But when comparisons are made, dots are connected, and the mistake of a couple that was better left buried points to one Armin Arlert, he began the journey to further himself along his friends and some people he thought he had lost in the fall of Shiganshina.

They are both acutely aware of the fact that Mikasa was always way more loyal to Eren than Armin was. That Mikasa was always going to carry out Eren's wish for them to live in his absence, when he was gone, but that Armin's decision to stay would be more malleable.

Summary
Armin does not understand why or how he deserves Eren's love, even years after the night of their confession that changed the remaining time of their short lives. Running away was the best decision they made, and also the worst.
Eren's death is getting closer, meaning Armin will be left alone for a few more years until his time comes too. They've managed to not think or talk about it too much, choosing to instead fuck to keep the dread away.
With less than a year left together though, and Eren becoming more distant and Armin feeling more alone as time passes, they can't keep avoiding the subject for much longer.
OR
Basically Eren choosing Armin instead of Mikasa to live in the cabin in the paths, and the angsty (light) and bloody sex that ensues when you are both titan shifters who are bad at feelings regarding life and death.

In all honesty, Armin would want nothing more to go back inside. It was about a week ago when the conversation that led Armin in this position happened.
He was curled up in their dorm reading a textbook when Eren couldn’t stop raving about the party he’d been to the day before. And in a moment of stupid spontaneity Armin asked if he could tag along at the next one. Eren agreed with no hesitation, he even got super excited about it. That excitement is why Armin has been standing outside for 15 minutes trying to ignore the chill that’s been creeping up his spine.
