The way their bodies were pressed together in the small space of the supply room, his back to the blond boy’s chest, a big hand covering his mouth so he wouldn’t make a noise and alert people of their location while the other one was still at his waist from the time he dragged Cyrus’s body inside this dark and damp torrid place, only served to showcase how much bigger than himself the other boy has gotten in those four years apart.
He could – god- he could feel TJ’s warm laboured breaths on his neck, his skin tingling with heat as he heard those whispered words.
“you know” his voice was deeper now, grown-up, while Cyrus’s own was still pretty much the same “I never would’ve thought that the first time I got to see you, after all, that time would be like this” he chuckled and even that sounded hot.

T.J. sighed as he walked past the memorial again. He and his siblings moved to Shadyside from New York and started school after the disaster that happened last year. That year, the school had taken some of their top students on a cruise, and the boat sank. Most kids were able to get on lifeboats and almost everyone was saved overall with coast guards coming in quickly, a few of the other passengers died from the ship, but four students got on a lifeboat and it disappeared. Though never confirmed, they were declared dead seven months later, and their families still wandered around aimlessly.
“I still think it’s a bad idea,” Marty said, talking to T.J. and Amber. “We walk every day past this memorial to the four kids, and now mom wants to take us on a cruise?”
“They went on some cheap-o Carnival cruise with a subpar boat,” Amber said. “The news proved that over and over. Plus, boats sink all the time, and planes crash, but vacations are still fun.”
“And you know mom doesn’t get this sort of thing all the time,” T.J. said. “We’re lucky to get this at all.”

His mom sat him down after his piano lesson and told him that his soulmate was out there somewhere, and whatever they drew on their skin or was drawn on their skin, he would see it on his own skin. Like tattoos that would show up during the day and get washed away at the end. Every year, every class, he tried to see if someone had the same doodles on their arms or notebooks. He’s had a few close calls, but meeting Cyrus Goodman...he cursed the fact his arms were bare.
