"It must have been embarrassing when they saw how much higher I scored than they did back in training," chuckled Bobbi.
“Oh really?” asked Monica loudly as she leapt down from the roof.
“Monica!” stammered Bobbi as Monica landed right in front of her, “I didn’t know you… How did you…? Do you have powers?”
“Sure do, nerd,” smirked Monica, “Same as Carol’s. Not so high and mighty now, are you?”
“Monica- Ow!”
Monica had used a fraction of her enhanced strength to flick Bobbi’s nose, causing her to stumble back and grab it in pain. Monica chuckled to herself.
“Hey!” barked Jessica, grabbing Monica’s collar, “What the hell do you think you're doing?”
“Get your hands off me,” replied Monica angrily.
“Or what?” demanded Jessica.
“Or this.”
Monica fired a low level blast of energy at Jessica. Peter’s spider sense kicked in just before this happened, giving him time to shout “Look out!” and shove Jessica out of the way. Unfortunately, this put Peter in the line of fire instead. He was knocked onto his back a few feet away, coughing in discomfort. The attack hadn’t been strong enough to really hurt him, but it sure wasn’t a pleasant feeling.

Jones had lived in Los Angeles a mere four months and in that time had endured a tetanus shot, a blowout with dire consequences, a dramatic reading of a zombie novel longer than War and Peace, and a cat tea party. Despite, or because of, all that, she finally had a job, a home, actual friends, a decent relationship with her family, and hope for a better tomorrow – none of which mattered when the elevator unexpectedly stopped.
Jessica Jones and Jess Day get trapped in an elevator, which doubles as a glass case of emotions.

“He’s a decent photographer,” said Kat, “but beyond that not I can’t say much. When he’s not wearing the mask, he’s nothing. A nobody. A loser.”
The audience murmured as Peter sank sadly down into his seat.
“No further questions,” smiled Jeri, returning to her desk.
Matt cleared his throat and began his cross examination. Nothing came from it. Peter and his friends left the courthouse that day with grim prospects for the trial.

“You have a warrant?” demanded Jessica.
“No, but-”
“Then have a nice day,” said Jessica, shutting the door.
“It’s about Spider-Man,” shouted DeWolff from the other side, “We know you’ve worked together! We’ve brought his girlfriend in for questioning. If you know where he is-”
“Wait!” called out Peter, swinging in through the window and pulling off his mask.
Jessica shot him a look of shock and anger.
“They’re going to find out, Jessica,” he said quietly, “I can’t put anyone else through all this just to delay the inevitable.”
“Ms. Jones?” called DeWolff, “Is there someone in there who would like to speak with us?”
Peter went for the door. Jessica rushed up to him, but he was easily able to push her back with his superior strength. Jessica grunted as she stumbled back. It was rare that Peter ever used his strength against her. Sometimes she even forgot he was stronger. Peter arrived at the door and opened.
“Hello,” he said to DeWolff, “My name is Peter Parker and I have been Spider-Man since I was 18 years old.”

Jessica could hardly believe it. Bobbi had really done it. Not only had she found the perfect place for them to move into, she had successfully convinced Jessica that it was a good idea. Jessica had lived in that last apartment for YEARS. Convincing her to move elsewhere was no easy feat.
This move would have been extremely difficult if Jessica hadn’t been a superhuman. Being able to carry entire stocked dressers by herself with ease had its advantages.
“Careful!” exclaimed Bobbi as the dresser bumped the wall.
“Hey!” shouted Jessica, “I just carried this thing up 4 flights of stairs! Show some respect.”
“Oh come on. That thing weighs nothing to you,” teased Bobbi, giving the dresser a light shove.
“Hey! Whoa!” let out Jessica, stumbling back.
Bobbi gasped as Jessica stepped backward out over the staircase, falling back and dropping the entire dresser on herself before they both slid to the landing, hitting the wall and sending clothes scattering everywhere. Miraculously, the dresser seemed mostly intact. Jessica, while uninjured by the experience thanks to her enhanced durability, looked furious.
“I’m… So sorry…” whispered Bobbi, “I thought you had- I’m so sorry.”

“Guys!” called out Peter, “Look! There!”
A single reindeer stood silhouetted against the white snowstorm surrounding them on all sides. Upon being seen, the reindeer turned and walked further into the storm. The others looked at one another before hurrying after the beast.
Soon they came upon more reindeer, all wandering about a large ornately decorated sleigh. The sleigh was tilted on its side, revealing one of the runners to be broken. Examining the broken runner was an enormous tall man with proportionately broad shoulders dressed all in red. He was facing away from the group when they arrived.
“Um… Excuse me?” said Mary Jane.
The man stood and turned around. Jessica, Peter, Mary Jane, and Gayle let out audible gasps. The man wore the exact long white beard they had come to expect. His cheeks were round and bright red, as was his cherry nose. He had a smile in his eyes as well as his lips.
“...you’re really him,” whispered Gayle.
“Wonderful!” cheered the large man, “You’re exactly what I’m looking for!”
“And who’s that?” asked Cindy.
“Someone to help me save Christmas!” declared the man.
“...save Christmas?” asked Bobbi after a moment.

Bobbi bit her lip and clenched her fists as everyone turned to uncomfortably look at her.
“I’m kidding!” added Jessica, leaning so far into the mic stand that she almost fell over, “I’m kidding! Nobody wedgie my girlfriend or I swear I’ll… I’ll…”
Jessica took a moment to look around the room. Then she looked Bobbi in the eye. Suddenly her careless eyes began to tear up. She sniffed and wiped her face on her sleeve.
“...I’m sorry,” said Jessica suddenly, her voice almost breaking, “I… I…”
There was a moment of dead silence as Jessica looked around the room again. Then she looked back at Bobbi.
“...why are you even dating me?” asked Jessica.

Bobbi raised her hand without hesitation.
“Yes, Morse?”
“August 19th 1945, ma’am!” answered Bobbi.
“Correct,” smiled Carter, “You are exempt from the first training session, recruit. The rest of you: 10 laps around the training area!”
Bobbi could feel the cold stares of disdain on her without even looking.
“Now!” ordered Carter.
The other recruits broke out into a jog past Bobbi to the edge of the training room, many of them going out of their way to roughly push past Bobbi. One gave her a hard shoulder check while coughing “nerd” under her breath. The only one who didn’t seem actively angry with her was a fit redhead. She paused to look at Bobbi for a moment.
“Ran right into that one,” she smirked, “Didn’t you?”
The redhead ran off without another word. Bobbi frowned dejectedly at Carter, who smiled smugly back. The other recruit, whom Bobbi would later learn was named Natasha Romanoff, was right. Bobbi had run right into that one.

“Peter!” gasped Mary Jane, covering her mouth to conceal a smile.
“Oh no…” sighed Malcolm with pity.
“Oh my God!” smiled Jessica with delight.
“Hi guys…” squeaked Peter in a falsetto.
Peter’s cyan blue swim trunks were higher up on him than seemed possible. The waistband was up to his armpits and the legs of the trunks were hiked up into his crotch. The entirety of his pale thighs were exposed, made even paler by comparison to his slightly tanned shins. Peter himself seemed mostly dry, but the scrunched up swimsuit was dripping wet. His face was twisted in a permanent wince. Jessica’s smile broke out into a full on cackle.
“What happened to you?” asked Sally.
“The Perilous Plunge happened,” said Peter, voice still higher than any of them had ever heard.
“That’s amazing!” howled Jessica with laughter, “You look like you’ve had your trunks fused to your body!”
“I think the netting is embedded in my colon,” whispered Peter.
“Aw, Peter,” smiled Mary Jane in endearment, “Everyone knows that slide is basically a massive wedgie machine.”
“Well no one told ME!” cried Peter indignantly, clenching his fists and turning red in the face.

Jessica looked at Peter’s happy, hopeful eyes. It was the happiest she had seen him in a long time. Maybe this was worth a shot. If Peter was this dead set on it, Jessica was invested too. She would stick around if it really mattered to him. She could tell from his eyes that it did.
“Alright,” resigned Jessica, “I’m in. What’s the first thing on our agenda?”
“We need a name, of course!” said Thor.
“The Avengers!” suggested Squirrel Girl.
“No, that will get confusing,” said Thor, “but I like the enthusiasm! Let’s keep going, let’s hear the others!”

“The MIGHTY Avengers!”
“That’s it!” declared Thor, “The Mighty Avengers! That’s perfect. After all, we are all mighty!”
“I mean I only have the proportional strength of a squirrel,” said Squirrel Girl, “Is that really mighty?”
“Well I know one thing,” beamed Thor proudly, “and that’s that we’re all mighty CUTE!”
