The job seemed simple enough at the time.
What Techno was told is that he was going after nobles. Nobles, in their fancy little chariots underneath the soothing moonlight of midnight. Nobles, which are surely important to the empire in some sort of way, but not so much that they can’t be replaced.
Nobles, who’s heads always end with Technoblade getting paid well and having a few weeks for time off.
These are not simple nobles. Technoblade is getting scammed.
(Or, Assassin!Technoblade gets a job to kill sbi. He's like "That's definitely not in my paygrade" but he ends up getting their attention anyway, and he's got his own secrets to keep...)

Summary
Tommy had never been picked by the hatchlings his village had. Year after year, from age five until ten, and he was left an outcast. He knew he'd be exiled for not being chosen- that's what happened to kids without dragons- so he decides to save the village leaders the trouble and leaves alone.
Which turns out to be the best decision he's ever made.or
Tommy is lonely because he can't bond with a dragon. So he leaves and bonds with three wild dragons. Then he overtakes a kingdom. Usual fifteen-year-old stuff

“I’m eighteen. Legal adult.” Tommy argues. He tries to peek over Techno’s shoulder, and Techno adjusts his hold so that it’s easy to lift his chin over to look at Phil. “I could pay taxes.”
“Taxes don’t exist anymore.” Techno points out.
“Thank god for that.” Wil mutters.
(Or, SBI finds a Tommy. The only reasonable option is immediate adoption.)

Summary
The stupidest thing, really, was that Tommy couldn't even really stop himself from doing this. It had been weeks now, barely getting by, scraping rock bottom as he lived through every day feeling like his heart had been pulled from his chest.
He was just so lonely, a physical ache in his chest and desperately muffled chirps in his throat. It was more than just a want - whether he wanted to or not, he needed his flock - so now, here he was. Chasing villains through the city night after night, without so much as a plan for when it inevitably would go wrong.
