“It’s okay. It was an accident,” Jimmy tried, but it only made Karl cry more. What was going on? Jimmy texted CJ, who told him to meet them at a gas station immediately. That confused Jimmy even more. Why so urgent? Jimmy told Chris to pull over, and the other did, brow furrowed in confusion. Jimmy was glad he wasn’t the only one confused. When they got to the gas station, Chris pulled up next to CJ, who immediately got out of the car and opened the back door of Jimmy’s, a duffle bag on his shoulder.
“Karl, buddy, look at me,” CJ instructed, crawling into the backseat next to the youngest.
Karl looked up, lip quivering around his thumb. “CJ, ‘m sowry. ‘M sowry.”
“Hey, it’s okay, buddy. You didn’t do it on purpose,” CJ soothed. Jimmy had never seen him so soft with anyone.
