While Harrow struggles to cope with her vulnerability being on display for everyone to see, injury-prone Gideon doesn’t take being on the flip side of that particular story very well.

“Nonagesimus, what the fuck?” The keys she meant to put by the door clatter to the floor noisily. Gideon leans down to pick them up, then slowly stands back up and takes a look at her. “Are you going to keep standing in the hallway like a total creep or are you going to come in?”Or: Harrow’s studying routine gets disrupted and she struggles to cope. For some ungodly reason, she’s decided to listen to the small, moronic part of her brain that thought it was a brilliant idea to go to Gideon for help.

Nona gave Harrow a withering expression that caused Gideon to stifle a chuckle. Without a word, it was as if she was asking, ’are you stupid?'. She held up her hands, wiggling all of her fingers. She was ten when she'd had a seizure. Ten when her mother died, leaving her alone in a nightmare she hadn't woken up from.
Harrow felt a stab of pain in her heart upon seeing that weak glare. It was far too young of a face to pretend to be tough, too innocent of a gaze to have seen that much pain. She blinked against the pressure forming in her eyes, determined not to cry.
