Their ‘meeting of the dark leiges’ began with his (not so) little spiel, promising that he’d return to his true form– Which sounded more like a curse than anything else, had begun without a hitch. Then, nothingness. No ‘shadow-lord’. Just a black void that seemed to swallow her whole. She felt like she’d been standing there for hours, as time didn’t really seem to have an effect in this realm.

The experiment that never made it past the prototype stage.
Unstable. Disposable. A name not worth remembering.They locked me away and moved on—created someone better. Someone who could carry the Aether Core without breaking. She was everything I was never given the chance to be: trained, adored, chosen. They built the future around her.

He heard it as soon as the words left his mouth, cringing at his own horrific phrasing while Ena recoiled and hid her face in rigid, white-knuckled hands, screaming with sobs that scared Akito enough to make him want to cry along with her. “Ena, Ena, I didn’t mean it like that.” Words spilled helplessly out of his mouth, overcompensating, unsuccessful. “Ena, please, no, you didn’t do anything wrong.” He leaned forward and tried to take her hands again, but she resisted this time, thrashing as she pulled away. His voice rose above her hysterical shrieking. “Ena!”
Somehow, Ena managed to scream even louder, reaching behind her for something and throwing it with all her strength at Akito before he could react. “YOU HATE ME JUST AS MUCH AS THE REST OF THEM!”
Or: In which Akito tries and fails to comfort his sister and everyone pays the price.
