“What if...I was in a time loop, and I could bring you along. Would you want to be in it as well?”
Your best friend on the planet, in the solar system, in the whole entire universe, is currently all geared up and ready to go to space—somehow having gotten the launch codes from Hornfels without you noticing—and yet, they’re still on the ground, leaning on the little outcrop of dirt just outside the museum, next to you, speaking to you.
“Where in the universe would you even get yourself into such a situation?” You snort. “Don’t answer that. Of course you’d manage it, somehow.”
“Hey!” They shove you, lightly.

Summary
This is my part for the Outer Wilds Campfire Server Secret Santa, 2024, where my receipient was the brilliant @LutiasKokopelli, author of the Hollow Knight fancomic 'The Fifth Save' and the Outer WIlds fic 'Fate Knows No One'. In this fic, the protaganist's best friend, Hal, gets paired with the statue instead of them. Shenanigans ensue.
Lutias' protagonist, Firn, is an absolute gremlin, a troublesome prankster, and someone who tends to get in over their head, with a hidden soft spot for Hal as a friend, and a talent with code and meticulous diligence with note taking, plus a brilliant mind for puzzle solving, being among their better properties. For this fic I took a quite from the first chapter and...built off it.
Lutias, if you see this, you've already read it on the server, but I say again, Merry Christmas, and thank you for your fics!

Two time travelers from two different worlds awake to find themselves in a strange maze of rooms. To make it out alive and return to their respective homes, they’re going to have to work together across the species divide and solve the mysteries of where they are, who put them there, and why. You waste another 20 something loops slamming your ship into things, as hard and as violently as you can. The sensation of 50 Gs of force, your body breaking through the glass of your ship, feeds an angry animal that has grown inside you.
The universe has its natural end, and it’s not yours to stop.

Summary
Sanidine is ready to get out into space, and nothing is going to stop them from hopping into their ship and becoming the new best there ever was. They'll solve the mysteries of the Nomai, find the truth behind their missing idol, and advance Hearthian exploration more than ever before, with the help of the translator that they built with Hal and a brand new ship Slate calls their finest work yet. Their launch day is going so well, until suddenly it isn't. A chance encounter with a new artifact in the museum sends them rocketing to Giant's Deep, seeking out Gabbro right away to talk about a shared experience.
It's the first of many shared experiences the pair have, as they come to realize their situation. Faced with the reality that the only person either of them can turn to is the other, they're soon forced to learn what it really means to catch someone when they've got nowhere else to fall, and to let themselves be caught in turn. And if they can do that, then maybe, just maybe, they can save the universe... or at least save each other.

Summary
The solar system is a complex place, and every planet presents its own challenges and opportunities, so it's hardly fair for a single ship to be able to explore all of it. But with a dedicated team of aliens building a new spacecraft every time loop, then maybe there's a chance of figuring out exactly why the sun keeps blowing up.

Summary
Growing up on Timber Hearth, you’d say you’ve gotten to know the other kids in the group kid’s cabin pretty well.
Gabbro, though, is harder to read.
Gabbro is always off in their head somewhere. When they’re not off in their head, they’re off far away from the others, in the glade North of the village, or lounging in a hammock.
At age six, with too big ears and wide eyes, you decide that you’re going to make Gabbro your friend.

My attempt at #outerwildsinktober 2024. Never in my life have I managed to keep up with daily prompts like this but who knows? I've finished a multichapter fic. I can do anything.

A loose collection of thoughts I had after thinking and reading a lot of authors' takes on the finer details of the universe, and answering some questions I was left to ponder, as well as a significant fix for what I consider to be the only plot hole in the game. And perhaps a plot bunny or two that wouldn't leave me alone until put to paper.

Summary
The Hatchling did it. They've explored the solar system, reached the Eye, and completed the legacy of the Nomai. They said goodbye and hello simultaneously. They let go. So why do they wake up staring at Giant's Deep? And why is the Orbital Probe Cannon still intact? Perhaps by exploring the solar system again they can find out exactly what happened when they entered the Eye of the Universe.

“What’s so awesome about space, anyway?” Marl’s voice says from beyond your field of view.
Annoyed heat washes over you, and you sit up quickly enough to make your head spin. The effect is further worsened when you have to twist around to glare petulantly at Marl. It isn’t as threatening as it would be with blades of grass still sticking to your head. “What isn’t?”
Hal says, “I just like hearing the stories about Feldspar.”
“Exactly!” you blurt. “Don’t you wanna be like them and see it all for yourself?”
—
or, Marl comes up with a plan, the Hatchling is undeterred, and Hal realizes consequences exist sooner than the others.

(Not Canon to Learning to Catch at the End of Everything! I'm just hurting Sanidine for no real reason.)
Sanidine and Gabbro made it to the Eye together. They jumped as close to simultaneously as possible, touched the potential universe at nearly the same time.
The universe, unfortunately, doesn't care about nearly.

The loops continue on and on and on. Pyrite is rapidly beginning to lose hope. There's one last chance to stop it and save everyone they've ever known. Here at the end of the universe, they refuse to let that last spark of hope die like the last embers of a campfire. They find themselves in a place of pure potential, where seemingly anything can happen. So the universe's last fool starts trying to make the impossible, possible.

“Hatchling, can you hear me? How is your oxygen?” They asked, lifting them up a bit to check their tank. They rushed and grabbed their own tank and repair kit. “Not the best.” Responded hatchling, who immediately coughed. “Alright, okay, um…” said Riebeck, kneeling down next to Hatchling and nervously trying to remember their training. What do you do with a suit puncture, Riebeck?
