For half a shuddering heartbeat Cam shifts and Donna thinks maybe she will get up and hug her, tell her how sorry she is, tell her how much she misses him, how much she misses her. When she doesn't, Donna tells herself it's for the best. She wasn't really in the mood to have another breakdown and she surely would in Cam's embrace. Donna's sought it for so long it would be impossible not to.
Instead of a tearful reunion, they study each other, like code they can never quite fix. No matter what they did, how hard they tried, it seemed like the bugs were neverending. Irrevocably broken. Functional, but wrong.

Part 2: After Bos’s heart attack, Cam and Joe go out the Airstream. Full of remorse, she confesses about helping Rover and tells him she loves him. This bridges the gap between that and their playfulness the next morning when Joe’s trying to come up with a snappy Comet soundbite. (S04E05)
