"Okay," Star says, setting his swords aside.
Julio stares at him, the word not making sense. It's like his grasp on English has left the building entirely. "Okay, what?"
"I want it to be you, then," Star says, completely un-self conscious. "You are my best friend." He says it like it makes perfect sense, like it's the only reason he would ever need for this.
"But you said you didn't..."
"I do not want what they do on Mojoworld," Shatty clarifies, a little sharp. "You are different."
"I'm not gonna be as good as an alpha," Julio warns him. "And I've never even, y'know, gone the distance with a girl."
"Well then it is a good thing I am not a girl," Shatterstar says, and he's teasing now, Julio can tell.

The kissing is... new. He is still getting used to it, the sensation. The emotions and sensations it illicits in him. He hums, tilting his head so their noses do not press awkwardly against each other. He hears Julio's huff of amusement and smiles triumphantly into the kiss. He likes making him laugh. It is a sound he hoards jealously, gathering inside his chest like certain members of the Cadre collected glass beads and bits of wire to put in their braids. He never had any beads or wire, but he thinks with the sound of Julio's laughter he has no need for it. These are his treasures, those sweet sounds.

A look passed between both Terry and Roberto, and Julio went back to shuffling through his cards. Maybe he should try to make a different pair. Maybe Theresa would join in. Maybe he could jump off the nearest cliff to avoid anymore conversations, ever. It’d probably cure all his needs.
Finally, Roberto said, “What the hell are you talking about?”

"Cause it feels good," Julio says, the stick dangling between two of his fingers.
