Kokichi teased. Shuichi didn’t find it very funny. He had been having a hard time getting out of bed recently and it affected his living space more than he had even noticed. Kokichi seemed to notice his expression, his smile fading slightly. Empathy was rare from someone like him.
“Its okay, I probably should try harder to clean up-“
He was cut off with a scarily tight hug from Kokichi. He could barely breathe, the extreme hold made his ribs ache. It was almost nepenthe. Kokichi hummed into Shuichi’s chest, Shuichi slowly hugged back.

He declined his offer to Hope's Peak Academy, attending a regular high-school, but still can't seem to shake the burden that came with the title of 'Ultimate Detective'. The work he does for his uncle is only part-time, and he'd only solved that one murder case 'by accident' - obviously!
Following a depressive spiral and a breach of trust with his uncle, he finds himself admitted to Hope's Peak Hospital where he meets two people who seem to know more about one another than meets the eye...
This fic does have a hopeful ending, but I implore you to double-check the tags!
