my guest rooms and Tyler is in the other one, I suppose–”
“Wednesday can use my room.” Tyler interrupted.
Isadora opened her mouth when she noticed Wednesday didn’t look convinced but then closed it again, deciding to leave the two by themselves. “You two figure that out.” She had initial hesitations about leaving Wednesday and Tyler alone, knowing they had some history, but opted for trusting that they would do nothing they would regret. “Good night.”
Once Isadora was out of the room, Wednesday was the first one to speak. “I didn’t ask you to do that.”
“Too bad.” Tyler shrugged, knowing Wednesday’s words didn’t carry any ill intent. “I’ve slept in worse places than a couch lately, so I don’t mind sleeping here tonight.”
“Precisely–” Wednesday stopped. Precisely because you’ve been having it so hard, she was going to say. “Sleep in your bed tonight and shut up.”
“I’ll only do one of those things, and it’s not the first one.”
“Tyler.” Wednesday warned.
“Look, it’ll just be for one night, it’s not that bad.” Tyler tried to reason with her. “The other option is to share my bed, and I don’t think you’ll like that.” Though giving Wednesday’s answer was only silence, Tyler wasn’t sure of his own words. “Do you?”
“As long as the bed is big enough so we’re not squeezed together.” Wednesday finally said. “I appreciate my personal space.”
“I know you do.” Tyler smiled a little. “The bed’s quite big, don’t worry.” He assured. “Follow me, I’ll show you.”
As Tyler said, the bed in his room was huge, almost three people could fit in it. Wednesday seemed satisfied enough, so she didn’t say a word as she took as she took her jacket off and left it on the hanger before leaving her boots in the room’s entrance. She was already lying on the bed when Tyler came back from the bathroom, changed into his pyjamas.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to sleep in the couch?” Tyler asked just to make sure.
“If I have to repeat myself one more time–”
“Fine, fine.” He chuckled, making himself comfortable on the bed next to Wednesday, but still keeping some distance. “Don’t get angry.”
Wednesday took a moment to speak. “I’m not angry.”
They stayed like that for a few minutes, close enough yet not looking at each other, their eyes wide open, unsure if whether saying something was a bad idea. There was so much inside their minds that they wanted to say to the other, and yet none of them initiated conversation during the first minutes of their unexpected yet not unwelcome bed-sharing night.
“Wednesday.” Tyler decided to put an end to that silence.
“Hm?” Wednesday replied after a few seconds of silence.
“Why didn’t you kill me back then?”
There it was, the dreaded question. “Should I have?”
“I don’t know.” Tyler answer truthfully. “I used to think things would’ve been better for everyone if you did.”
“Why?” Wednesday turned around then, facing Tyler’s back.
“If my mother and uncle died but I stayed alive, I would have nowhere else to go.” Tyler explained, his voice low. “And I would’ve been chased for the rest of my life, most likely. Perhaps that’s what I deserve, giving all the pain I caused.”
“Most of what you did was against your will.” Wednesday said as if it was the most evident thing. “You were with your mother and uncle because you had nowhere else to go, and before that everything was Thornhill’s faul–”
“Don’t mention her name.” Tyler hissed.
Wednesday clicked her tongue, immediately regretting her words. “Tyler, look at me.” When he didn’t, she used a softer tone. “Please.” The word was low, almost inaudible.
After a deep breath, Tyler did as she said, facing Wednesday and swallowing when he realized how close she actually was to him. “It’s odd for you to say please.”
“Desperate situations call for desperate measures.”
“I suppose being stuck on the same bed as me is indeed a desperate situation for you.” Tyler joked. “Do you really mean what you said?”
“I’m not saying you’ve done nothing wrong, there are many things you’ve done that I’m not sure I can forgive yet.” Wednesday clarified. “Still, you were a victim, Tyler. Of your previous master, of your mother and uncle.”
“You’re one of the two people who have told me that.” Tyler did his best to hide the way his voice was breaking. “You know, I wish you could’ve become my master back then instead of my mother.” He admitted. “I would’ve done things so differently and I wouldn’t have hurt you more than I already had.”
“I like a good dose of pain.” Wednesday spoke in her monotonous, dead-serious voice. “Though I only enjoy it if my family isn’t hurt in the process.”
“I’m sorry.” Tyler blurted the words he had been wanting to tell her for so long. “I didn’t want to hurt your brother.”
“I know you didn’t.” Wednesday dared to move a hand to Tyler’s face. “You truly looked like you were having a bad time with them.”
“They were… weird.” Tyler got a little nervous. “To say the least.”
“You can say they were insane, and not in the admirable way.” Wednesday spoke for him.
“Among many things, yes.” He chuckled. “I won’t blame you if you want nothing to do with me after today.”
“Don’t put words in my mouth that I haven’t said.” Wednesday frowned, retiring her hand.
“What do you feel for me now, Wednesday?” Tyler felt bold enough to ask the question.
Wednesday Addams was found speechless, something which didn’t happen very often. “I don’t know.” She spoke after almost a minute of silence. “What I do know is that never seeing you again isn’t what I want.”
“Well, your music teacher is so keen on helping Enid with her Alpha werewolf thing that I think we’ll be seeing each other quite often.” One of his hands slowly took one of Wednesday’s braids between his fingers.
“Should I take that as something positive or a threat?” Wednesday’s eyes followed Tyler’s hand as it gently toyed with her braid.
Tyler’s lips formed a small smile. “I’ll leave that up to you.” He had missed Wednesday terribly, there was no point in denying it. Even when he thought she hated him, he still did.
Silence settled between Wednesday and Tyler again. Locking eyes was just the first step before Tyler’s mind betrayed him and gave a brief look at Wednesday’s lips. He had replayed their kiss in his head more times than she would care to admit. He had wished for her to show up in Willow Hill since the first day he was locked up there, needing to see her.
Tyler knew he still loved her after everything. His feelings had undergone every possible stage, going from joyful to ugly to vengeful in such a short span of time. And buried under all of that darkness, he found the need to be close to her again. To feel her touch again, to kiss her. And Tyler didn’t have the energy to deny himself of that anymore – and he didn’t want to.
When Wednesday cupped his face with a hand and leant in to kiss him, Tyler didn’t pull away. One of his hands moved around her waist, pulling her closer to him while his other hand let go of the girl’s braid and gently cupped the back of her head. When they pulled away and he leant in for another one, Wednesday didn’t move away either, letting him keep their bodies close.
“I thought you said you didn’t know.” Tyler spoke first when they broke the kiss.
“I’m allowed to have complicated feelings around us and still want to kiss you.” Wednesday’s tone was low and tender despite her attempt at hiding it. She couldn’t, not from Tyler.
“You won’t hear a complaint from me.”
“I know, you’ve always been weirdly obsessed with me.” There wasn’t disgust in Wednesday’s words.
“Well, that’s a way to keep me humble.” Tyler laughed, but didn’t deny it.
“Seriously though, I want to take things slow this time.” Wednesday moved her fingers up and down one of Tyler’s arms.
“I suppose you don’t want your parents to know you’ve been making out with the Hyde who tried to kill your brother.” While he tried to pull that as a joke, there was regret in Tyler’s words.
“I meant that I need time to figure my feelings out, but I guess that’s an issue to take into account too.” Wednesday didn’t care about what others said or thought of her, but knew her parents would be a problem if things went further with Tyler. “Don’t think that things would be better if you were dead, by the way.”
There were little things Tyler could deny Wednesday, so even if it wasn’t easy for him, at least he could try. “I’ll get there with time.” His words ended in a yawn.
“Good.” Wednesday took a deep breath. “You should sleep.”
“You’re probably right.” Tyler rubbed his eyes. “Can I stay close to you for tonight?”
Wednesday took a second to reply. “Fine.” She didn’t complain when Tyler made himself comfortable on her chest, her hands stroking his curls. “I don’t like when people move in their sleep, so you better not.”
“I won’t.” Those were Tyler’s last words before falling asleep, calm and happy in Wednesday’s embrace.
