Zack thought Cloud would be safe in Corel.
Then he'd thought Cloud had been left to die in the desert.
Then he finds his buddy in the Golden Saucer as their top performer. There's a too friendly robot cat, there's a weirdly angry Rhodea, there's a really overprotective Chocobo to go through to reach his buddy.
And there's Cloud - who does not remember anything.

He knows he could never return to his home, in the glaciers, but maybe there is something interesting in Midgar.

Summary
Sephiroth, deeply confused, frowns and picks up the Materia she regurgitated. It’s nothing particularly special—just a Parry—but how it got there...
Bahamut coughs politely, drawing his attention. “I cannot remain much longer. She is likely to have ingested far too much of this Planet’s blood and will need the appropriate care. Can you assist her?”
“I can take her to ShinRa,” he replies. Pauses. ShinRa official policy states that the permission of a guardian is desired but not necessary as far as the intake of human specimens is concerned. He wasn’t on the lookout for specimens, escaped or otherwise, on this mission, so there’s a slim chance she may not be taken by the Science Department after official treatment... but he knows ShinRa, and Hojo, better than that. “...You are her guardian?”
“As much as anything,” is the agreement, which isn’t much of an agreement at all, but he has greater priorities to pursue than his own curiosity.
“Very well. Do you consent to ShinRa treating this girl?”
Bahamut’s hood falls back in the breeze that has picked up, and a young boy with draconic horns and wicked fangs flashes him a grin. “I do.”

“Did you do that on purpose?” Aerith asks from behind him, his leg supports their weight as the bike slightly slants to the side.
“No.” Cloud shakes his head, tries to ignite the engine back to life, it doesn’t make a sound, not a single indication of a spark. “Shit.”
“It broke down?” Aerith asks, and then jumps off the bike to stand next to him, peeking over his shoulder.
“Guess so.” Cloud says between a sigh.
“You sure you just didn’t remember to fill the tank?”
Cloud shakes the heavy deposit, hears a splashing sound coming from the inside. “No, that’s not it.”
“What do we do now?”

“I see Midgar almost every day. I’ve never forgotten.”
“Yeah? Well, good. I’m sick and tired of your so-called ‘heroics’ turning the public’s eye away from what you’ve hidden. A snake can shed its skin, but it’s still a snake.”

Happiness is only temporary...or at least, that seems to always be the asterisk attached to every aspect of Cloud Strife's life. After a year of peace and rebuilding with Tifa at the bar, the slow yet tempting flood of contentment leaves Cloud completely vulnerable when a couple stricken with grief swears to make him and Tifa pay for the destruction of Midgar. Though he hates to go back down that dark path, Cloud begins to wonder if he truly deserves anything at all. -

Summary
“This… is the story of how I died. But don’t worry! This is actually a very fun story and the truth is it isn’t even mine; this is the story of a boy named Cloud, and it starts… with the planet. Once upon a time a single spout of lifestream burst from the planet, and from this spout the lifestream condensed into a small, magic crystal. It had the ability to heal the sick and injured. Well, centuries passed, and a hop, skip, and a boat ride away there grew a Kingdom, the Kingdom was ruled by a beloved King and Queen, and the Queen --- well she was about to have a baby, but she got sick… really sick. She was running out of time and that’s usually when people start to look for a miracle, or in this case… a magic blue crystal..”
…
“The magic of the turquoise crystal healed the Queen. A healthy baby boy, a Prince was born! With beautiful glowing eyes. I’ll give you a hint --- that’s Cloud. And for that one moment everything was perfect, but then that moment ended… A woman called Jenova broke into the castle, stole the child, and just like that --- gone! The Kingdom searched and searched but they could not find the prince, for deep within the forest in a hidden tower, Jenova raised the child as her own.”
