Basically 6000 years of Aziraphale trying to figure out what Crowley's deal is, and some of the heavenly conditioning that makes that difficult. Of course, he was largely correct to start off with - he's just over-thinking it a bit.
Note: Crowley's pronouns are all over the place in this. That was intentional, meant to reflect either how he/she/they are presenting at various points in history...but just a heads up, in case the first swap or two is jarring.

Damon, a half-orc child, finds himself making a warlock pact with Liera, the Goddess of Lies. This character was made for a DND campaign that never got played but took place in a setting where the continent had been taken over by BBEG who was released at the end of our last campaign, allowing him to create a totalitarian empire dependent on slave labour. Damon is one of the many unfortunate souls who has only ever known life under the Empire.
For context, this takes place several centuries after the stories of Anon, Kieran, and Nox, my other DND characters. The only character still alive from the original campaign is Trym who has been trapped in the Faerie realm since before the BBEG was released. Also, Damon is around 10 years old. Anon was 12 when he became Liera's follower and 14-15 when he died

Crawley hangs out on Earth and comes to live with the humans, feeling guilty at seeing all of the hardships they now suffer as consequences to his tempting with the apple. Eve and Adam aren't angry, though. They simply tell him to be useful, hand him their baby (and all future babies) to take care of and entertain while both parents work to attain what's needed to survive, and tell Crawley he's not allowed to harm the children. Heaven sends an angel to smite Crawley for Eden, but Adam and Eve defend him, and soon the other humans who form a small community do too, over the years. Finally the angel shows up with Crawley alone. Crawley discorporates the angel, only to realize with horror that while he was focused on that, Cain had apparently murdered his brother. Crawley's heartbroken. But the angel's discorporation has really put Heaven out, so Gabriel assigns Aziraphale (waiting all this time for his trial, now dismissed) to permanently reside on Earth to thwart Crawley, as Aziraphale dealt with the demon before without being discorporated.
