I personally really disliked the whole apology spiel, because it sounded as if he was blaming himself for something he shouldn't. He had no control over his actions, so I side with Pepper and Rhodey here, that he has nothing to apologize about, because he was in a bad place at the time, and he tried his best. Also, killing yourself is not selfish if you ask me. It's your life. Other people cannot decide for you what you should do with it. Even if it hurts them it was your life and your choice and their feelings about it is their problem not yours.
Yes! that's the point; remember that the narrative is from Tony's self-deprecating point of view (limited narrator, that's what it's called). These are the thoughts that sometimes I feel, that I'm burdening someone or that I owe an apology, when in reality it's just me being insecure and unfair to myself. Just like with Tony. That's why Rhodey and Pepper continue to contradict him- they are the voice of reason.
I thought it was "unreliable narrator" xD I mean I use those terms interchangeably a lot xD Tho usually when I use that I mean "Wanda was always an adult and I knew it before anybody confirmed it, because Tony and Clint are grandpas and considering that their "kid" is always a false assessment, because I myself was mistaken for a minor by people 40+, and also Steve calls everybody a kid, even his adult self so..." Yeah. Usually that is my main usage of unreliable narrator xD
