Summary
"Sire, the…" the man paused and Arthur withheld a smile at the obvious distaste in his voice, "The court jester has arrived."
Arthur sat straighter at the announcement. When Merlin had first shuffled into court in that ridiculous three-pronged hat, Arthur knew he was going to try his utmost best to keep him there. Arthur adjusted his expression into something appropriately regal and gave the servant a quick wave.
"Please, send him in."
The doors slowly ground themselves open and in stepped Merlin. His three pronged hat tilted lopsided, jangling miserably atop his dark hair. His arms were held in heavy iron cuffs which attached to a chain that supposedly held his feet together, so he shuffled forward with an uneven gait, though Arthur suspected it was more theatrical than necessary. Stopping before Arthur's feet, Merlin offered the king a small, guilty smile.
The guard beside him stood awkwardly for a few seconds before clearing his throat. "The fool asked to be restrained in the shackles, sire."
