King Peppy, an older man at the time of the escape, starts losing his mental functioning early in Poppy's childhood. At 12, the Pop Princess becomes Queen. This changes many things about how she leads.
Or, while watching the bonus features on the DVD, I found out they originally planned for Peppy to have implied dementia. I decided to expand on this concept.

Summary
Poppy and Branch drinking and getting high in the living room of the royal pod while king Peppy and queen Serenity (Poppy’s mom) argue over Poppy being crowned in the other room.
It’s the same situation just written from each of their perspectives.
Basically this is the “beginning” of a series of works I’m going to be doing about this AU I’ve been building up in my head for about 2-3 months now.
Do be warned this AU is pretty dark and involved heavy topics like alcoholism/drug addictions/abandonment/self harm/suicide/suicide attempts/eating disorders/severe mental issues such as schizophrenia, OCD, depression, etc.
But yeah, all this to say don’t read if you can’t handle it because I’m not planning on skimping on to many of the details
