But what if it sounded.. weird coming out of his mouth? Was there something in hidden social standards that said he couldn’t call his boyfriend the same pet name back? It would probably be best to not risk offending his Nugget like that, even if at best the idea of that sounds honestly ridiculous. And it had to be.
Right?5 times Nugget calls Max by a pet name and one time Max finds one for Nugget.

This was NOT the maxnug content I wanted to be writing, I promise I will make fluff of them as well, I just got inspired to write this beforehand.
This is an AU, so none of this I consider to be even close to canon. There are also two chapters, the first is the story I'm proud of, the second is the draft I wasn't so proud of but since they differed so much from each other I decided I'd post it as well.
This was heavily inspired by the song "Smoke and Mirrors" by LittleJayneyCakes and this animation; https://x.com/tkcxa78/status/1820289430499807704 . The title/chapter titles also come from the song "Can You Feel My Heart" by Bring Me The Horizon.
Warnings are in the beginning notes of the first chapter (since they apply to both chapters).
