Summary
Steve has a mission but he’s momentarily distracted by the snow falling outside the window. It’s not rare, snow on Christmas Eve in Brooklyn, but its beauty gets him every time anyways. He’s itching to draw, to paint the blue-white wonderland, moon high in the sky, a calm washed over the city in the night. But he has a mission.
He tries to grab the last blanket from the linen closet, a musty old sector of the apartment, with a door that doesn’t shut fully and shelves higher than Steve can usually reach by himself. He jumps a little bit for the striped sheet, and groans in frustration when his fingertips graze it. He’s fifteen, and the doctors say he’s probably not done growing, but unless he has an eight inch growth spurt, he’s destined to always be a little unhappy with his height.
“Need a hand?”

Summary
Steve and Bucky were used to cold winters. They had to be, growing up in Brooklyn, growing up during the Depression. They survived quite a few winters they thought they wouldn’t- or at least that Bucky thought Steve wouldn’t, with his many ailments teaming up with the weather to take a toll on his small body.
One year, however, 1938, two years after they moved in together, they got a heater. It was cheap, an oil burner, but Bucky had saved up work money to get it and make the winters easier on him and his best friend.
But now it was 1941, and the heater was on its last legs. It was cheap to begin with, and Bucky hadn’t expected it to last long, but Christmas was soon, and the cold was only gonna get worse.

Summary
Steve is worried about giving Bucky his gift for Christmas. It was hard trying to find something for him this year. Bucky doesn’t read or draw as much as he used to, and all of his boxing gear is up to date.
What Steve really wants is just to stick a bow on his head and offer himself up as a present. Let Bucky have his way with him.
It doesn’t help that Bucky’s great with gifts. He always gets Steve the best art supplies, or movie tickets, or new books. He never fails to save up months in advance. They’re always thoughtful presents that make Steve just want to kiss him. Well, he always wants to kiss him.

Summary
Steve can tell something’s wrong the second Bucky steps into their apartment. His best friend’s face is sullen and pale, his figure drooping as he shrugs off his coat.
“Buck?” Steve comes to greet him at the door, and looks up at him with concern. He holds Bucky’s arm gently and stands steady so Bucky will have to look at him. He’d be worried that this was too much, too intimate for friends, but God knows how many times Bucky’s fawned over Steve when he’s been sick or looking like shit.

Summary
“So are you gonna go to the dance with me?” Bucky asks, tapping his pencil on his binder, eyes wandering up to Steve’s face.
Steve rolls his eyes. “You already asked me that,” he says, but he’s having trouble biting back a smile.
“And you said no,” Bucky replies. “I remember. Thought you might change your mind once I did my part of the project, though.”
Steve barks out a laugh at that and pokes him with the eraser end of his pencil. “As beautiful as your writing on the Gilded Age is, I don’t like dances.”

Summary
Steve smiles and shuts the door behind his friends. Natasha and Sam had come over for a movie night and it had been really nice. It was taking time, but Bucky was starting to warm up to them. He doesn’t talk much when they’re around but he smiles a lot more than he used to. He’s doing a lot better in general.
Walking back into their living room, Steve sees Bucky still on the couch. Odd, because he usually goes back into his room immediately after Sam and Nat leave.
“You wanna watch something else?” he asks, looking up at his friend.
Steve beams and takes a seat on the other side of the couch. “Yeah, anything.”

Summary
Bucky Barnes makes Steve nervous. He probably isn’t doing it on purpose; He’s just handsome and witty and it flusters Steve to no end.
Bucky is a new coworker of Steve’s, at The 107th, a gay bar where Steve’s been moonlighting for a couple of years. The first time he saw Bucky, Steve thought he was a customer, and his immediate train of thought was along the lines of “God, I hope he hits on me,” even though Steve hates it when customers do that.

Summary
Steve doesn’t know where his love of motorcycles came from. Probably the war, even though those memories aren’t very fond. Maybe it’s his way of reclaiming his time there.
Whatever it is, he loves them now. Specifically, his. Vintage, not as vintage as him, but a smooth ride with a roaring engine that drowns out all of his thoughts when he’s cruising down the freeway.
Which is what he’s doing right now, leaving New York City for the weekend and heading upstate to his secluded cabin in the woods. Even Captain America needs time off, once in a while. Steve loves the city more than anything, even if he’s been forced to relocate to Manhattan, but he’s accessible there, and someone always wants something from him. Mostly superficial stuff, too, like photoshoots or other press. Not really what he signed up for. At least not in this century. So he just has to get away for a bit.

Summary
They are not supposed to be here. Bucky was just supposed to come over to get a book, but somehow these small excuses never do their job and they always wind up in bed.
“What time is Sam coming back?” Bucky asks Steve in between kisses.
“Probably not for a bit…” he responds throatily as Bucky slips his hand under his shirt and shifts his mouth to Steve’s neck. “Go lock the door.”

Summary
When Bucky returns from work that night, he looks beat, even more so than usual. He always tries to plaster on a smile for Steve, but Steve can see right through it, observant and intuitive as ever, to the sweat and the exhaustion he must feel down to his bones.
The job down at the docks is still new, and though Bucky’s always been an athlete, built and determined, the work is strenuous and long, definitely an adjustment from the more relaxed jobs of boyhood, delivering newspapers and groceries.
Not only that, but Bucky’s a grown man now. A grown man living with his unemployed, constantly ill best friend who everyone calls queer behind his back.

Summary
He could admit, at least to himself, that he’d been walking around with a soft spot for Dirtyhands for almost as long as he’d known him. He now realized that was almost exactly how long he’d been away from home. He’d never held both affections in one hand.
