Summary
“Is just very strange,” Valentino said. “In my memory, you hate me,” he pointed at Casey, “and you like me,” he pointed at Marc, “but now, is reversed.”
“I didn’t hate you,” Casey said, at the same time as Marc said, “I don’t hate you.” They both stopped, turning to stare at each other.
Valentino raised his eyebrows at them. “Allora, no hate. Is good! Still, strange.”

Summary
“Valentino does not want an apology from me,” Marc says, to a murmur from the reporters.
“What does he want from you, then?"
“Nothing,” Marc shrugs. Then, because apparently he’s feeling petty too, “for me to never have existed, maybe.”

Casey frowns. “It’s not like he’s doing anything wrong, asking me for advice. I don’t mind helping out the younger riders.”
“And while your help is useful, he’ll be nice, sure. But what happens when something goes wrong? When he needs someone to take the fall for a big mistake? He won’t throw out his own guys, I promise you that.” Marc’s voice lowers. “And you are not one of his guys. No matter what he says, I promise you that, too.”

Bez tried his best to figure something out. Becoming Marc’s friend couldn’t be too complicated, right? It wasn’t like Marc was a complicated guy. He liked racing. Bez liked racing.
Like Pecco said: Simple.

Summary
“No. No! It’s wrong, I would never— it’s wrong!” Valentino is still just cackling, almost falling over the couch from how hard the laughter wracks through him. Casey wishes he’d fall, wishes he’d smack his head so hard he’d forget about the last hour entirely. His face burns. “Stop laughing!”
“Casey, Casey! You know is not wrong.” Valentino finally manages to control himself, though just barely. He wipes away imaginary tears, chuckling. “Is the truth of soulmates. You cannot deny.”
“I can deny. I do deny!” Casey looks down, catches a glimpse of the word again— hurriedly covers it back up as Valentino laughs again. “Stop! How are you laughing about this? How are you not— I mean, you’re part of this, too! You have to have said this too, for it to be on both of us!”

Summary
“Can you look at me?”
Valentino turned towards Marc, finding him sitting on the couch, cross-legged. He was staring, unblinking, at Valentino.
Marc looked so much like a normal person, in that moment, exactly like he always did.
Marc was not, in that moment, at all a normal person.
“What?” Valentino asked, a bit unnerved.
“Just . . . look at me,” Marc said. “For a moment.”
“Okay,” Valentino said, still a bit unnerved, but understanding, too. “I look at you.”

Summary
Alex admires many things about his brother. He’s not sure how he feels about this particular aspect of him. But he loves his brother, without a doubt, every brilliant facet and every dark corner, adores him beyond all fear and failure.
He knows he cannot change him. Wouldn’t want to, if he could.
“Don’t get us killed,” he says, sighing as Marc laughs. “Please. Not at Misano. Don’t do that to Mom and Dad.”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry,” Marc replies, but of course Alex worries. “Not at Misano, I promise.”
When it comes to Marc, Alex will take the victories where he can get them.

Summary
Overall, they’d been delightful, open and friendly. Everything about the weekend has been, in fact, delightfully open and friendly. All the garages, the mechanics, the staff, the fans, even the media— all fun, and welcoming, with everyone seeming truly, genuinely happy to see Casey.
Casey has never experienced anything quite like that. Certainly not when he’d been racing, but even after retirement, it wasn’t exactly a common occurrence.
Despite the unfamiliarity, however, Casey is fully aware of the exact reason for this wonderfully warm reception he is receiving. One person who has orchestrated all of it, despite largely staying behind the scenes. Didn’t want the show, he’d said, before setting Casey loose on the grid. Go have fun, I’ll be here.
