To not feel helpless and powerless and vulnerable anymore, not needing someone to come and save her, like she did that day last year when the Alpha chased them through the school. So she took up a crossbow and learned how to use it, but even when she went after Derek and his pack to get revenge for her mom, she still didn't feel powerful. She felt desperate.
