Bob still didn’t know why John cared that much about him, it was just Bob had no experience with alpha’s like the blond that didn’t only want to fuck him as a transaction for something else.
John would go back to Olivia at some point; he convinced himself of that so he could fool himself into not getting attached to the alpha’s attention.
He should have known he was building a house of cards since they first slept together. But like the broken thing he had grown up to be, he was desperate to be oblivious.

Their relationship wasn't the most common one, but he wanted it to last. Call it an alpha thing. Bob made him feel better just by letting him take care of him, and the omega cared, even if he didn't express it verbally. John knew a thing or two about not knowing how to phrase things, but Bob cared about him.
And maybe even could love him in the long run. John hoped he loved him in the long run.

His seatmate in fifth grade asks him about it first. Her name is Layla, he still remembers, a pretty omega girl with dark hair and dark eyes, freshly immigrated from somewhere in East Asia. She’s playing with one of her ten gold rings when she looks over at Bob with a frown.
“Where’s yours?” she asks. Gestures at Bob’s empty hands and arms and neck.
“Where’s what?”
“Your bijouterie,” she clarifies. “Does your family do waist chains or something? My mom says she got me rings because that’s what they do back home, but I think they’re too flashy.”
His bijouterie is not hidden, because he doesn’t have any. But Bob doesn’t want to say that, can already feel the shame coloring his face pink.
“Um, no,” he stutters. “It’s just on my ankle.”
His ankle, of course, is empty.

“You,” he murmurs, “all I smell is you.”

Bob squeezes John’s hand harder, like he needs something to ground himself, because it absolutely shatters him – not in a bad way, though. He lets out a shaking sigh, his heart stuttering under his ribcage, and it’s like his chest is bursting with all the emotions flooding him in that moment. A couple of weeks ago, he didn’t even know that baby existed; he didn’t know if he would ever want to have one. And now he suddenly feels like nothing is as important as them and never will be.
It’s sickening and amazing at the same time.

He barely makes it to the bathroom before it hits, making him throw up violently, his body quivering and shaking, spasms breaking through his stomach and never ending. It leaves a bitter taste and that disgusting soreness in his throat when it’s finally over, and Bob slides slowly down onto the tiled floor, curling in on himself, hugging his knees to his chest, his forehead resting on them.
