.... - "I didn’t need a glorified spandex ad to come to my aid" Wayne's tone was glowering and slightly breathless as he wiped the blood off his chin, looking over to the caped man who’d been covered in dust and rain, clark was taken aback, but remained his composure, it wasn't time to bicker with billionaires just yet.
"you're welcome" he muttered, floating up to look over the crowd, he watched as the officers surrounded Bruce Wayne, EMT's checking over his wounds as the criminals were carted away into padded cars, flashing lights of cameras clicking around the scene. but clark could only focus on the man wiping his bleeding lip, effortlessly drawing him in, among the thousands of voices in his mind, only one stood out.

"Alfred, I promise you I am fine, I- no, my leg’s fine, Grayson. Damian, stop."
Clark found himself grinning, soft enough that he didn't notice it at first, but the clicks of cameras and flashing lights woke him up from his daydream, the wind under his chin was getting colder, Gotham's air was gentle on his skin, despite the smog in the air and the scent of blood that somehow always lingered, no matter how much they scrubbed down the streets.

Looking down, Bruce found a little boy staring up at him with big blue eyes. Rain weighed down his dark hair and dripped onto the shoulders of his unbuttoned yellow rain jacket, the t-shirt underneath quickly becoming soaked. On his feet were the smallest pair of green galoshes Bruce had ever seen.
“Batman,” the boy said with wonder, clutching at the edge of his cape. “You’re really Batman.”
“…I am.”
The little boy held up his hands in the universal gesture for up. Glancing around, Bruce expected to find an adult not far behind, but he couldn’t see any parent-shaped figures nearby as actors ducked under umbrellas, camera crew reset their equipment, and PAs scrambled around the makeshift set.
“Up,” the boy said, stretching up onto his tiptoes.
Bruce picked him up.
“I don’t see them,” the boy pouted. “I thought since you’re so tall I would see them from up here.”
“Your parents?”
“I was ‘posed to stay put, but I didn’t, and there’s a lot, a lot of tall people here.”
“Mm.”
“I know you are very busy fighting the bad guys,” the boy said seriously. “But you help people too, right?”
“Yes.” Bruce’s chest tightened. “We’ll find them."
