Could she be a light now dimmed, not yet accustomed to Philip’s great darkness? (The very same darkness he claimed to embrace as though it were the wings of Saint Peter). Or… was she something else? Was she just adjusting to his darkness… or was this new Mark in fact a sign she had finally ascended from her own darkness and had found a guiding light?
It could be that Philip Lombard was her light… as what if a light did not need to be pure, or even clean, to be a guide all the same? After all, the dimmest of candlelight could be enough to bring one out of the darkest tunnel.

Summary
A parody of sorts of the classic I-Know-Who-Did-It-and-I-will-reveal-all bit at the end of a lot of Poirot and Marple stories. It's done in the form of a play script, so if you belong to a drama group and want to do a stupid short play, then go with it!
The name is from a nice little café in Dorchester that is in part of an ex-theatre. it's rumoured that the title of the last play performed was called The Horse With the Red Umbrella, although no record of it exists as far as I know. This is the first part of a quartet of short plays I call the Dorchester Name Four. Each one has a name that is connected to the Dorset market town of Dorchester.Series

“There you are! I’ve been looking all over for you lot.”
Rick looked up as Jonathan dropped into the seat across the table and leaned back against the soft red plush. Alex, seated on a velvet cushion beside his father, bawled, “Hallo, Uncle Jon!” As a just-turned-four year old, he was going through a shouting phase. A countess, a marquis, and someone who was probably an exiled Russian prince or something looked around disapprovingly.

There was a low chuckle to my side.
I turned to look and saw a tall, dark-haired man leaning against the side of the bar in a fashionably untidy tuxedo, a glass of scotch in one hand, looking me over with the darkest of piercing dark eyes. “There’s no greater human comedy than the institution of heterosexual marriage,” he said, in a drawling accented voice.
Oh, Christ.
Did I ever think I’d be writing an Agatha Christie AU? Nope, but here ya go anyway.
