Any time those barely surviving choose to take a stand, there is always a price to pay, and in a cyclical living nightmare like this, how much can the survivors really afford to believe in?

I am fucking. Sobbing. Fuck.
I remember reading the first fic during lockdown, and finding so much fucking comfort in this idea of a giant found family, together, safe away from the horrors of the world in a keep in the mountains.
I've been fantasizing about this verse since then, especially during the flood Roland made a name for himself, and I think the one with Livi's ledgers about less monsters each year.
Because I worried, as much as you can for fictional characters lol--what political or financial leverage do Witchers have when there are no monsters? Even if 1 Witcher is worth tens of men, they are still collectively outnumbered by muggles. So, how do they survive the power plays of the normies if they keep their numbers low because of the decrease in Witcher mortality rate, as well as the idea that there is a chance that decades into the future there won't be enough monsters to justify making more Witchers or preserving the Schools.
At first I thought, what if Witchers farmed monsters, at least the ones with the most ichor? Like livestock. This way they can keep making money off of the dye, and they maintain some kind of soft power over their vassals.
But after this installment, it sounds so unimaginative now 😅
Of course the answer isn't to justify the existence of Witchers, but to change why they exist in the first place.
It's been such a damn pleasure watching these himbos make a people from a bunch of outcast tribes. And now they're poised to make a nation. Fuck man.
