saw the lapis pov and crode. i cried, myself cried, we both crode. my favorite dysfunctional gem, tending towards the extreme in the unsettling way that tips everyone around her off. this mini chapter wants to be my favorite despite the fact that i just said the last one is my favorite and it would be a real disservice to toss that one out so quickly.
i assume the beginning part is lapis and pearl. what are they doing!!! is this their own way of learning to dance?? how funny that peridot, the eager earth-accepting one of the two is taking the gem route while lapis, the older stuck in her ways recluse is taking the human route.
i love the irrational offense that steven wouldn’t tell her he’s going. i feel that. a lot of me liking lapis is just me going “that is completely irrational of her to do but a feel that”. her time on earth is already so shaky. everything is getting upturned faster than she can realize as a gem still attached to the slow-moving ways of old homeworld. she finds stability in little things, and to take that stability away is the worst.
the camp pining hearts segment… this is a turning point for the story. she’s closed the previous chapter—finished watching camp pining hearts—and now has to find her way out of the camp. it seems peridot did just that, earlier than she realizes. also it’s just plain well-written.
reading at a nice slow pace is really what’s better for me, but this is just making me want to barrel through the entire thing, responsibilities be damned.
I can't believe you're cheating on your favorite chapter so soon after the honeymoon. As for the beginning section? I won't comment on the beginning section in any capacity; it's a secret!
I worry about Lapis, sometimes, that she's too unhinged on the page and lets her thought processes a tad too deranged. But people are irrational, and occasionally unhinged and deranged, and it's been quite well-recieved - I suppose it'll just make what I have planned in future (and the already written chapters you have yet to read) all the better. Very few characters in Steven Universe have their humors all in balance, so it fits.
It's best to take things at your own pace - reading three times as much won't be three times as enjoyable, and there is, indeed, too much of a good thing. When I'm reading through something, I make a point to make it a part of my circadian rhythm. A little bit of it each day, and then that story becomes a part of my time spent on Earth.
