We are those who wait at the end of all existence. We are those whose outstretched palm grasps infinity. We are the unchanging conclusion. We are your reflection and your foil.
You are the infant, new from the cradle. You are they who sit upon our palm. You are the delicate assembly of experience and change. You are the unfolding entropy.
We greet you on the knife’s-edge of the Balance that you have broken. We seek that which you have taken and sundered. We reach, now, from within that palm, to correct your blind fumbling.
Summon your counsel. Await our arrival.The comms were silent. The snowing sensation had resolved within Tim’s mind but it was still there, a banked presence that he could reach for, and when he did, he heard the message again. His breathing came faster and harder.
Jason was the first to react.
“What the fuck?”***

Tony immediately felt all of the blood in his body rush to his cheeks, his ears, his eyes. He saw red. He felt red. He breathed red.

"Tony..."
"We're not planning a fucking funeral. Whose funeral? Who the fuck are we burying?"
Steve's eyes were glassed over now, too. "Bucky." He used all of his energy to choke out the name. "Sam. T'Challa. Wanda and Vision."
"Peter."
Tony snapped his head back toward the threshold, his heart leaping to his throat.
May stood there now. Natasha held her stare to the floor beside her.
"...May-"
"We can't go on like this, Tony. We can't let his memory linger in our minds while we just- we try to bring him back."
She took a deep, composing breath, her lip trembling.
"He'll be in our heads forever."

It is a manifestation of his guilt, one that is not likely to go away for sometime. The thing, the man, was named Gustave. And his absence is an unfillable void, one that Verso has no choice but to take. He made that void in the first place.
He sees Gustave on quiet lonely nights, he catches glimpses of him through dense trees, and sometimes as a dark sentinel standing far away in the distance.
But tonight the ghost has joined him next to the fire of the expedition's camp.

Summary
Graveyard mud, heavy and dark, clinging to a stained and torn suit. One shoe missing, a leg bent awkwardly and blood staining a bare foot.
Milk white skin beneath the mud, black hair hanging in muddy clumps around his ears. Blue eyes staring back at him, animal-bright and dilated in the brief moment before he flinches back from the light with a cry of pain that stabs through Jason to the soul.
His shaking hand closes around the flashlight before he can even think about it, cutting off the piercing beam and letting it spill out in shards between his fingers. For a petrifying moment as his eyes readjust, he’s sure that when he looks again, there will be nothing there.
“Tim?” he whispers.
The lean and ragged figure, tiny, god he’s so small, lowers his hands away from his face, away from his eyes wide and glittering almost silver in the moonlight.
Hands, mud-covered and torn. The red of his shredded fingernails is sickeningly dark in the broken light.
He’s vomiting before he even feels the bile making its way up his throat.

But Wei Wuxian shook his head. “Give me your worst,” he snarled, his teeth coated in blood from where he had bitten his tongue at some point. “I will come back to end you all,” he promised darkly.
“Very well,” Wen Zhuliu merely said and drowned him.
