After getting the 'blessing' he asked for, Geralt passes out after a hunt gone wrong, with no Jaskier there to help him ... only to find himself bandaged up and in a nice bed. When the middle aged noblewoman who apparently saved his life asks for the Law of Surprise in return, Geralt doesn't think anything of it. What could a witcher have that he does not know he has? Lice, probably. Fleas, maybe.
It is not until years later that Geralt understands just what he traded away.

Jaskier is a genie that has been “freed” from his “bottle” which is bits and pieces of his lute. He isn’t truly free but enough to not actually care about being a genie. He's been traveling the world doing whatever. Upon meeting Geralt, he pretends to be a normal bard as he does with everyone but every now and then when Geralt wants something it just seems to be easier to get it. Sometimes when it’s a close call with a monster, any healing supplies are always nearby, sometimes they always have the right amount of coin, sometimes Jaskier just knows exactly what is needed for any given situation
Sometimes Jaskier and Geralt split paths and Geralt notices how his luck seems to better when his little strange bard is around.
I swear it gets so much better the further in you get

It had all started with Valdo fucking Marx, because of course it had. The idiot, for all that Jaskier found him lacking, could throw a decent party, and his Yule parties were all the rage. They’d been at a bar together with Essi, Shani, and Priss one evening. During a lull when the ladies had excused themselves to get refills, Valdo had turned to him with a sly smirk on his smarmy face.
“Julian, dear, you are coming to my party this year, right?”
Jaskier needs a date, fast. Problem is, dating is harder than it used to be. Luckily, Eskel's willing to help him out.
