A crack began to start in Dazai's heart- if he had one anyway- the air becoming so thick one could shoot a bullet and it would get stuck in the air, taking a few minutes to eventually fall to the ground, as if being shot through butter.
Except this butter was still, and stiff, and old. As if having just been taken out the fridge, not having been put out to sit, not ready, not ready to use. Just like how Oda was not ready to be called such a name, such a foolish name as 'Odasaku'. -

Dazai wants to cry, to hug him, to scream. He wanted to beg him to not leave him, to take Dazai with him. But he can’t bring himself to be that selfish. He knows better than anyone what it is like to want to die. Odasaku knew from the moment he entered that he wasn’t going to leave this building alive.
“Odasaku, what will I do without you?”
Oda smiled at him before closing his eyes. A silence fell over the two for what felt like an eternity before Oda murmured.

Osamu Dazai was, to put it lightly, a really weird kid. He could be childish and bubbly one moment, and then he would turn into a battle-hardened veteran the next. He was an executive, yet he was a child. The boy was a genius, yet couldn’t process his own emotions. He reminds Oda of a fox, or maybe a cat. Sly and cunning, smart and inquisitive, fearful and scared.

“Do you think he likes me back?” Dazai asked in a small voice suddenly. He looked like a kid instead of a cold-blooded mafia executive for the second time in the same night. Oda felt something growing in his chest. He didn’t need clarification to understand whom he was talking about.
Dazai is an idiot and catches a cold. The Lupin Trio talks about Dazai and Chuuya's 'relationship' briefly.
Those happen at the same time, much to his luck.

"At least try." Ango grumbles, seemingly more perturbed by Dazai's insistence for death than usual.
Oda supposes it can't hurt. "Dazai, listen. You either get to bring up Chuuya, or suicide during our meetings." He says, earning a snap of Ango's neck in his direction and a slightly deeper sigh Oda takes to mean he's unsatisfied with his choice of words, but not enough so to restate them at the very least.
Dazai perks his head up from where it had been buried in his drink. His sitting posture becomes more open as he regards Oda, and he honestly can't tell if it was because of the mention of suicide, or of Chuuya. "My dear dog lost his treasured hat today." He recounts the recent event. The even tone of his voice is almost enough for Oda to believe that when he refers to this 'dog' it's a totally normal thing for him to mean his partner.
(Or: Buraiha trio fades and as years pass Dazai finds himself once again in the presumably unvoluntarily company of one Nakahara Chuuya.)
