Chris's head rests on Buck's shoulder now, and he can still distantly hear Buck rambling about some movie they watched a few nights ago. "This is God's grace, Eddie. You, alive. Buck, alive. Chris at home, and all three of my boys here for dinner. There are plenty of obstacles that could have changed this, taken one of you away. I've sat in enough hospital rooms to know that. You have too."
She sighs and looks towards him again. "I think we've circled around it enough, and I never want to push you, mijo. But your Abuela and I talked about your family, this family, the one you have made for yourself. I support you, no matter what, you understand?"
Eddie didn't even realize, but he must be crying because Pepa reaches up and wipes the tears from his cheeks. "What are you saying, Tia?" he asks softly.
"What I am saying, mi cariño, is that time is precious. God has given you this family, and there is no way that a love that pure is wrong."
