After the collapse of Project Insight, Bucky Barnes is at a loss for what to do with the unfamiliar freedom of choice. When he's referred to an equine assisted therapy program, he has no expectations that living a Barbie Horse Adventure will do him any good. But when he meets the program director, Sam Wilson, he thinks that maybe he judged things too quickly. Maybe a little peace, a sense of purpose, and a handsome cowboy will what he's been missing.
Of course, Bucky and Sam should both know that you can't outrun your past forever. It won't be long before it's knocking at their door, threatening the peace that both of them are trying so hard to hang onto.

Tony managed to win the fight in Siberia, leading to the detainment of the rogue Avengers and, much more importantly, Bucky Barnes. In Tony's own words, the Winter Soldier's extensive, international, very politically charged crimes and refusal to turn himself in have landed him permanently in the hot seat. And, of course, Tony has his own feelings about how Bucky should be dealt with.
“You were looking at a very unhappy ending with an undetermined amount of unhappy times in between now and then. Instead, your rights have been signed over to me. I’m your legal guardian and power of attorney. I decide everything that does or doesn’t happen to you from now on."
It sounds like the opening to a villain origin story, but Tony has some interesting ideas on how to best deal with the man who murdered his parents, and it might wind up doing more for Bucky than living on the run with Steve ever could have. Now, that doesn't mean Bucky is going to necessarily like it... but whether Bucky likes it doesn't really matter anymore.

I've always wondered what happened in between, and I wanted to write some more background for Bucky's serious depression at the very beginning of the tv show.

These sessions are supposed to help, yet he doesn't feel much progress. It's not until his therapist advises him to make a life of his own-getting out in the world-do things begin to change. And it all starts with his next-door neighbor who constantly is blaring music. But a few minor encounters lead to occasional drinks and planned meals. While it's difficult opening up to a therapist, with his neighbor, it seems to come naturally.
For Bucky, that's terrifying.
Because how are two people with trust issues supposed to trust each other?
