“Where's the new hire? I thought you were giving them a tour.” Peggy asked. Alexander could only imagine how eager she was. After all, she finally got to be someone's ‘superior.’
“He's just in the bathroom, he should be coming any second now.” Lafayette replied. He was always so nonchalant, and Alexander sometimes envied that.
Peggy sighed, a bit dramatically. “It's a man?” She grumbled. “I was so hoping that I'd get to slowly build an all female team. I’m pretty sure enough men work here.”
Lafayette peeked out from the little cubicle wall that he'd gone behind, waving Alexander over. It was a bit silly, given that Laf was taller than the divider, and Alex couldn't help but smile.

“Don’t you dare talk,” he choked out, Washington will kill me on the spot if.. If..” Panic shook his voice as his trembling hands tried to stem the bleeding. Blood soaked his chest and hands.
Alex’s blood.
“He’ll be glad,” Alex murmured, his body barely registering the pain anymore. “Finally has an excuse not to give me a command.” He leaned slightly closer, breath shallow. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“Stop talking like that.” John snapped, trying to keep his voice low, desperate. “He really will kill me…” His words faded as the blood grew darker, thicker. Soft ginger curls brushed against his skin as he repositioned the man dying in his arms as best he could.
The Redcoats had ambushed them on the ride back to camp. Alex..always sharp, always deadly, had missed his shot for the first time. He’d been knocked right off his horse right in front of John.
Now, he was bleeding out in his lover’s arms.

As their laughter died down, Alexander gazed around the bar. As he scanned the room, his eyes landed on a very attractive man standing at the bar. He was talking to the bartender, and was certain to walk away as soon as he got his drink. John seemed to follow his gaze and nudged him under the table.
“What are you looking at?” He asked.
“That guy over there.” Alexander said, nodding in the direction of the man.
The man was simply beautiful—tall with dark, curly hair. He was leaning against the bar in a casual and relaxed way, and there was just something about him that made Alexander curious. He turned to John and grinned, standing up and brushing off his clothes.
“I’m gonna go ask for his number. What’s the worst that could happen?”
