Summary
Luigi tends to falter under the weight of responsibility.
So, his family expects Mario to carry the slack. After all, he is the older!
(By 36 minutes...)And, Luigi tells himself he's alright with that! He's a coward! After all...
Really, it's for the best.
Yet, for the first time, his acquiescence and fear can not overcome his loyalty. His love. His willingness for self-sacrifice undiscovered in the shadow of Mario's own stoic martyrdom. And he refuses to continue living as a burden.
He gathers his courage and steps up, heedless of his brother's familiar comforts and determined to become someone who could stand as an equal, and could guilelessly speak his truth, and could protect himself without needing a brother to serve as a shield.
He just... hadn't expected adopting such responsibility to come with (unexpected)(secret)(royal) child-rearing duties, too.
(Not that the bambino's kaiju of a father was even aware. And, if he's lucky, it should stay that way.)

Seemingly normal beginnings of the movie but Luigi let's go instead of pulling Mario into the Darklands. Luigi willingly puts only himself in danger, and hopefully Bowser will be that much more merciful.

Summary
As the Thalmor become more and more of a presence in the Imperial City post-Great War, several people see which way the wind is blowing and flee to other provinces. Yoshi is one of these people, deciding it is high time that he and his charges head for someplace less volitile...like Skyrim. The Civil War can't be that bad, right? So Yoshi goes across the boarder ahead of the Bros to secure a job and lodgings, with the Bros following after a few days.
But things go awry as soon as the Bros cross the boarder. They stop to ask from directions from some friendly Nords dressed in blue, get caught in an ambush by the Imperial Legion, end up captured...you can tell where this is going.Warning: Some deviations from canon will occur. You have been warned.
