Summary
After GUN attacked the ARK, Shadow was forced to escape, crash-landing on Earth, but his safety was short-lived as he was quickly captured. Scientists and doctors saw Shadow as only a weapon, circling and poking him for their research gains. All the while, Shadow struggled with the grief of losing his sister and closest friend, Maria. He couldn’t feel much other than his sadness and isolation.
That is, until he met Sonic, a hedgehog deemed dangerous like him, but unlike Shadow, he was energetic and carefree. The blue blur was relentless in his efforts to befriend Shadow. Despite Shadow’s resistance, Sonic managed to sneak into Shadow’s life, dragging him into adventures around the facility and sharing some light in an unfamiliar world. Slowly, Shadow began to open himself up to Sonic and even smiled for the first time since the attack.
But is everything really what it seems?

Or: Tommy, an avian, doesn't know of life outside the laboratory. It's the only home he's ever had. So when Phil breaks in and takes four abused hybrid kids to a safehouse, he's surprised to see that one of them isn't at all happy to be saved.
(Or: lab-themed sbi hurt/comfort. I'm a sucker for angst with a happy ending.)

or: The first artificial life is kept inside and raised as a war machine. Some of the scientists try to break him out and teach him humanity, and the boy is willing to prove himself! Things aren't as easy as one might think since he was raised to kill and.... he's also a couple feel taller than the average person.
Things aren't hopeless, but it sure as hell aren't won by default.
